  • Should be getting a phonecall next week, from a Midwife who has knowledge of mental health and substance abuse problems. Just got a few questions to ask, but I think that I'll do my best to have no pain relief, but if it gets to the point where I really (and I mean really, not just I fancy it) then I will go ahead.

Due on 20th April, so not long now!

all is well here Lewt. Coming up to 4 years ODAAT on 24th so feeling reasonably 'safe'. (I think my meaning of the word was just misunderstood last time I said it, however I took umbridge so I apologise, blame it on my being an alkie :o . I wasn't going to post here again but that's just silly, no-one except me knew I was offended :rotfl:)

Congrats on your upcoming event feelinggood, you're making me feel really broody - for grandchildren, I hasten to add! I have several but more are always acceptable :D

Hope everyone else is okay, take care n God bless

Gas and Air (entonox), Pethidine, Epidural or Meptid (meptazinol).

According to a few people, Gas & Air makes them feel drunk. Pethidine is similar to morphine so I assume a no go, and I don't know if I can have an epidural because of a pelvic problem.

I think I'll try on paracetamol only :rotfl:
hope you don't mind me butting in here but have you considered self hypnosis? Obviously you would have to check if it was ok for you because of your mental health problems but if it's possible for you I can't recommend it highly enough.

I had a horrible birth with my first, mainly because I was young and the midwives wouldn't let me do what my body was telling me it needed to and then pumped me full of pethidine which made me feel horrible. So second time round I was determined to take control myself and had some self hypnosis lessons. Second time round was easy, happy and drug free.

Anyway if you can get through some of the stuff you have been though and come out smiling labour will be a walk in the park for you ;)

Right I'll go and mind my own business now :o

An unreserved apology from me Sparrer as I think I was the one that responded to "safe". It is one of the difficulties in typing as we can't see facial expressions. I am really pleased you have forgiven me as any slight was totally unintended. I will need to check what I type with more care. Early congrats on your birthday tomorrow. If I get access I shall log on again tomorrow to wish you all the best.
Looby75 mentions hypnosis. I have used this with success although I did not try it when I last had major surgery. I had an epidural. I would have taken anything that they would have given me, however, as I am a devout coward

Thank you both brodev and lewt, but really, no-one to blame but myself - I think I need to get out more!:o

Having said which I'm taking goodies to my home group this evening and been invited to do the chair. I am honoured, honest, but also v v nervous. I don't do speaking at meetings too much as I prefer to listen (and copd doesn't let me say too much) so I've told the sec not to be surprised if it's short and sweet(?). I also go to a group in my village on Weds so they'll get similar goodies, but not the chair. Don't want fame - or is it notoriety - to go to my head...

feelinggood I'd second looby's vote for self hypnosis, I've been petrified of dentists all my life but tried sh in Nov 07 and was able to let her remove all the rotten teeth caused by my drinking/smoking, and went back next day for round 2. I still can't believe something so simple was so effective. I was fortunate that the dentist is young and very keen on helping people feel comfortable in whatever way suited them. I'm sure you'll be fine (says she with 4 children) don't believe all you read, or see in films, about the horrors of childbirth. If it was really that dramatic every woman would have an Oscar!
