Can you really afford this? Especially if you're looking to move within a year or so. Mortgage lenders are much stricter on affordability these days and credit card debt + owing to family doesn't look good.

Worked out that it is £370 each (me and mum are going thirds even though the kids are mine) and this will be gone by the time I have to apply for a mortgage.

Just means my signature will be a bit out as I won't be saving as much.

But yep, is an expense I could be doing without.

As the brother has told her they will pay it after the wedding -it isn't especially realistic to assume the CC debt will still be there 12 months from now .

As for a private loan from parent to child for a car-I doubt many people add that as an outstanding debt when applying for a mortgage (whether they should or not is an entirely different discussion and has even less to do with the OP's question then even your creditcard comment)

My brother will not be paying off my cc after the wedding, we will be selling our house after they get married.

The loan between my dad and me is private and I won't tell any lender about that.

They will also be moving though and may find that paying it back quickly isn't as much a priority as they thought it would be. Anybody taking on debt in their own name has to account for the possibility that they will be the one who has to ultimately pay it back.

The brother could always apply for a 0% credit card too and pay for it in his own name if that's the plan anyway, they aren't exactly hard to come by!

As for debt to parents, if the OP has a regular amount going out of her bank, the lender will see it when examining her statements as part of the affordability checks. As I said, they are much much stricter now than they were a few years ago.

My parents will be paying me back two thirds of the credit card amount, not my brother and I trust them enough to know they will do it.

And I don't have a regular amount coming out of my bank. I haven't paid anything back to my dad and he says I don't have to. He is a lovely man!

Are these fines legally binding? I very much doubt they equate to much.

Yes, they are legally binding. They are a penalty notice to be paid in lieu of going to court to be prosecuted under the Anti Social Behaviour Act (2003).

If you choose not to pay you face being taken to court and being fined £1000.
Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear

Almost 64,000 fines have been issued since the law changed in September 2013, a rise of about 70%, according to local authority data.

and not a penny of it put back into the schools where is really needed. Feel sorry for heads they are in a difficult position and if they say yes and the local authority audits and says it shouldn't be allowed they can still charge the parent, but wouldn't that make a great court case.

Going back to the issue of taking children out of school for the occasional special event...I took my DD out of school the first week of reception. To be fair, I had been told that there would be two weeks adaptation and most likely she wouldn't start until the second week, as it turned out, she was due on the first day! As a result, she missed the first 4 days. The teacher wasn't bothered at all, she'd met my DD before, and she knew she would have no trouble adapting. Indeed, she settled extremely well and hardly remember anything of her first week at school, yet has plenty of great memories of the small trip we took. s for her education, she got the pupil of the year in Year 6 amongst 120 pupils so don't think these 4 days missed affected her schooling much! This was before the fines.

I will be taking my kids out again in May. It will be only two days, one of each side of the week holiday. So far, neither of them had a day off and unless they fall poorly, they will have once again a perfect attendance. If they fine me, so be it, but I am certainly not going to feel one bit guilty by imposing them missing two days considering what they will gain from it.

Oh why are people such a pain? Why get married abroad? And why get married abroad and expect people to gallivant halfway around the planet to go to your wedding?! Do people not realise that people have jobs, and kids in school, and are not made of money?

Why is he getting married in Greece? Why does ANYone get married abroad when they are from THIS country?! Baffles me! Why not get married here, and have your honeymoon abroad? Like people always USED to!

As person one said, if it were me, I would not go. But if you want to, then FGS don't lie to the school. They will find out. Let them know you are going.

It is highly unlikely that they will be OK with it.

Well, technically, that's what they're doing!
