They got nothing of note anyway, but a big stick with which to be beaten

Doubt that. Even Scottish Labour MSP's are refusing the 'stick'. Realising that they're going to be beaten with it soundly too.
Mr Swinney added: "I want to make very clear again that the Scottish government will not recommend that this parliament gives consent to the bill without an agreed fiscal framework that is fair to Scotland.
"I would have no hesitation to refuse to recommend a proposal that did not provide us with the ability to use our powers properly and flexibly to support the people of Scotland, to address our own priorities and to improve our economy."
Scottish Labour's democracy spokeswoman Claire Baker said her party wanted the devolution of the work programme, which seeks to get the long-term unemployed into work.
She said the Scotland Bill needed to be stronger and did not meet her expectations.

    Then there's these..

We both know the Vow and the Smith Commission rigmarole are works of fiction. With Smith allowing the Tories to make sweeping cuts, then make political capital out of the SNP, or any other party who gains power in Holyrood for that matter.. having to raise taxes to compensate for the very cuts they vote against in Westminster. Nothing at all to do with what's best for Scotland in terms of running it's own devolved affairs with more powers to make a difference. Nothing like it.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?
  • And what is wrong with Scotland having power to raise taxes on its own to spend on things it wishes to provide, over and above what has been politically decided by the democratically elected government of the UK. And actually using them to back up all their rhetoric?

This is just more gesture politicking from SNP with a large dose of Whinerendum.

Like everyone else, the Scots want to have Government services provided and have someone else pay. It's why putting taxes on the rich and large companies is so popular as there is a delusion that you can get services without any cost to yourself that way.
  • Blimey they have been panicking in Scot Nat HQ about Corbyn haven't they.

Must... Take back... Headlines.... Some ... How.

Yes, if those recently won over central belters realise that a national party with leftist leanings is preferable to a parochial one that seems reluctant to use the powers that they already have or are getting, then it's goodbye independence.
That said, I thought Salmond towered over McDonnell on QT last night. Early days though.

Here you go string..this is just regarding Smith Commission proposals

    ........

Can we put this to bed now ? ;)

Exactly, it's just about the Smith proposals, not the Vow.

All this SNP whinging amounts to is venting their own wild self-engrandisment claims; And peddling the lie that the Vow is not met simply because its implementation does not meet their agenda.

The Scotland Bill is not yet finished with further tweaking in train and the SNP are just scared of Scotland as a whole settling into a more settled state as the enhanced devolution takes effect.

So no - it is not settled, you can go back to bed if you like but it is almost take it or leave it time. Put up or shut up time.

Politicking is what political parties do. There's nothing wrong with Scotland having the power to raise taxes. However...
The proposals to hand control of income taxes to Scotland, but not the full range of taxes like national insurance, wealth taxes, oil and gas revenues and so on, is a transparent fiscal trap.
Labour will now dare the SNP to live up to its social democratic principles and "tax the rich", knowing full well that the burden will fall on the diminishing pool of younger, middle-earning voters

Future Scottish governments will be forced to finance their policies by increases solely in income tax, which is the most politically sensitive, inflexible and above all avoidable tax in the fiscal armoury.
    http://www.heraldscotland.com/opinion/13191826.Power_over_income_tax_only_will_doom_Scotland_to_a_downward_spiral/

    Swinney's not that daft.
"We should retain the rewards of our success, as we will bear the risks."

Then there's the tax bands. That apparently can't be varied across the board. Raise it for one band, all the rest have to be raised. Still, there will be an announcement soon. Guess we'll have to wait for that.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

You may be overestimating the 'power of Corbyn'... for today anyway. It's the 1st anniversary of the referendum, this time last year we were all heading to the polling booths. Headlines about it were always a given. As was Nicola's speech.

    Groovy.

Perhaps this time the SNP can pay for the vote if they want to hold another referendum in short order. It seems only reasonable given that they want to go back on their prior agreement.

    Let's see what Martin thinks.....

    :money:

    oh yeah, he agrees.
