Hi Jo1972 and Shazrobo, I just wanted to recommend a book to you that helped me:
    http://www.amazon.com/Living-Sober-AA-Services/dp/0916856046
Its called Living Sober, and its a common sense book about staying sober. I don't think its a particularly 'AA' book, so even if you aren't keen on the AA model, it might still be worth a link. Its a great book in the early days.

Pete have a wonderful time when you are there.. life can be good when you are sober.
Al early congratulations, as you say it doesn't necessarily get easy but it does get easier. I must admit that it has been fairly easy for me for some years now, but it still knows how to kick me where it hurts when I am not looking.

I'm 5.5 months now, loving water and lemon/lime squash, but still following this thread as you can never say never, can you?

Went out to lunch today and almost had a Kaliber, but decided that it might give me a taste for the real thing again, so had a J2O instead. Life is good. I've saved £200 already and we are looking at buying a little holiday flat in the North West where my family are - that £40 a month will cover the service charges! It's great now that everything doesn't revolve around making sure there is enough booze in the house. OH has cut down greatly too, just a glass of wine most nights, or sometimes one can of cider as well.

To be honest, I can't see me ever going back to drinking again, although as I said above you can never really say never. A positive mental attitude is 95% though - the other 5% is willpower. Keep it up everyone, it is so worth it.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Feelinggood, thanks so much for the book link, I shall order it today.

Whilst on the subject of books, I can recommend this book:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/No-Big-Deal-Recovery-Addictions/dp/0955367700/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207308168&sr=8-1

The guy that wrote it used to be a counsellor for a good friend of mine and he gave her a signed copy which I read. He is an alcoholic in recovery and the book takes you through his lowest times and right through his recovery(ies). It is AA based and although I've never been to AA I found it useful to find out in basic what each step is all about and what is required when doing the steps. I feel now if I do go to an AA meeting I will be more prepared of what to expect. The book is incredibly emotional and is a fantastic insight into an addicts mind. It not only covers alcohol addiction but also self-harming, bulemia, gambling, sex, shopping etc etc addictions.

    HTH someone :)

hi o thanks for the link for that book today, i'm going to order it now, just read the reviews on amazon, and an easy to read book sounds great to me, might even help me to stop binge eating
day 5 for me, and still full of cold, so not even a craving for a drink which is great

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
My name’s Sparrer and I’m an alcoholic. Just found this thread and was due to go to a lunchtime meeting today but the car’s under 3 inches of snow, so I thought I’d post here instead. After many false starts I’m now 3 years sober, the best 3 years of my life. I lost, as a lot do, home, family, job etc etc., but now have a lovely little semi in the country (thanks to local HA). I’ll always regret not owning my own home again but looking on the bright side I don’t have to pay out for maintenance and so forth, have lovely neighbours, two feral cats and a furball of a dog to keep me busy. I made my amends to family and TG they’re back in my life, I’ve been allowed to babysit, even take the youngest GD away for a short holiday! I’m retirement age now so shan’t work again but my ‘job’ is to do service in the Fellowship. The rewards are worth far, far more than £’s.

To the struggling alcoholic I wish you well, it works if you work it!

    Thank you for this thread
