What intrigued me about the Indy narrative was that so much of it seemed to be centred on the here and now.

Everyone seemed to be using smoke and mirrors to suggest that independence would deliver instant prosperity.

Where was the visionary who could point to a lean, determined, country which was small enough to change direction and respond to global change. Who was looking a generation ahead?

SNP politicians don't seem any different to the rest of the mostly dross we have down here. A shame really.

You obviously got a skewed vision then, everyone I spoke to knew it would be hard and sacrifices would need to be made... No one ( apart from Brit Nats) seemed to suggest that a YES vote would lead to a land of milk and honey, the Brit Nats discussed it negatively

I spose it goes to show where u get your info from can make a difference

And you seem to forget I ain't SNP ... Silly person

And its no a sexual crush ... It's an intelligence crush silly

Although I was really surprised at how soft his eyes are ... My heart did skip a wee beat when I met him :)

    Who said anything about sexual...?

And as for your pretense as to not to be an SNP supporter...that's the most risible thing on this thread and it has some real competition.

Maybe Salmond didn't get the memo. How many times did he say independence would be hard and sacrifices would need to be made during the referendum campaign?

The SNP campaign was more about milk and honey served with iced cake than pragmatism.

You're trying to rewrite very recent history.

As I have categorically stated many times, I am not a member of the SNP, I didn't vote SNP in the GE.... I do believe the SNP are the best for Scotland at the current time but I happily can argue with them ( and often do) so no I am not a supporter ... Probably more of a pain in the backside for the SNP tbh

I don't believe a word of it. You fawn and purr over the ever utterance of the SNP.

If you think the SNP is the best thing for Scotland why vote against them?

    Risible.

I was there in Rutherglen that day, he spoke about the future after a time of hardship, how things will be hard to begin with but that through time things will get better ... and the future will be roughly as described ...

That'll be the media misconstruing what was said again no doubt

    Maybe.

Was it the bit where he said

"If we vote Yes in September then Scotland will become independent in more promising circumstances than virtually any nation in history

    or

We would be among the wealthiest nations in the OECD. Scotland would be 14th on the list, with the UK at 18th.

More seriously, if you have the full text of that speech I would be interested to hear it. I don't doubt it is a little more caveated than the headlines, but I wouldn't blame the media for taking away the points they have from the speech. Such key soundbites are always briefed by the PR officers as the core message, and it's clear the speech was designed to give an impression of prosperity, rather than an actual promise.
