Wellllll this'll be an update of two halves.

Money in - we had a bank holiday of clearing a lot of stuff from the house, so sold some stationary, freezer, car vacuum, violin and DH's car! that all comes to £290

We are just super super lucky that DH's parents bought him a car this week.. so unexpected..feels like a bit of a cheat at times, but they really wanted to do it and his car which was ancient was on it's last legs.. they also gave us £300 towards school uniform or the electric bill - they are super supportive.. I struggle accepting money from them though.. feel like we should be self sufficient at our ages!

We have to buy insurance for his car, but will save £12ish a month on car tax as it's done for 12 months. Total in £590

Money out.. insurance for the car as above, estimated to be £150 ish.

The electric bill - the sad story continues.. I had another frustrating call with them on Friday and yet again another lie.. the letter that followed up on Saturday was appalling trying to close the complaint.. I've emailed again saying I am not happy for the complaint to be closed. they are saying the DD has to doubled again after saying last week it could be less. I have the date earmarked to write to the ombudsman.. I've also go through a comparison site and signed up to another supplier.. I reckon I'll end up using the £300 to pay off the blinking electric.. I'm so mad with them.

I need to see what the final bill is but reckon it'll swallow up the last of the money we made this weekend.

But on top of that, DH says we need to replace my car. We have no saved funds for this at all.. been concentrating so hard on clearing debt, we haven't built savings..

So we are faced with taking a loan just as we clear the last of the one.. Goes against my principles totally - but can't see any other way.. just as I think we are going to be loan free, it's not looking likely at all...

Well I'm obviously naff at budgeting as having just received a settlement figure from the bank, it's £931 not £993 and I've just sent another additional payment of £107 and with the regular payment to come out - the balance now stands at £659..

That's £98.87% paid off.. so new target for this month is to get under £500 as I know I have at least £120 I can use with cashback and surveys due... just another £40 to find to get me under £500..

Just popping in to say hi!

I noticed your weightloss on Amys thread and it's so similar to mine I had to pop in.

Amazing work on the debt smashing :j

Also as someone just coming to the end of paying a MASSIVE electric bill I feel your pain.

I had issues with a certain french electricity company a few years ago and it caused me so much stress. I'd get an e-mail saying one thing, and then 5 minute later another e-mail saying something completely different. Surely it's all on the computer on your file so they shouldn't keep changing their minds?

I know it's hard to think that you sold all of that stuff just for the money to leave you straight away, but you have to think that if you hadn't sold it, you'd be in more trouble.

How come you need to get a new car? Could it last a little longer - at least until you are debt free?

I have no idea Amy what is going on with them! They rang me again yesterday despite me expressing I only wanted email contact with them..

Am going to try to hold on for a new car.. it needs about £150 worth of work doing now though.. and unless a bargain comes up, I will try to get through another winter with it.. though I do need a dependable car - we live in the middle of nowhere and the bus only comes through once a week!
