Just done meal plans and cupboard check and realised I need another £40 of stuff added to food shop. So frustrating. At least it is really required and not just impulse purchased on an incase basis.

July is looking quieter, no visitors, no farmers to feed. Expect I can have a cheap month then......in my dreams....

We have now spent £67.76 of our budget of £200 Out of potatoes and thanks to who ever it was who brought it to my notice that Morry's had the 12.5 kg for £2 which I brought today, however ours is a small shop and they said they didn't have the larger ets of onions so may go to a bigger store next week. Probably (hopefully) a NSD tomorrow.
Today I have done smoked cod fish cakes and there are 6 left over now in the freezer.
Rather pleased as at the beginning of the month I did a full months meal plan and so far have managed to stick to it except for just changing 2 days around.
    MARCH £62.38/250

Did my weekly shop today of £14.82!! That included some bits for my weekend away. I just bought, salad, fruit, milk and jacket pots. This will be the last week of my 'cheap' weeks as we are moving next Friday and I really don't have any food left in the house so will have to do a big shop next week!

Hi. My June challenge starts today, can you please put my down for £100 a week.

I have withdrawn £400, split it into 4 lots of £100, and put each £100 into an envelope. Each has to last the week.

    Shouldn't be too hard i don't think!

I got a rump steak for 50p YS from Asda. It was 265g, and I while I think that's a nice size for a once-in-a-while treat slab-o'meat, I generally go for 120g portions for everyday meals. So... this could easily stretch to 2 meals. What to do? I tried the following sing store cupboard ingredients and my OH said it was the best meal I'd done, and he lurves my food, so must be good! :D

    Mongolian Beef

    for 2 people
    265g rump steak
onions, sliced - I used 2 small cooking onions, but a small bunch of spring onions would be more authentic!
    1/2 tsp Chinese 5 Spice
2tsp ground ginger - you can use a thumb-size chunk of grated fresh ginger if you have it, nice and zingy.
    clove garlic, crushed
    1tsp brown sugar
    1tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp plain flour - or you could use cornflour.
    30ml water
    oil/Frylight to cook
added veg: mushrooms, baton carrots and sliced green peppers - as much as you like

    Method:
Cut the rump into strips and pop into a bowl with the flour, season, and stir through to ensure the steak is coated. This will help create a nice, thick sauce.

Heat frying pan with add oil/Frylight. When it's hot, add the onions, garlic and dry spices and/or fresh ginger.
Cook for a couple of minutes - the onions will be soft and the spices cooked through (NB, if using spring onions, put the sliced green part in at the end of the dish for extra heat, crunch and colour).
Add the meat, and stir fry for around 3 minutes. How do you like your steak? Judge by that!
Add in your other veg and cook through for a minute.
Add the sugar, soy and then gradually add the water until everything is combined and you get a small amount of sauce.

Serve with rice or noodles. :)

    Enjoy!

Enjoying stretching out my grocery budget this month. :A
    Keep reading books!
