Thanks for telling us that you have had a rough time Lewt. I'm sorry it happened but I need to hear of it. Especially when I was a newbie at staying sober. I thought that people who stayed sober had sweetness and light all of the time. To my horror I discovered that this was NOT happening for me. I had to hear that others were having a difficult time and STAYED SOBER. It was obvious that sober alcoholics weren't immune to the ravages of life. They were going to be made redundant, suffer illnesses and have loved ones die etc. These were life experiences, sad, enraging, frustrating and all sorts of other emotions. What the were NOT was a reason to drink. No matter how bad these events were, drink could only make it worse. Again I learned this through the experience and sharing of other alkies.
I hope that you have a lovely time in HK. From a MSE point of view you would have been better waiting till you got there before buying the watches ;)

  • I've been absent for a while. Life has given me some challenges, most of them I've dealt with OK. I haven't picked up a drink.

Now I'm struggling. My sister is poorly. I spoke with her today - she's managing the massive changes in her life very well. She's had the tears, the fears and the relief that there is no brain tumour. She's able to still hug her babies - who're blissfully unaware of any problem and she's learning to live new ways.

So why do I feel so bad now? It's out of my hands - what will be will be etc., yet I could kill for a drink or a cigarette right now. It's not like she's dying (as much as any of us are aware anyway).

Sorry, just had to get that down and out of my head. I don't know why I feel so irritable when she's getting such good care and coping well.

Sometimes Hippy I find that when everything is out of my hands that that is when I am at my lowest. I know that I should have faith but it is very difficult. I know that you will find the strength to get through this as you are doing the right thing by sharing your problems. It is a bit like after Xmas and New Year. We've done the difficult thing and now our guard is down a bit and this insidious disease creeps in the back door and says "hello" in such an inviting way. If you don't mind I'll remember you and your sister in my prayers.

Hi everyone. Just thought I'd pop my head in, in case you thought I'd fallen off the wagon as I haven't posted recently. In fact I am still fine, reached 15 weeks yesterday, and not missing it at all.

Don't want to seem smug when some of you are struggling, but I am still thinking of you all, and hoping things are not too difficult. Keep positive, it can be done. xxx
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

That's excellent Shaz. One can is more of a slight stumble than a fall, and the best thing is that you stopped at one! :T
