Am going to try to hold on for a new car.. it needs about £150 worth of work doing now though.. and unless a bargain comes up, I will try to get through another winter with it.. though I do need a dependable car - we live in the middle of nowhere and the bus only comes through once a week!
It must be really difficult having such a rubbish public transport system near you. Our local bus was cut recently but I still only have to walk about 20 minutes to the nearest bus or train stop. We used to be 5 minutes walk from everything and now we're about 30 minutes away, but it's good for me to walk!
Our car is 10 years old now and has done a lot of miles so things are starting to fail. We've spent about £300 on it this year but previously it has always been cheap to run. I'd really like to celebrate passing my test (might be a while yet...) with a nice new (to us) car but we'll have to see if we can find a bargain too.Mortgage (Start Sep 2014)- £70,295/£0 - 100%

The rubbish transport links are totally offset by the fact we live in a lovely part of the world and wouldn't move away for all the tea in China! My car is 11 years old..
I love walking and would happily walk if I could, but its 20 miles to my work and I have to get to nursery on route.. just couldn't do it without a car, so a bit of a necessity!DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

Mortgage paid again, £60 overpayment bringing it to £200 overpaid this year, not much - but it's a start.
We now own £31.53% of the house!
Part time work has commenced, I'm in two minds about it - think I will do it for the next two sessions and then see what life looks like in September when we go back to School.
Bit dreary here today and feels sooo cold, just persuaded the littlies to have a nap and I'm tucked up myself for a quite cuppa and a online catch up / reading session!DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

It made me smile thinking of the takeaway people having to count all of those coins.
I refuse to use those coinstar things but rarely go near my bank so our pennies tend to add up
Never use the coinstar machines as the fee is too high. The best place to empty change jars is super market self service checkouts, although pick a time when it's quiet if you will get embarrassed with the amount of time it takes to feed them all in. Make sure you check the return slot as they often reject coins and it takes them ages to count so you don't always know if it's rejected if you are feeding them in quickly.
If you don't have enough coins then either pay the rest off with a card, or if you want some change then put in a note. Paying for a £10 shop with £9 of ten pence pieces and then a £10 note should get you £9 change in £1/£2 coins.
If you do all your food shopping at aldi where they don't have self service machines then you can still use the coins to buy pre-paid credit/gift cards in one of the super markets that do.1 -
I have just read your diary, it is quite inspirational, especially your dept repayments.
Your MF dates are a bit like mine. We have 2 mortgage on our house so overall ours is Feb 2030 but with OPs we have managed to get the larger one on target for Aug 2026. We are on target to send all our savings to the mortgage in Feb 2023 so we are MF for DHs 60th. However I am working with 2 other dates, Aug 2022 as my work contract is up then (need to save £2496.45 for this) and July 2021 which is our 10 year wedding anniversary (need £13563.56) and that is without changing much in our lives.
I will follow your diary with interest and see if we can be MF together.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

I feel like doing this, this morning - my wages are in and I'm just waiting on a final settlement figure from the bank, but I think we can clear the debt this month.. I'd got more pennies from some expenses and it will mean zero-ing the Xmas account, car account and emergency account - but it would mean we have a fresh start with budgeting next month and then just tackle the credit cards as we go along..
I won't believe it until it happens, but OMG - I could be clear of £58,000 debt this month!!!!!
