Hi Ginger
Well done for posting. I have been where you are now. I found the help I needed in Al-Anon and now have a peaceful lifeThat's life, it's just the way it is0 -
Well friend, I believe it depends on what you drink. If its beer then you just have to build up a tolerance, if it hard stuff just mix the drinks weaker. Regardless you need to build up a tolerance if you want to be able to drink more and also drinking a glass of water every couple or so will help. And always best to drink in moderation. Most people would just tell you to stop drinking or something but if your going to then so be it but here is how to help.0

? Where did that post come from?
i tried all them things, none of which worked as i have an alergy to alcohol which when triggered by drinking any ammount of alcohol makes it impossible to control the ammount i put in my body. the mental side of the ilness i have will make me think i am controlling it and its my choice though.
Ps this is a help to stop drinking thread not on how to drink more;)If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0 -

People often think diluting drinks makes them 'weaker' but you're still getting exactly the same amount of alcohol. And for many people, even one 'weak' drink is one too many.Retired in 2015.

I have to agree. And add that not everyone who has a problem with alcohol is an alcoholic, or indeed wants to stop drinking totally.
I am an alcoholic who now chooses not to drink alcohol, but I know many people who over indulge, or turn to drink when life throws them a curve-ball, have the odd binge that leaves them feeling ill for days etc etc.... they sometimes ask me for advice and I am more than happy to spend time chatting with them and helping in any way I can. But that does not mean I have the right to label them an alcoholic and tell them their only hope is to go to AA and find a higher power/do the 12 steps etc.
We are (thankfully!!) all different, and one persons chosen path may not be right for another.
If this thread is here only to help people who want to stop drinking...maybe its title should be changed?2008 gig list... Nickelback + Staind (OMG...Staind ROCKED!!), Roger Waters, Infadels, Pendulum, The Police, K T Tunstall, Breed 77, Biffy Clyro....oh, and Motorhead0 -
I cannot disagree with anything that annap has said. That's my problem with it. I have rarely come across an alcoholic who has not had a great deal of denial. Given any possible solution that would give an alcoholic an oportunity to continue drinking then most would jump at it. I have literally lost count of the number of people I have known who are now dead because they have tried to continue drinking socially.
The fact is that not all readers of this forum are alcoholics. Also people sometimes drink to escape bad situtions like bereavement. Whilst I have every sympathy with these people I believe that, because I am an alcoholic, I can have a special bond with another alcoholic that can help both of us to stay sober. There are thousands of people with problems in this country but I concentrate my efforts with other alcoholics as I seem to be able to get through to them and most importantly of all, by doing so I have stayed sober for 43 yearsSomething Really Interesting0
