    Hi everyone,

Sorry haven't been posting as regularly as I should have been, time seems to be slipping away from me!!

Now 34lbs down, so nowhere near the target of 50lbs that I should be when we are half way through the year :( keep having bad days and thinking 'Oh one bad day won't hurt' but the one bad day turns into two or three!! Really need to keep my mind focused on the target ahead.

On the good side of things, I've managed to start wearing size 18 clothes so I have dropped two dress sizes, but I am frustrated that I haven't been as good with myself as I could have been, and could be further down the line.

Going to see Madness on saturday, so that means plenty of alcohol, more bad points for me... :(
My thought process is that as much as I do want to lose the weight, I also don't want to miss out on the good times in life, because you just never know when it's your time to go!!

I currently have a chest & throat infection, which is effecting my exercise, as I get breathless very quickly, and I have a high temperature.. but I am struggling through lol!!

Holiday in less then three weeks, praying that I'll be ok for the plane seats, and that I don't put on too much weight while I'm away for 10 days

It's amazing to see all you lovely ladies doing so well, keep up the good work!!! :T:T

On day 2 of my 2 low days this week and has been surprisingly easy. Have avoided binging by doing intense pedi work on my feet, the soles needed a real going over so it's been a good excuse to stay away from the kitchen.
Have normal day tomorrow then high days at the weekend, which I am thoroughly looking forward to. Seeing my diabetic nurse tomorrow for a weigh in anx and to check my bms, hoping that both are improved
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

I saw Madness a few years ago in Magaluf for a friend's 40th birthday - we made sure we were right at the front, great it was and a very alcohol fuelled holiday!

Well done on dropping a couple of dress sizes, and 34lbs is practically two and a half stone, so feel fabulous not frustrated!!
    Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
    And now the final frame
    Love is a losing game

Thanks CWR, think sometimes you need someone to put things like that to stop the self arrghhhh!!

I'm so excited to see Madness on Saturday, it's going to be great but all my left over points are being spent on pints on Saturday!! I know I will regret it Sunday, but oh well!!

Don't regret it, just go and have a good time and enjoy it. As Rosie said, focus on the fact that you've lost an amazing amount rather than the fact that you would've liked to have lost more.

Although it's easier said than done and I do still get annoyed with myself, I try to reason that although it may take me slightly longer to get to where I want to be I'd far rather spend 2 years on an enjoyable diet than 1 year making myself miserable.

OK folks between us: Belsy, jps, me, CWR and Izadora we have lost well over eleven stones........................The support and continuation of this thread and us all being successful is important, celebrating our success will be good fun, many thanks for the support and where are we really?

So Belsy you and I have lost the same, it is three and a half weeks until the half way point we are doing bloody well. And a night out with the nutty boys is life enhancing by itself.

CWR is an inspiration always plugging away and about to hit the mega hurdle of - 3 stones. I think we will both still be here next year to celebrate size 16.

JPS is up to get to -50lbs (welcome back) and Izadora is doing it the right way diet and exercise and back on it when she occasionally falls off the bandwagon.

I have had a bad few days but today is Day 147, 31 points back on it with bells on.

Beautiful day, the week-end ahead happy days to all.
  • This thread could be a good one for me to ask re clothes sizings on.

I measured up a top from a certain very well-known chain store today and it came to 46" around - but had a size 14 label on. I think 46" around is probably size 20 (by 1970s standards).

As I intend to get back from "size 14" (modern day) to 1970s size 14 I am trying to work out where I might find details online of how many inches around sizes 12 and 14 clothes were in the 1970s.

I haven't got any clothes that old to be able to measure for myself - only "size 14" clothes bought in the last few years (which I can see are noticeably bigger than size 14 clothes - but I don't know how much by).

Does anyone have a link they can give me to the size in inches for those sizes 12 and 14 (in the 1970s) and how many inches around "size 12" and "size 14" are nowadays. It would be helpful if they were, say, what Marks & Sparks deemed to be those sizes in the 1970s and what they deem to be those sizes nowadays.

All I know is I cant possibly still be size 14 at 10.5 stones - as I was size 14 at 8.5 stones in the 1970s and I think each dress size is about 8-10 lbs extra weight??

Interesting question, I don't have a link but this is often discussed in sewing blogs where many people work from vintage patterns. A modern day 10 is closest to a 1970s 14 in pattern sizes but it isn't absolutely the same because better/different nutrition has meant much bigger busts, waists and hips in modern sizing. A vintage size 14 is a 26" waist....today that is closer to an 8. I don't know how it works in lbs as that must depend on height and build, the measurements are the key I think.

I didn't think of vintage things. That's a good idea:T. Next time I'm near a vintage clothes shop then I had better buy a couple of items - or, alternatively, I can tell I'm the right size again when I go into modern clothes shops and am trying on size 8-10.

At the moment I need to buy modern size 16 clothes I can see (ie the recent size 14 purchases are really getting a bit on the small side:o).

I can see an explanation I will accept for myself about having a bit bigger waist (ie the last generation of women wore corsets and we don't - and corsets really aren't a very healthy idea - as internal organs shouldn't be constricted that way).

I believe The Pill increases bust size too?? - and it doesn't go back down again to its previous size when you no longer need to take it?

But its obvious to me that I'm carrying too much weight (even though no-one else seems to think so) because I "puff" slightly when walking at reasonable pace on slight inclines and I never used to - but I would do wouldn't I since I'm permanently carrying round half a large sack of potatoes or more in the shape of excess weight:cool:. Mea culpa.
