It is not likened to doing 75MPH on a motorway, you get fined for that and the money goes back into the system legally, the money you supply these people either go on drugs, mortgage payments, or into funding higher vehicle crime such as steal to order.
How would they steal to order?
you supply number plate number and a free search on askmid would tell you make and model! you have then given them your home address for postage! UH OH....
either way your funding someone doing something illegal.
Bilking was never an arrestable offence.
Maybe we should remove our plates in case someone sees the reg number and decides to make a plate.0 -

Its less conspicuous to clone a plate that someone has requested, than stealing a plate that would be reported as stolen to police within a set period of the owner discovering it stolen. a clone plate the owner has no suspicion its been cloned for crimes until police come knocking.
In my area, (don't know about England and Scotland) but I do know in my area, that you will be charged with theft of fuel if you drive off. my force area facebook page is covered with bulletins about "we wish to speak to the driver of this vehicle on false plates in relation to theft of fuel and other crimes (i.e stolen plate or cloned plate) at xyz station at xyz time on xyz date, the vehicle number plate does not match that of the vehicle so we are appealing to the public to try and identify the man/woman in the CCTV footage" please call 101 with ref number xyz if you have information regarding this incident".
so do they arrest for "bilking" (in slang term used round here for stealing from oil heaters tanks and petrol forecourts), yes they do.0 -

I suggest you have a read up on bilking, it's not slang it's an offence of making off without payment.
What you describe is a little more than making off.0 -

OH god either your being pedantic or i'll by you book for dummies on slang and humor because you need some.
Under the terms of slang round here if your "making off" you've "DUN A FLY BY". IF you've done it more than a few times I.E theft of fuel you're "BILKING" or "BILKING IT" or for a better full slang meaning "milking" it or milking the pumps dry as much as you can where ever you can" eventhough it has one meaning people round my way give it another!!.
You do know that slang can differ form its original description and meaning under several cultures don't you loosen up PCSO haggis, you cant take everything as literal all the time I did say it was slang round my way and "bilking or done for bilking it" to us round here is "theft of fuel" FYI.
you also mentioned it was never an arrestable offence, correct not normally an arrestable offence but it does depend on how it was reported and recorded now doesn't it!. theft of fuel or a bilking. most forecourts report to police as theft of fuel.
Now it still doesn't change the fact the plates made by organized criminals could have this type of impact on those who purchase the plates through ebay now does it.0 -

And every police force records them correctly as bilking.
I suggest you read the home office recording standrds rather than argue in ignorance.0 -
Section 3 of the theft act.
Making off without payment.
(1)Subject to subsection (3) below, a person who, knowing that payment on the spot for any goods supplied or service done is required or expected from him, dishonestly makes off without having paid as required or expected and with intent to avoid payment of the amount due shall be guilty of an offence.
(2)For purposes of this section “payment on the spot” includes payment at the time of collecting goods on which work has been done or in respect of which service has been provided.
(3)Subsection (1) above shall not apply where the supply of the goods or the doing of the service is contrary to law, or where the service done is such that payment is not legally enforceable.
(4)Any person may arrest without warrant anyone who is, or whom he, with reasonable cause, suspects to be, committing or attempting to commit an offence under this section.0 -

I said:
Would you be so wise the next time you purchase from the lowest price on fleabay when the police turn up arrest you for bilking thousands worth of fuel from many different stores because they used your cloned number plate that you supplied to them to make a replacement for you
You said:
Bilking was never an arrestable offence
implying they don't arrest for bilking.
I said:
In my area, (don't know about England and Scotland) but I do know in my area, that you will be charged with theft of fuel if you drive off
and now you prove what I already said in my original post that:
Would you be so wise the next time you purchase from the lowest price on fleabay when the police turn up arrest you for bilking thousands worth of fuel from many different stores because they used your cloned number plate that you supplied to them to make a replacement for you
sunsection 3 implies that unless it wasn't lawful tell sell or supply, that subsection 1 is not applicable, well if your legal to sell and supply fuel, then subsection 1-2-4 applies.
well done you :T:rotfl:0 -
Yes, well done.
You said the police will come knocking on your door because someone has cloned your plates.
Not exactly found committing is it?0 -

You do know what found committing means?0
