    Morning all
Another one here who never uses fab con, mentioned it at work and was looked by one person like I'm a really cheap heathen, she said she couldn't possibly wear or use anything that hadn't had that in the final rinse. I just smiled and said each to their own we can't all be the same.
It's a matter of personal taste but I don't miss it at all

Day 13 mins is going to be a challenge as only 1 thing so far.

I stopped using fab con 35 years ago when youngest reacted to it and have never bothered since. Towels are a mixture - the problem with Supermarket ones is they vary in quality - last hand towel which I got at sainsbugs is not very good and brings no joy. I have some of their bath towels which are really nice. I agree that nice linen is worth looking out for and need not be too expensive. I have some extra deep fitted king sized sheets from Christy's outlet and TKM which were a good buy and nothing like the price in junk mail catalogue which came (and went) yesterday.

So you didn't tell her that you could tell she used it because you can smell it on her?

I find sometimes when people stay, their detergent/fabric conditioner makes my (washed in unscented detergent and vinegar) sheets smell. And clothes washed at friends' houses while travelling can take several washes to decontaminate...

:( Oh yeah, that fab con pong and the slimy feel it gives to cloth, vile stuff. It's amazing how people have been convinced that this is an essential part of home laundry, even people who need to watch every penny.

Sometimes when buying pre-owned stuff, it is spotlessly clean but strongly scented with detergents and fab con I don't care for - am cursed with a very acute sense of smell - and it's such a relief when that lot washes out.

Righty, off to w*rk, see ya laters. I only need another 10 items for my minsgame today...........:rotfl:

Mav - Aldiss appear to have a massive sale on at the moment so if you can face it now might be the time to try to get towels....
  • Two useful tips - one (as mentioned by greenbee) is that adding vinegar to the wash is as good as fab con, and doesn't smell afterwards.

The other is that towels are really, really easy to dye so if you can't find the colour you want, or if yours are just a bit tired or don't match the bathroom any more, get yourself a packet of Dylon and set to!

I know some of my towels are 29 years old as they were wedding presents, although in fairness those ones are mostly used by guests so haven't had constant action during that time. I can't say I'm bothered about whether things match, but I know it matters to a lot of people.

i learnt a valuable lesson today. Thought I would pick up some onions and potatoes on way back from dropping dd2 at school. I was also wheeling her scooter back. Put money, keys, phone in pocket and off we set. At till I realised that I had not got a bag, I have one in my handbag but I'd left that at home! Assistant laughed at me when I said I will punish myself and not buy one so that i learn a lesson!

My mission for today apart from tidying up is to go on the hunt for the tea towels. They have vanished. We have two left. Personally I think the girls have mislaid them as it is there job to wash up and now they have an excuse!

    Bed linen:
We have 4 fitted sheets for our bed, and 5 king size duvet covers. 2 Of those covers come with matching pillow cases. We have about 16 pillow cases, including about 5 white ones.

1 fitted sheet for the pull-out divan bed.

My dds have 2 nice single duvet covers each, with matching pillow case. I have about 6 fitted sheets for single beds, including 2 'waterproof' ones.

For guests, I have 3 single duvet covers. They are not particularly nice, but they are whole and do the job.

    Towels:
We have about 20 non-matching bath towels, 4 square baby towels (with a cap in one of the corners), about 30 wash mitts, 6 beach towels.

Of all of the above (linen and towels), only a few are very nice, but I don't particularly care. They do the job, and will be replaced when they fall apart. I do mend ragged edges, and little holes. The guests get the nicest ones ;) The girls have their favourites, dh likes dark towels due to his dark skin, I prefer lighter towels. We have enough place to store all of it. All the bed linen fits in an antique blanket box, all the towels fit in one drawer.

I'm trying to remember if I actually ever bought any of it. I seem to remember buying 3 fitted sheets, the girls' duvet covers and the waterproof fitted sheets, the wash mitts, 2 bath towels, and 1 beach towel. All the rest were gifts, inherited, grabbed from a friend's charity bag, sister's cast-offs (she has a fast turn-over rate for housestuff) :j

Edited: I don't like fabric softener, but I don't use vinegar either. In my machine's manual it is expressly stated not to use it. It will corrode the aluminium parts, if I remember correctly, and so, will do more harm then good.
