Wow, you (and me) are all doing really well.
I walked behind someone today and they were hving a ciggie,,,, mmmmm, lovely. But 10 minutes later I was in a shop behind someone who had recently had a cigarette and I literally had to move away because they absolutely stank to high heavan, it was just awful. Its awful to think that I must have smelled like that on occasion (well, about 20 occasions a day)
It is wonderful not to have to have a ciggie before I get on a bus or stand outside the house for a fix or indeed get out of the hotel on holiday for a fag.

Cravings are long gone, but a few urges a day which soon pass if I think of something else.
    Keep it up...
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • on week 7 and 3 days :j
doing ok got be honest the smell of smoke makes me want to wretch
am hoping never to start again

Hi merzal and welcome to the gang :j

An app is such a good idea as Samcornfield says it can be a very powerful motivator to see all those lovely facts add up over time:D

According to mine I have been smoke free for 1 month 12 days and 17 hours :rotfl: but its the 39 minutes and 48 seconds that really count of course.
Scarily a saving of £439.55 which I am squirrelling away for something (not sure what yet but its good to see it in the savings)

If you are struggling just give us a shout I think most of us now will have experienced pretty much all the awful bits so come and chat and we can share our tips
  • Hi Folks, recently noticed this thread and thought I would come out of lurkdom and share.

It's Day 50 for me and according to the "sure-fire 50 day way to stop smoking" - I have won and conquered the dragon :j :j

Since taking early retirement I became a 25-30 a day smoker, boredom played a big part but I was finding on my pension I really couldnt afford to smoke so on NY's eve I suddenly decided enough was enough and practically chain-smoked the last 10 cigarettes I had in the packet, to the point where I really wasnt enjoying them, but was determined not to be tempted by having any cigarettes in the house. Next morning I put on a nicotine patch which I had leftover from my last attempt, probably more as a psychological crutch than a replacement as the expiry date was 2012 :rotfl:

On day 4 I forgot to put the patch on, so from that day I have been nicotine free as well as smoke-free. I also did "dry-January" so I think that helped me with the cravings, alcohol and coffee were two drinks that I associated with smoking. I still get the odd urge but have done as much as I can to change habits/patterns and avoid situations when I would normally light up.

I have put on a little bit of weight - have been trying not to replace cigs with food but my appetite has definetly increased, breakfast used to be coffee and a cig, now I wake up hungry then need to have plenty drinks/fruit throughout the day to satisfy the hunger.

I developed a bit of a cough but that only lasted 2-3 weeks and has gone now. Like the rest of you I am enjoying the mixed blessing of an improved sense of smell and have been gradually working my way through the house freshening things up and getting rid of the stale tobacco smell.

I have also noticed an improvement in my complection, it's not so dull and grey as it was. But more importantly an improved bank balance - winter bills paid, freezer and food cupboard stocked, little treats for me :D and almost two months without having to resort to using the credit card :T

Well done to everyone who has chosen not to smoke - best thing we could have done, keep it going :T

I've started today, will be hard as my OH smokes…
I have downloaded an app so hopefully that will help. Going to keep myself busy by putting stuff on ebay and sorting out the house!
Well done everyone on your quitting, makes me motivated.
I've only managed an hour so far but hoping to last the day!

Hey everyone hope all is going well and you are all still smoke free :j

Merzal and elusive let us know how its going. The first week is always the toughest keep the faith :)

Nearly 2 months for me now and wow that has flown. I would never ever claim it has been easy but every step gets that bit easier

Izadora, rockqueen woodster how you doing?
  • I gave up smoking a year ago. I feel myself disturbed for a few days in the beginning, however, i manged it well and came out the habit within a month. I started eating chocolates whenever i feel lust for smoking. Day by day my attention to it decreased and now i feel better without it. It is nothing if you make your mind. Try to replace the habit with useful one.
It was addiction and i could control over it. I shall have good health in future without any side effect of smoking.
