Ah well that's me abandoned again. My family have all gone to their respective homes. It was nice to have them but peace and quiet does have attractions. Like Lewt, I'll be going out with my wife tonight as she likes a couple of drinks and socialising. Her mood is affected by what she drinks. Wine makes her shine and whisky makes her frisky, but I prefer it when she drinks brandySomething Really Interesting0

I hope everyone had a wonderful sober, happy christmas and new year. Im very pleased to say that i got through the holiday celebrations without drinking and enjoyed every moment. Im over the moon, for someone who thought that they wouldnt even get through thier first day (30 aug), i am now over 17 weeks sober and my life is fantastic. AA and my higher power have literally saved my life and i have an immense amount of gratitude for them. I couldnt do it on my own and it was the best move i ever made, my life now is sooo different to the crappy life i led whilst i was drinking. I look forward to getting up in the morning to see what life brings, and i also know that even if i have a bad day i need never pick up a drink again, fantastic eh? I hope you all have a happy, joyous and sober 2009, god bless xxxxxx0

Wow, what a fantastic post Star. Star by name and by nature it seems!
Congratulations on your 17 weeks! That's the hard bit, so from now on it will be second nature to you. Posts like yours make me glow inside, because it just goes to show what you can achieve with a little willpower and a positive attitude. If anyone had said two years ago that I would go through the whole of 2008 without a drop of alcohol, I frankly wouldn't have believed it possible, but I did and confidently expect to do the same in 2009.
Very well done, keep us updated when you reach your milestones!I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Hi, my name's Sparrer and I'm an alcoholic. Shamefacedly admit I posted here a couple of times last Spring but let it lapse. I'll be 4 years sober next month one day at a time, and my God willing, but still don't and never will know all the answers. Hence -
Sorry to ask for help when I haven't kept up with the forum but I'm fairly sure someone will know the answer. I've been searching for alcohol-free toiletries/cosmetics but can't find any at a reasonable price, so am wondering if anyone knows of a brand that doesn't cost a fortune, or if there's site for hm 'recipes'. All I've managed to find so far is mouth-wash but it doesn't make a very good moisturiser, or perfume! Try splashing it under your arms and you'll know what I mean  .
Thank you for listening and a belated happy New Year to everyone,
Sparrer0 -
Hi Sparrer
The Alcohol Free Shop has a lot of alcohol free products listed:
http://www.alcoholfree.co.uk/index.php?cPath=3
They are reasonably priced to buy from (and they do awesome alcohol free truffles!) but most are common brands, so when you know what to look for, you can pick them up with normal shopping.
Hope that helpsStay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
Hi Sparrer and welcome back. You are welcome to come and post or not post whenever you choose. You mention that you don't know all the answers, join the club. I don't know the answer to your question as I have never been asked before. Being a grumpy smelly old beardy bloke I tend not to use deodorant nor aftershave, although I do bath or shower every day. Even if I did use these products I would not care if they contained alcohol or not as I would not be drinking it but I would not be surprised if someone knew the answer. Perhaps essential oils would suffice. Congratulations on being off for nearly 4 years. Long may it continue ODAAT.Something Really Interesting0

Hi feelinggood and brodev, thank you for the suggestions. I found the link really useful, lots of things on there I'd never have thought of. Re not drinking toiletry products with alcohol in I fully respect your opinion brodev, it's just my preference not to use them as they can get ingested.
Thanks again and I look forward to coming back...

i use normal aftershave... weather it has alcohol in it or not i dont really know.
i am carefull with food though and wont knowingly have a pie with ale or wine in it.
i did drink some cough medicine out a bottleone that was alcohol. i knew as soon a it was down that i just drank alcohol, i tried to make myself sick but couldnt so i ate loads of bread and prayed and rang my sponser.
finding the balabce between careful and martar is a difficult one i think.
i did meet some1in rehab that drank 2 bottle of aftershave, she said shedidnt feel a affect. she was sick though. unsurprisingly. If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0
