one might think that the SNP would wish to do the best for the scottish people
if they consider that the 'poor ' ought to have further financial support then surely they should be wiling to raise income tax and use the money appropriately to achieve these goals.

What they 'wish' and the realities of what they have at their disposal to deal with things are two very different things.

They may well be 'willing to raise income tax'.. but they would be reluctant to do so with across the board in 2016. And the new tax powers in the Scotland bill are still going through parliament. So it won't be possible for a few years yet.

I'm not quite sure how many times this needs to be pointed out to be honest.

What IS obvious, what with Scottish Labour voting not to renew Trident.. is that Scottish Labour are now realising that in order to win voters back. They'll have to start espousing the same, or even more radical policies as the SNP. They'll be 'relaxed' about independence next. ;)
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

what radical policies do the SNP actually have? (unless you call radical, the wish for the the English to borrow more money and give it to the scots)

we both know that the SNP won't raise income tax because it will lose them support for the all important new referendum and a YES vote.

    roll on May 2016

You have no idea what the SNP are going to do tax wise. No party has their manifesto's out yet.

When I say 'radical' I meant as in compared to a few months ago. Scottish Labour has gone from pro-austerity, pro trident etc... to 'welcome to socialism', anti-austerity, and a landslide vote against Trident.

Any other party you can think of in Scotland that's anti-austerity, and anti-Trident ? There's very little room on the 'left' in Scottish politics. With the SSP, Greens and RISE all vying for a spot. Scottish Labour is trying to move towards the same in the hope of painting the SNP as even more right wing than themselves.

The problem with the above that they've lost votes to the SNP by moving right over the years. In trying to go back... they're now going to lose votes to the Tories. And the rest of us don't have amnesia either.
Ruth Davidson MSP ‏@RuthDavidsonMSP 2 hrs2 hours agoWelcome to former Labour supporters who don't want their taxes raised, their country's defences weakened or their MSPs campaigning for indy.
Ian Smart ‏@ianssmart 5 hrs5 hours ago Kilsyth, Scotland So, we are debating something over which we have no control so we can adopt an unpopular policy and demonstrate how divided we are? Genius

Because raising income tax is always such a 'popular' policy and a real vote winner. It's almost as if some are really, really hoping the SNP will. I can't imagine why that would be.

By the way, how's that Tax Credit thing going for the Tories... I remember when it was announced with a huge fanfare just before the last election...... oh....... wait....

So you're against using the very transparent income tax regime and instead prefer the SNP copy the sneaky and underhand stealth taxes of New Labour and the Tories.

so by radical you mean 'borrow more'

(well why not as SNP will default on their share of the UK debts : just think how popular that will be amoungst the anyone but england and lovers of flower of scotland))

    To govern is to do!
Say what you like about the Tories, at least they put themselves out there to be criticised. Unlike the SNP they're a proper party of government.

Tax credits will undergo change. That's a certainty. Whether it's popular or not isn't the issue. As balancing the budget requires difficult decisions to be made on many fronts. Not just bleating on about austerity without having policies that will tackle the root cause of the problem. One of which is that we all think we have an entitlement to a better standard of living than we actually earn as a nation.

Why don't you read again what Ruth Davidson, the leader of the Scottish Conservative party has to say. Mabye concentrate on the part about taxes ? Because I seem to have missed somewhere the bit where she says 'and will raise income taxes'.

You also know what you're getting more or less with the SNP. The Tories didn't feel the need to divulge what they were going to do with tax credits. However, it seems the SNP are being pressed to announce what they're going to do with tax raising powers that no-one knows will be yet, nor when they'll be introduced and project from there years into the future. Get real. Your post is an excuse for an SNP bash. Nothing much to do with reality. :)
