  • Suppose I've nothing to lose!

I'm not worried about annoying Payroll, as I manage that team in work, so that's something, but just want to stay with Nationwide and all my DDs etc are from there, but I suppose I could pay my salary into FT and then move it out to NW (though I realise that's very cheeky).
I've always wanted to go to the Galgorm, so might just give it a shot. Will phone the branch tomorrow, and see what they say. As I said though, I've no up-to-date ID, so hopefully my marriage cert and passport will be enough, otherwise it's a non-starter.
  • For what it's worth, I called into my local branch today to enquire, and was told similar to CaptainBlock, in that before they would even make me an appointment to open an account, I'd have to present 3 months worth of statement for the accounting I'd be switching from, so that pretty much rules me out. She said if they were happy with the statements, they would then make an appointment to open an account (assuming I met the other criteria).

In theory I could close my main Nationwide account, but I have various other accounts with NW and like being able to see them all on the one online banking screen, plus I've my debit card set up on various online sites for buying, and I don't know if I could be bothered with the hassle of changing all that....but then again, the thought of £125 is alluring.
  • I have visions of First Trust looking at the Yorkshire / Cyldesdale bank thread on here with horror.

Likewise YB / CB looking at this thread filled with horror too!

YB / CB are probably looking at the YB / CB thread with horror too!

First Trust says one incentive per account too (not per customer). Getting an account is the impossible thing!

The thing is, either bank could easily stop multiple incentives if they wanted to by inserting a simple condition: "only one incentive in relation to this offer will be paid per customer or joint relationship".

I am beginning to wonder if the branch staff are deliberately making it difficult to open accounts for most people - because they want one of their friends to win the prize draw for the weekend away at the Galgorm Resort and Spa, Ballymena.:D

It looks very nice too - the prize is apparently worth £280.

Only NI residents qualify for that prize as well.

Yes - But oddly if you want to apply for the prize draw by post you have to write to AIB's social engagement team (their parent bank) in Dublin - thus incurring overseas postal rates!:D

I think early on a few English/GB residents got accepted - and then the shutters were pulled down! So that poster may have been one of the early lucky ones.

More recently even NI applicants have been asked to go to branches and provide TWO forms of photo ID and copies of bank statements/proof that salaries were being paid into the switching account.

No harm in trying - but you might not get the sort of Irish welcome you might expect. Although no harm trying to fake an Ulster accent!:D

Check out their ID requirements - it isn't an easy £125 to bag and donor accounts won't do. The requirements are mortgage like!

"Most recent three months Bank statements from main account (if you are transferring from another Bank) and
Last three months payslips or last three years certified audited accounts (if you plan to apply for credit)"
