Yes, I wondered how a link between the Steel Plant problems and insults to Scotland would be contrived. The post was quite extraordinary in that respect; one irrelevant point following another.

My use of the word "uncompetitive" is of course challenging and I knew it when I wrote it, but it goes to the heart of the Government's (any Government) dilemma, whether to support a company that cannot trade at a profit or to let it go and how best to support sustainably the people that work there. Whether the market is fair or not is of concern, but it's background and not the main issue unless one is actually in a position to do something about it.

But my main point was simply to anticipate one more in a growing collection of Whinges, and it didn't take long.

I wait for the next manufactured grudge to manifest itself.

Nope, when I get confused my missus soon tells me. And she is never wrong.
:D I think my husband feels the same way.
I see a link, you don't. It took 40 years, to oust Labour up here. I think SNP will be the 'better the devil you know party ' up here for thousands of newly converted voters for at least a decade or longer, if Independence was won.
    Mabye, mabye not. Is unknown.
However as Noddy Head seems to have bottled it, doesnt really matter. Seems I could be right when I suggested this wee matter won't be resolved till I'm in the afterlife.

Which cold winters or not, hopefully won't be for several years, thanks to my now extremely cheap to run oil boiler.
Actually, I think Nicola and Alex might be partaking in a few private celebratory drams tonight. Imo I think the Tories probably think we're nearing the end of the Union too.
The voting rights of Scottish MPs are to be restricted after the Conservative Government narrowly won a vote on its controversial plans.

MPs backed ‘English votes for English laws’ (Evel) by 312 to 270.
But opposition parties accused Tory Ministers of endangering the future of the UK with the reforms. Chris Bryant, the shadow leader of the House, warned the move was a "charter for breaking up the Union".

The SNP warned that the mood in Scotland "was darkening" over Evel.
There was also controversy after ministers suggested Scottish MPs could be barred from a future vote on Heathrow expansion.
Chris Grayling, the Leader of the House, said that the issue could be deemed England-only, despite its impact on Scotland.

Britain passes lawmaking reforms, deepening divide with Scotland

Britain on Thursday approved its biggest constitutional change in decades, giving English members of parliament a veto over legislation that only applies to England, despite fierce opposition from Scottish nationalists.
Critics say the plan, part of a wider schemeicon1.png of devolution among Britain's constituent nations, deepens the divide between England and Scotland at a time when question marks hang over the future of their 300-year-old union.

traquir ‏@traquir 2 hrs2 hours ago So taken 13 months for Scotland to not get one single #Vow'ed power. Took hours to get #EVEL
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Nicola played a 'good' (cynical, calculating etc) hand when she threatened to vote against english fox hunting - clearly an English matter, hence strenthening the EVEL proponents.

Obvioulsy Nicola will play the matter for all its worth.

So roll on May 2016 and see what happens thereafter.

Going to need careful management to maintain the 'anti English' feelings whilst not demanding a referendum too early.
    Needs to be careful.

Well, I'd replace anti-English with anti-Westminster.. but suspect the brown stuff will hit the fan round about, tax credits/Trident renewal vote time, quickly followed by the ( ever closing gap in the polls ) Eu Ref. No rush.

They'll need to do something about the Scottish Grand Committee as well. It's got a majority of English MP's on it. There won't be any Scots/Welsh/NI MP's allowed on the English one.

But yes, while most Scots are fine with the principle of EVEL. I doubt they're happy with Scots MP's ( from whatever party ) seemingly being less than equal in a UK parliament in order to achieve it. And the days of 'but you voted to stay part of the UK parliament/all MP's are UK MP's/count equally' are gone from today.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Banned from voting? That is a lie. Non English MPs can express their views in the debate and they can vote so that their opinion can be taken into account in the decision.

English MPs, however, can't vote on Scottish only matters and their views are given no airing at all.

It will be interesting to see how that pans out since the result will depend on the wording of the motions deemed English only, if there are any.

The most childish thing the SNP can do, and therefore probably what they will do, is to stamp their feet (in unison) and not vote on such matters, claiming they are being ignored or some such whinge.

Would you dispute what this MP has written in his blog about today's vote?

    I noted this:
The irony is that they are doing this in such a way as to fuel distrust and resentment amongst the people of Scotland.
He must be livid, surely the Conservatives must realise that's the job of the SNP.
If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.

It seems that the good Mr Sheppard would like to have his constitutional cake and eat it. If you want less UK then that means less influence over what happens in England. Voting against the 'privatisation' of the English NHS is a prime example of something that is none of his damn business. Ditto English Uni tuition fees.

If English spending decisions impact on the Block Grant, too bad. This is the road the SNP wants to take the Union down. Not everything the SNP does is good for Scotland and this is an obvious outcome of everything the SNP has asked for.
