Oh iQueen, how frustrating. Hope the appointment on paper is quicker than what the phone lady said. I get the feeling they sometimes don't want to promise things so they over-estimate to be on the safe side.

I was warned by a clinician, last week that some waiting-lists at the other hospital are 2 years, which is why I rang to inquire. I was surprised that the member of staff (at the other hospital) 'went into' it, on his computer, and actually told me the length of time. (Perhaps he was hoping to blow the whistle?)

After reading the audit reports, before inquiring, I don't think he was over-estimating and playing me - the audits are much, much worse for some departments!

It's not getting me down - I'm quite cynical, and don't worry about things I can't change, these days. Low expectations = fewer disappointments! :rotfl:

Sidenote. Not that the NHS can do anything for this lady, but did you see this story? And here I have been grumbling for the past few days that I have a cold and cannot go to the gym.

Thank you for the link, uk_american. It's a good reminder, to appreciate the beauty and wonder in our lives, instead of being concerned about Man-made carp and !!!!-ups. My philosophy exactly.

I received a letter from 2nd hospital saying they were 'going to' arrange an appointment for me. Rang them and asked about the waiting list for this... 51 weeks for urgent appointments!

The member of staff commented "I suppose it's much longer for non-urgent appointments."

YG?? BCUHB? Get hold of the surgeons secretary and rant. Then complain to the health board..............you may get somewhere and if not it might make you feel better!! I have had a couple of ops at YG and have found the secretaries very accommodating;)

    Cardiff.

Having read through the latest audits, the situation is even worse for other people - missing targets all over the place.

I'm not up for ranting these days - since recovering my peaceful happiness! I won't put that at risk for anything. :D

In any case, they would probably just move me to the top of the list, to shut me up. I don't want to take the place of someone with more serious needs.

Strikes me NHS (SW) has collapsed. :(

    Thanks for the link.

The comment, about surfaces cluttered with 'homeless' items, resonates with me! :(

  • Yay!! I've just decided that two over-bed tables which have been hanging around for ages waiting for me give them a thorough clean can take a one-way trip to the tip! :T

I've been trying not to be wasteful, but I really hate them, they're ugly and have to be moved from place to place to get to anything. I never use them (they belonged to Aged Relatives no longer with us), and having them stops me getting something better (if I wanted to, which I don't).

"But they're so useful" says the little voice in my head. "Even if you don't want them as they are, the bits Might Come In Handy!"

Not any more! They are in the boot of the car waiting for their last journey, and I'd put the Little Voice in there too if I could :rotfl:.

    Happy Kondoing, Folks!

Today I have sorted and put away all the odds that came upstairs with the washing, took some up to attic bedroom, found the bags for our holiday and started to collect what we need. I've tidied and cleaned most of the kitchen and cleaned and scubbed the bathroom and shower. Then I mended DH's trousers yet again (he fell into a hedge and the tears just keep breaking out of my repair) and tried to remove stains from my ironing board cover which was put away damp. Wash load just finished ready for hanging out tomorrow, evening meal eaten, and I'm now sitting reading some found magazines I'm throwing out. I've recently bought a magazine from T'scos, and the contents of the ones I'm ditching are so similar to the new one. The ones I found are from 1998/1999  and I can't think how they missed the cull when I threw out the 2006 ones last year. I really must get started in that attic bedroom soon. I might have a shower and early bed soon. I'm tired for some reason:D

I shall resist the temptation to have my NHS rant, other than to say that two close friends reported several times to gp classic symptoms of bowel cancer (both in susceptible age group) but were turned away - one was admitted as an emergency due to bowel obstruction a few months later but was then sent home even then. 10 days later he was re-admitted in agony, emergency op, oh, look, it's cancer. Now, thankfully, a year later, he seems to be clear of it. The second one finally went private to get the tests done and got the expected diagnosis, had the op, now its spread to liver even so, and he's got 3- 6 months. Now i know science is not perfect but they both had textbook sympoms but did not even get referred for tests.

I do feel so sorry for hardworking staff who are put under so much pressure by lack of resources, and being on the front line they get the flack too.

Fingers crossed iQueen, that the wait is short from now on! At least you know it is very treatable and you caught it early.

Kondo'd a lovely lunch out today. It was a substitute for a planned day out for my birthday (older but not much wiser!) but DH not feeling on top form so we scaled it down.
I reckon I have some credit in the birthday bank for another day! :D:D

i was lucky to get a lovely new floor lamp that is bringing me joy right now :T
The old one, very unjoyful, has been wrestled out of the door despite DH protests that there's nothing wrong with it  It has gone to our local furniture re-cycling charity that provides furniture for those with urgent need (not sure you could really need a floor lamp in an emergency but if someone wants it I'm happy :rotfl: :rotfl:)

A week of ups and downs for many but it's good to 'chat' on here. Thanks everyone.

I forgot to say... my 5 yo niece drew me a birthday cake. She carefully wrote her name on the pic, and the description 'cake and canbles' . Sooo cute :)

It was the only low calorie cake I saw today!! Canbles or not!
