MSE News: Virgin Media begins notifying non-cable customers of transfer

I’ve been with Virgin Media since the very early days of Virgin Net.
I received my letter Friday.
I’m a bit confused as to why Virgin Media haven’t offered a ‘slow’ fibre option to existing customers.
Also in their letter they state.
‘Virgin Media is committed to giving customers [not us] a great broadband service and will be concentrating this effort on their superfast fibre optic cable network, which unfortunately is not in your area’
This is misleading. I went straight to the Virgin Media Broadband products page. Entered my postcode and guess what! I can get Superfast fibre broadband in my area.
I dont have a line rental with VM. Will that be problem transferring to TT? Will they except broadband contracts only?
I pay £12.30/month. Will I still pay the same?
Will I still get the same same speed?
As for email addresses. I can't see the reason as to why the my existing Virgin.Net email address cannot be transfered to TT.
I remember in the past (long time ago on friends ISP) you could have a email address of your choice. This preceded your designated ISP (would be TT is this case).
Why can't they do that after all VM doesn't want it?
All my IMAP emails are stored and accessed from VM servers and go back years, a long time. Will they be transferred to my 'New' TT email address?
So many unanswered questions.

I am to be a participant involved in the broadband handover from the alleged Virgin Media to Talk Talk. Talk Talk are not talking about anythings as far as I can tell to those who are affected. Perhaps Ofcom have some consumer advice in response to the Telecoms Oligopoly who are involved in trading consumer accounts.

If what you are saying is true the potential loss of my .net account is going to cause me hell.
What do Virginmedia think we use our email for? Just emailing our mates the latest jokes or something?
The amount of data that i have on my email isn't the odd joke let me tell you VM, my life depends on it, it is as simple as that. I don't think you have taken this into account for the very few of us you are not prepared to upgrade because it may cost you a few extra quid. Virginmedia - You have to let TalkTalk run our email account if you are forcing us to move to them as our ISP. That is the only fair outcome. One for the telecoms ombudsman to have a look at.0 -
I didn't think they were transferring the line if you didn't have it with Virgin.
They also said there would be 20 mins outage in my case it was 35 hours, they also say the Emails from them stating the outage time was just relaying info from TT although sent by then. They never did bother about their customers you would they now they have packed us off elsewhere.0 -
Just had the email, no letter though.. Not a happy bunny, really worried about changing my email address, and updating every place I've shopped and forwarding every single email! Gutted0

The customers who are being transferred to TalkTalk are not on Virgin Media's cable network, as such, they make no money on it and in some cases loss-leading. Thats why this is happening. However if anyone is not happy with the transfer you have the right to object.0 -
I have been with Virgin for about 17-18 years and have had the same email address for this long.
The most annoying thing about the transfer to talk talk is that I will loose my email address.0 -
Yes, my problem with email as well. I have had mine for about 18 years. So much for looking after loyal customers.
I know someone who had a Talk21 email account that got sold. The new ISP just charged a couple of pounds a month to keep the email address. Why can't this be arranged with our virgin.net email?0 -
For those worried about your email address: you may not lose them. I moved away from Tiscali before they became TT, and also from BT a couple of years ago. Both addresses still work fine. I did lose the yahoo disposable addresses that I used to get from BT, but that was a change just before I left BT anyway.0
