  • I dislike cars when I'm cycling and cyclists when I'm driving.
Left is never right but I always am.

    Oh and thanks wr

I of course consider myself a considerate cyclist, and driver.

Some of those hills are steep and long.... stopping to let cars past is difficult as you might not get going again - especially if your feet are clipped in.

Also when overtaking bikes you should only pass if you have room to overtake a car, so 2/3 abreast shouldn't be a major issue - just use the opposite lane. I got blown off my bike at one stage, straight across the road and onto the floor in front of oncoming traffic...... very lucky to be ok.

The amount of times I had cars overtake me, then pull so far over to the left that they were then blocking me - stopping and starting after 48 miles is not so easy!

There's a rule being introduced state by state here that says that you need to leave a metre (3'3" approx) when overtaking a bicycle or motorbike.

What used to make me smile when riding in the Alps was motorists (usually driving on GB plates) busting a gut to go past me at the start of a descent only for me to fly past them as they crapped themselves going round the S bends.

We'll have to wait and see what Corbyn has to offer. But if it's nothing more than vote for me in 4 years time... because I 'might'. Am not sure. I think there are a lot hoping for a bit more in the way of something 'radical'. Like the rest of his policies. Would be a shame if it was only concerning Scotland where he wasn't offering something 'radical'. He'll come across sounding like Alistair Darling during BetterTogether otherwise. ( Lead balloon these days ).
    ...

Surely, if you are an independence purist, then nothing Corbyn can offer will be of interest except guarantee of another independence referendum?

It feels like mixed messages from the SNP. Are you saying there is an alternate solution for Scotland which doesn't involve independence? A Labour solution from Westminster?

The Reality Is That the SNP Fear a Corbyn-led Labour Party - And So They Should

I think most Scots who oppose Tory austerity will feel let down by the fact that Nicola and her SNP colleagues chose constitutional obsessing as their priority, at a time when they could have focused a genuine united front against the cuts. The reality is that they fear a Corbyn led Labour party and a party led by him as a real threat and so they should.

Why don't the SNP have a referendum every week? Sooner or later they'll get the result they want. I'd be quite happy for them to go it alone, means we'll have more cash for the NHS and education etc.

Never voted labour in my life, but I quite like some of Corbyn's policies, in particular the max salary, qe for the people instead of banks and rentionalisation. Just a shame he's a hamas loving, ira supporting moron. Maybe UKIP will take some of his ideas.

I've always struggled to understand the logic behind the conflation of these two factors, as if national sovereignty was a matter of implementing left wing policies.

QE for the people... ugh. It's not even QE, it's just monetisation, plain and simple. Works very well for Zimbabwe, Argentina and Venezuela, if your objective is to destroy wealth.

Yes, I know what you mean.

It's like a warm and fluffy nationalism.

I suppose the traditional nationalism, where you paint everyone else as your enemy, and arm yourself to the hilt, is a bit tainted nowadays.

The SNP would never talk about an oppressive force outside the Scottish border, oh something like "evil Westminster". They are much more modern and loving than that :)

Today the SNP reintroduced their claim that the "VOW" had not been kept, citing things that were not in the vow.

Cameron asked Robinson to give him a list of specific things that were missing from the Vow.

From experience on this thread, he won't get an answer; I've tried a couple of times to no avail. All he can expect is more whinge-blather and no substance.
    Union, not Disunion

I have a Right Wing and a Left Wing.
It's the only way to fly straight.

The newspaper I saw it in definitely had Page 8 written at the bottom of it. Have the Unionists delivered Page 8 along with the moon on a stick to the people of Scotland? I thought not.

Martin agrees with me, don't you. ...:money:

No, you're missing the point. SOME SNP voters are independence purists. Other's see independence as the only way and the only opportunity of 'doing things differently/social democracy or whatever you want to call it at the moment. If Corbyn offers a pathway to 'doing things differently'. There will be a lot who will sit up and listen.

The SNP have nothing to do with it. I was talking about voters ? y'know, the people who put political parties in power and all that ? It's those that need persuaded by Corbyn. Not the SNP who have always been relatively consistent with their messages.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?
