February 2015 Grocery Challenge

Hi everyone!
T*sco shop delivered this morning, £42 and pleased to have kept somewhere near the £40 limit I had set myself.
It really is amazing to realise that my habits of doing the online shopping and adding what I actually needed, then browsing around for other things that might be handy or I just fancy, or are (the old chestnut!) on offer.
I think that probably two thirds of what I spent on groceries were on impulse or 'just in case' buys, now I am sticking to just what we need for that week I am spending less, it really is a matter of being aware.
So far this week, instead of £220+, so far I have spent £67!
I doubt very much if I shall spend more than perhaps another £20 - £30 to see us through the weekend, we have plenty in to feed us all, hoping to nip off to A*di tomorrow to get some more dog food, he loves that one the best, I might also pick up some of their sliced smoked cheese, really cheap, much less than T*sco.
It is looking very much like the end of the week spend will only be just over £100, and no takeaways or non essential spending. Less than half of what it was before starting this, and a third less than what I estimated I was spending, quite incorrectly!
Loving reading all the posts, very inspiring.Making time for me now. Out with old habits and ideas, and open to change......:j0 -
Technically a NSD (no. 2) today, unless you count £1 excess that I paid for a mystery shop, where I needed to buy a £4 item but DS wanted something that cost £5 so I will deduct the extra £1 from my earnings (£8 fee plus £4 reimbursement on purchase). I would have rather biught something a bit dearer than £4 but useful than a £4 trinket with no use!
Well, I have sold myself a NSD, will go and update sig now. :rotfl:Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hiya everyone and welcome to the returners, lurkers and new peoples :hello:

Hi all
Sent hubby with a list to mr t's tonight to get 12 pints of milk and 3 loaves of bread. Should last till the weekend. Grand total of £5.30.
Meals sorted for the rest of the week. Food shop being delivered on Sunday. Parents paid for a yearly delivery pass so it's not costing us anything. Need to meal plan next week and make sure I've everything in or add to delivery if not.
Hopefully a nsd tomorrow.

Shopping delivery was £49.56 and the holiday fund has been increased by the difference between that total and the £60 that was available. If we need anything else it will have to wait until next week. We have bread and milk and plenty of food so any "fancies" that aren't in the house can be done without if they can't be cobbled together from what we have in. To be fair my son isn't that interested in food so he's unlikely to want anything unusual, especially as he's full of cold. He had spag bol with garlic bread (bolognese sauce and bread both out of the freezer) tonight which was easy enough.0

Managed another nsd here this one was hard blooming work though feeling a tad low so was desperate to spend 2 today I have sat down and done a approved foods order got to the checkout and not gone through with it. Instead I made flap jack and fudge both recipes I found on here. As this challenge goes on what is amazing me is the amount of food we waste.February GC £261.97/24 NSDS 10/12

Grr and yay today! Was late finishing meetings today and hank marvin so ended up buying lunch in town and the only veggie sarnie left was v expensive! £4.10 for one meal!
On the way home however I hit the YS motherload nd don;t need to buy any bread for the rest of the month.. I've just been rearranging the freezer!
6 x 4 multigrain bagel
2 x 4 over bottom muffins
1 x seeded deli rolls
3 x quorn veg samosas (RRP £2.49!!)
3 x bags baby carrots
Rhubarb (crumble tomorrow)
for *drum roll* £1.26
So all in £5.36
I *cannot* get more bargains as the freezer has not one spare millilitre of room in it; the ice packs are out, everything!
So I think I only get to buy fruit and milk until month end.... assuming I lunch plan better! (I have lots of nut butters and tofu pate for bagel fillings!)
Off to update sig...2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
Haven't spent any more yesterday, but just popped on here to note that as I was using some Sainsbug's vegetable oil (£1.20 for 1L) to make some chapatis yesterday, I noticed the ingredients said "rapeseed oil". 100%!
... Now I have checked Sainsbugs website just and can't see 1L of "Rapeseed Oil" sold as rapeseed oil for any cheaper than £2! :rotfl:
I use olive oil instead for Chapatties. Don't need much, and its something you can use for other thing. HTHMake £5 a day in August£21.54/£155
