I think that's really impressive! I've only been away a couple of times for long weekends since I started MK but even then I noticed how easy it was to pack.
I've been looking for a while for this blog, which dates from a few years back - I don't think MK's book had been published in the West at that point but this lady definitely used the MK approach. Sadly she doesn't seem to be blogging any more as I really enjoyed her posts - there is a lot of interesting stuff on here about decluttering, organising and generally not letting Stuff (or lack of it) stop you living life to the full, but the kitchen purge really struck a chord. Thought it might be useful to anyone else on this journey.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
RL has been getting in the way so behind with mins game.
Day 6
1 broken worktop edging
1 ood voucher
4 old lists
Day 7
2 sponges
1 old toothbrush
1 holder for electric toothbrush no longer owned
1 holiday brochure
1 key for winding metal toothpaste tubes (to squeeze out every drop!)
1 tax disc and holder
Had an avalanche in the office earlier today so can't wait to get seriously stuck into the pile. Don't think I'll be able to until next weekend though.
Will keep on with mins as it is making me think about what can go. I don't mind being behind, will just plod along at my own pace.
Tomorrow will be getting rid of a bag of books (not counting these as I'd already piled them up to go before mins) to charity and have asked OH about a tip run for a load of broken paving slabs and scrap metal which is piled up in the garden.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
:T Nice one, VJsMum, very nice.
I went hostelling for several weeks with a case that size and there was constant and lovely feedback from everyone tasked with handling luggage professionally about how wonderful it was. Funnily enough, my bag weighed 11 kg most of the time, but there was a large hardcover book in it for a chunk of the journey.
And yes, the smug satisfaction of wheeling your carry-on size trolley case around when others are struggling with humungous bags, it's unbeatable.I have utterly failed at minsgame today as have been busy about other things and honestly can't think of anything I hiff out. I did take two things previously listed to my mate's this aft, and return a seedcase to the tree I lifted it from under a fortnight ago (so I could look it up in my tree ID book, natch) but, apart from putting out the recyclables, I haven't got rid of anything.
I might have a go again tomorrow after w*rk. Keep the faith, kondo-ites.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

It is starting to rub off on my wonderful hubby, he folded all his T-shirts the KM way (and discovered that they fit more neatly in the drawer, and take up less space!)Must use my stash up!0

Well I made a good start on the room of doom. Pulled everything out from under and behind the desk. Sorted all ex-stock of stationery and pretty notebooks etc and boxed up neatly for CS next week. Have been trying to get this done for nearly 2 months but have had so much else (RL) to deal with.
Found some stuff for rellie to sell in her shop (wedding planners, guest books) so they are ready to take to her.
sorted out which of the many 'useful' empty boxes I was keeping for compiling hampers and other gift for xmas I am actually likely to useand put the rest for recycling.
sorted spare cleaning supplies that have no where else to live and they are now neatly stowed out of the way.
Still got to do surfaces - there are some 'useful' pots and pretty things for gifts, a clutter of komono and some already-allocated presents that are not properly stored and are making me anxious by looking messy!
Feelings alternated between, 'OMG this is making such a difference':T to 'why can't i get rid of or re-site more of this darned stuff?
i think i have to hold onto the fact that it's been a good start, and just like writing something, sometimes the 'starting' is the hardest bit.
Have another busy week ahead so realistically it'll be next Saturday before i can tackle phase 2. It gives me something to look forward to though:rotfl:
think I'll leave Mins. TBH if i counted all the items in the CS bags and boxes I am pretty sure I'd have hit the full month's target (even if some of those are bookmarks and pens!!).
Have a good Monday everyone!

Out - two toddlers, all the clutter they brought with them and a pumpkin. Plus half a bottle of wine to recover...
To be fair, they did remove all the thistles from my garden and pick up all the windfall apples, so they did come in useful.
VJs mum - very envious of the packing. I find it's my work shoes, gym kit and suits that cause the problem, so as I'm taking hold baggage I minimise the hand luggage - which at least means when I'm at the back of the plane I have everything I need under the seat in front.
I must do my hand washing and remember to collect my dry cleaning as I have to pack this week. In fact I think I might have to pack for two trips at the same time as i'm not sure there is time for dry cleaning between the two...0 -
Good evening : D
Operation loft clearance continues...
I have 3 more bags of clothes & linen to go to the CS. Annoyingly I have discovered several single duvet covers in a bag from the loft - the pillowcases went to the CS a few months ago as I couldn't find the duvet coversI can honestly say that I wouldn't have put them in the loft! I think DH has good intentions when he sorts stuff out, but actually makes it more complicated!!
I still have several boxes and bags of stuff to sort out in our bedroom.
We found my wedding dress (been married 18 years last month). DD1 was visiting this weekend - she tried it on! She said that she would wear it, but alter the sleeves - she is not even engaged yet! I am going to get it cleaned, and stored properly, so she can decide if & when she needs it
DD1 also sorted through her memory box - she has kept a few special cards & momentos, and her christening gown (hand made by my late step mum), and has binned the rest. She has taken what she wants back home with herYay!
I have spent quite a bit of time today sorting magazines. I have about 4 years worth of Nursery World magazines (delivered fortnightly!). They do have useful articles, so I have kept a few pages (a pile about an inch high) & binned the rest (well, 2012-2014). I still need to sort out 2015 but I have cancelled the subscription so soon I will no longer be adding to the pile. I had got it when I was studying, but I have finished now
Tomorrow I need to go to the CS & the dry cleaners, and that will clear some more space
Well done everyone on the mins game!0
