shaz one day at a time, just think where you are today and where you were before. Isn't it better? All I can say is that AA will give you back some friends who understand who have been there. Alcoholism is a damn lonely disease and does not get the empathy that other diseases get. It is a disease of shame, lonliness and often lies. When you meet others that have come through the other side and have been far worse than you it gives you hope. The fellowship is what I think most get from it. Always someone there to talk to and talk you out of the can (sounds like you have been locked in the toilet lol) That's exactly what you need Shaz someone to talk to when you feel like that and encouragement friendship and hope that you will get in AA. Sorry for preaching but I see it in the meetings and people cannot do it on their own. Hang in there Shaz it will get better but not overnight. You didnt get to be an alcholic over night and you will not find a cure overnight. Remember how long it took you to get this way well if overnight you just became sober on your own you would not be able to handle it. Take care Shaz and don't beat yourself up too much. Taffy0

It took me quite a long time to recover from depression once I stopped drinking. I really started to get better when I started working the Steps in AA. I became willing to go to whatever lengths nessercary, and it really has been worth it!
I'm writing this from my Hotel room in South Korea. The receptionist has kindly written 'no alcohol' on some paper for me, so I can make sure I eat/drink the right things! Hardly anyone speaks English here, its very weird!

Hi I'm back
I had 4 days not drinking a while ago and then caved in on day 5 and promptly lost sight of the wagon. That was a couple of months ago and now today, woken up realising that this has got to stop (again). This is the hardest thing I've ever done, I know it's possible as I stopped drinking for 4 months year before last and it was the best time ever, I loved it (after the first 30 hardest days of my life). Just need to get a few rungs of the ladder out of the way and start feeling stronger about my quit.
The Doc has asked me to go for a blood test to check my liver. He gave me the form about a month ago and told me that I didn't need to rush but do it when I get a chance, he told me not to do it for a few days as I had a viral infection which would interfere with the liver results. A month on and I still haven't been, too worried about the results.
I hope everyone's well, I see no-one has posted for a while so I hope that means you are all enjoying your sobriety.

As many will know I suffer from a condition that means I very quickly suffer from exhaustion. I found that when I was tired out (no doubt suffering low blood sugar levels) I was desparate for a sugar, alcohol or carbohydrate fix. Hence the overweight problem and borderline alcohol dependancy.
About 7 weeks ago I stopped eating refined carbs, starchy veg, sugar, high fructose corn syrup and alcohol. I thought it was going to be really difficult. Many times I've tried going a few days without a drink but there was always some excuse to start again, and once a bottle was open I found it hard not to finish it off.
What I am wondering is if there is a crossover between the signals driving food craving to those driving alcohol use?
Has anyone else found that cutting out refined carbs has made it easy to stop drinking alcohol?
Obviously I want to continue until I reach a more reasonable BMI before I have another glass of wine or piece of cake but at the moment I'm not missing either. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Hi again friends, I did wonder what everyone was up to as it had gone so quiet. The thread must have taken some finding Jo!
I'm on 19 weeks tonight, but I never say never again, because something could just catch me with my guard down one of these days. I must admit to wavering a bit at the weekend, when it was in the news about a glass of wine a day being good for preventing heart disease, but I had a banana instead and hoped for the best!
I think you'll feel better if you have that liver test Jo, because otherwise it will be hanging over you. Also, in the unlikely event of something being found, it will give you extra determination to keep to your resolve, won't it?I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Feelie is a bit wobbly at the moment. Still sober, but indulging in other risky behaviours. Need to do something about this, don't want to risk relapse.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0
