I know that - without MK - we'd have had a lot more stuff enter our house after m-I-law died. OH wanted to bring something back which he'd bought his gran when he was little (so almost 40 years ago) and then his mum had when his gran died. He then admitted after a few days that he didn't actually like it - when I pointed this out he agreed that it was sentiment. It went to the CSHe did bring back 2 CDs which are by a Canadian guy who his mum was friends with for 40 years (and I think had a fling with back in the 70s) He can't stand the music at all - so also agreed when I questioned why he was keeping something which he didn't like to get rid :T We have kept a few CDs (about 5 or 6), a couple of books and maybe 4 ornaments (grr - I'm not an ornament/ trinket kind of person) - and a HUGE box of photos to go through at some point (am hoping a lot of these will go - many which she took are blurry and/ or have fingers across them and a lot of the ones of our children we gave, so we already have copies)
Without MK we'd probably have boxes of stuff 'just in case' and 'just because' in our loft. Instead, the charity shop have had most of it (which is where a lot of it came from originally!:D)

Morning Ladies.
I have been reading, just not posting.
Didn't think I'd done much Kondoing this week but every little helps.
4 large dustbin sacks to CS. One containing half of our DVD collection. I had hoped to get rid of more but I left out the children's DVDs for my teenage sons to go through thinking they'd say "we don't want any, we are too old", how wrong was I?! They squirrelled away about half. I'm sure there will be another DVD cull after Christmas.
Did a short 30 min burst on paperwork. Hating this category.
Also did my kitchen food cupboards and some out of date packets have been thrown.
Went to the dentist on Tuesday and popped into a different CS and there was a lovely Per Una skirt in "my" colour and size for £5 so I was very happy. I nearly didn't go into this CS because in their window they were selling a dresser for... £850  Good luck with that!
Did have my first KM fail on Friday. My mobile 'phone packed up when I was out. When I got home I thought I'd put my sim into my old 'phone which, for the past 2 years, had resided in the kitchen "junk" drawer. (You know where I'm going with this, don't you...?). Anyway I go to said "no longer junk, now KM drawer" and obviously it is all neatly organised with useful items in. I've no idea where the old 'phone is - most likely in a box of misc things still to sort! In my search through misc boxes I managed to locate an old "brick" which is now in temporary use. First time I've cursed KM! :rotfl:
Have a good day xxAgeing is a privilege not everyone gets.

Like greent, I am so glad I was on the MK journey when my mum died in July and I have had to empty her house.
The number of items that have come back to my house is very small.
The charity shop have been very grateful.
I have not felt guilty about getting rid of things.
At one point my cousin was there and when I said I had taken everything I wanted, she said "surely you are taking that vase, it was your mums favourite"
Yes it was mums favourite, and I always kept it topped up with flowers for her but it doesnt spark joy for me, so why would I want it.
She really could not understand that I could let it go, so she ended up taking it along with other things that she thought could not possibly go to a CS because mum had loved them.
I went through everything, remembered all the memories and said thank you and goodbye to almost a whole house of stuff.
The problem is I now need to get back to my own house, where the paperwork section is driving me mad0 -

Greetings from Hong Kong - where it is raining
but warm enough to sit outside to eat :T (under a 'brella, obvs
)
i have just unpacked - it took, oooh, 2 minutes I'd say
Thought you might be interested to see my case
There's beige trousers, white jeans, stone 3/4 trousers, green linen trousers, denim shorts, 1 navy dress, 3 white shirts, 3 orangey / rusty shirts, one black and white shirt, 2 vests / camisoles, 1 small black cardi, 1 pair jamas, 1 pair sandals, 2 scarves - I have drawn a veil over the "smalls" but there are 2 bras and 6 or 7 pants, 4 socks. I was wearing 7/8 chinos, another white patterned shirt and a lemon cardi with navy converse. Not including the smalls it's about 20 items for 2 weeks. Even without laundry, I reckon i could make it do the whole two weeks - though I will get some laundered (obviously the smalls will have to be). Everything comes back from the hotel laundry before 5 o'clock the same day - so that's why i only need 1 pair pyjamas. Oh there's a swimsuit too, and toiletries / make up, and tea bags, and 2 packs of nuts :rotfl:
All that has gone into a cabin sized bag......
You would not believe the amount of luggage other people had. I was in business class so you are allowed even more than steerage, and lots of folks had 2 cabin bags. Mine weighed 11 kgs.
It has all fitted into 3 small drawers - lifted from case to drawer.
Sorry if i sound smug - it's cos I am :rotfl:
I finally kondoed all those bits of foreign money I found round the house - there was an envelope on the plane so i shoved it all in there. it goes to children's charities around the world.
Also I was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of stuff available at airports  Even here, in Hong Kong, folks got off the plane and headed towards duty free before they had got to immigration...
I just don't get it....I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Glad you got there ok and all is well, have a great time VJsmum.
Done a bit of kondoing in a spare room so tomorrow's list is sorted, DD3 is here now going through some of her old stuff so more is leaving and some will be binned.SPC~12 ot 124
