Min's game Day #30 FINAL DAY
1 vegetable basket for a BBQ - never used
2 x cast iron frying pans from under the cooker. Minging and not been used in years. These went to the tip yesterday - the area under the cooker is now virtually empty so, after cleaning it, I am going to store our BBQ stuff there which is currently in a rather annoying place in a cupboard :T
1 very out of date tube of verruca gel. Came to l ought after going through a crockery cupboard - !!!!!!?
11 answer booklets from the maths tuition DS used to do. I have been saving these as its not easy to get them back to the tutor. It is only Wednesdays that it is possible
1 x DS tatty old shoes that had been put back in the cupboard - is that one or two?
1 Polly pocket toy from another letter rack
2 pencils from same rack
1 library card from Kent libraries. I don't live in Kent (dad does, i took out membership when i went down to look after mum for a while before she died. This was 6 years ago)
1 membership card for the Barbican. Expired
1 further ticket for the Paris metro
1 random box that held a lot of the above carp. The bits I've kept are now in the letter rack I am keeping (a much nicer one than the Kondoed one yesterday). I think the box had been a gift box of toiletries or some such and was "too nice to throw".
1 ticket from Spurs v Aston Villa last April - this was just on the desk so how has it survived previous culls?
1 random plastic pot
1 very very old bottle of sesame oil - bought years ago and i didn't like it.
1 sign that says "welcome to the funny farm" ( that'd be right)
1 rest of cd cleaning kit cos I have lost the cd you need
1 x shirt that isn't in my colours
1 x cardi that was a mistake. I bought a navy identical one that i liked and cos it was "buy one get one half price" I bought one I didn't like much - go figure.
The last two were kind of "grand gestures" - the shirt is even part of the "Project 333" selection, but they are "summer colours" of light blue and light green, I am definitely an autumn.
So there we have it - one month, 30 days, 465 items (and the rest) - what have i learned?
- that we keep too much "random carp" in our house, real pure junk
- that even if you think you have done an area, you will still find things to get rid of
- less really is more
- that at the beginning i thought I would never find enough stuff, but the challenge made me rethink a lot of things (brandy glasses spring to mind. They have probably been used about twice in the 24 years we have had them, but i hadn't thought to let them go)
- that my cupboards aren't empty
- but that they are breathing easier.
- I honestly can't remember a lot of what I have discarded
- So far only two mistakes have been identified - the heater handle, which i found before i took it to the tip and the CD cleaning kit, easily replaceable.
And, I am sure, a whole bunch of other stuff. Would I do it again? Definitely and i might - but not next month as i am off to Hong Kong and Singapore for work in 10 days until the end of the month.
Sorry if I have bored you, it has been good discipline for me to list stuff here - it's kept me at it.
Doesn't mean i am stopping Kondoing though - i think the biggest lesson is that this is unlikely to ever be "done".
Ooh ETA- the Minimalists have just "liked" a post I put on their Facebook, does that mean I is famousI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Morning all
Hope everyone is well
VJsmum, thank you for posting your mins game list they have all had such random things in it's always given me a smile reading them,
Threw away two containers full of cereals no one eats out for the birds. They seemed very happy with them.
DD collected another two bags of stuff she's posting that have sold and I have a couple of people calling to collect larger items over the weekend so the stuff is going.SPC~12 ot 124

:T Wow, VJsMum, that's celebrity. I've really enjoyed your minsgame listing and have been fascinated at the number of cables.......:rotfl:
I've been madly busy lately and haven't done much of the KM nature. I did use up a biro and ditch a pair of religious undercrackers. Plus am on the last short story in a collection, the book is to go to kid bruv (he asked) and then once he's read it, back to a chazzer.
I have also acquired three items of clothing as cast-offs from a pal. They are very superior items of clothing and have made me happy. Two have been worn already (got them this Monday evening) to public acclaim and private joyfulness. The third can't come into play until the weather is a bit cooler and I'm not 100% sure about it, but friend and I have agreed I can have it on trial, if it turns out not to be quite right for me, it will go back to her and be re-made into something else.:T
If the weather holds, the cunning plan is to rush home from work, change into scruffs and hurtle off to the allotment. Today is the first day of Bonfire Season, I have been carefully drying things out and keeping burnables since last autumn, and am itching to get at it.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Morning!
Lovely start to the day, today. Received a message from someone on Ravelry, asking for 2 balls of wool from my stash! :j
Couldn't remember the yarn, but went looking - very difficult, as I haven't kondoed that yet, and it is scattered through the house!
The hall is full of packages and bags, now. So today is Yarn-Kondo (in part, at least) if I ever want to use the front door again!
I found the yarn - under my nose, in the living room. And some more that will be great for my expected GD1. Small things bring joy!
Very well done, VJsmum! I'm definitely going to do mins - in fact, I'll start today! I shall be finding plenty of balls of yarn to go, with the Yarn-Kondo, and will save them, in a bag, stored in plain sight, for the later days in the month!
Also, congratulations on your international fame! You are famous on here anyway!
iTwin, your take on mugs made me laugh, and reminded me of some that I have - but not for long now! Especially, a round stoneware 'chocolate' mug that I have never used.
That led me to visualize the cupboard where they are kept, and all the carp in it that hasn't been used for years, or never! I'll do mugs later and other cupboard komono, after I have cleared the hall of yarn.
mrs-moneypenny, thanks for the heads-up on cereals! :)Yesterday, I had to move a box of Re@dybrek (fancied it when 'poorly' 2 years ago!) to reach something. I checked the date - a year OOD, AND I PUT IT BACK! What was I thinking? Obviously, NOT thinking.I've just put the contents in the compost bin and the box in recycling. So thanks for that. ( My first day of Mins - done!)
Right, need to Yarn-Kondo the hall, right now, because I have small parcel of haberdashery (for baby dresses) arriving today, and I may need to open the front door! :rotfl:
Enjoy your day, everyone! :dance:Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

iQueen, can I join you on the Mins? I need to get back onto the paperwork which has been set to one side for a couple of months so will use the Mins exercise purely for getting rid of paper. I have managed to Kondo my mortgage recently which necessitated more paper coming in (in the form of deeds etc).
Have taken the last few bottles off the wine rack including a bottle of vintage champagne which has been kept for "best" for about 12 years. Will find a time to get together with friends soon to celebrate losing the mortgage and drink it then if it hasn't turned to vinegar.
Very pleased with books - been reading and getting rid. Not so pleased with clothes as bought some more even though I have more than enough and don't have enough storage space for them all. Am wearing a greater number of them on a regular basis having found many items which I had forgotten about. The new way of folding things means that so much more is in view so has a greater chance of being worn. Need to unsubscribe from the emails offering sale items so am not tempted.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
Congratulations on Kondoing the mortgage, it should definitely be celebrated!
IQueen, your comment about the Ready-Brek made me smile, we all lose sight of the goal occasionally ... which is why I've been moving a pile of decorating bits and pieces from place to place in my kitchen, when I know it either needs to be binned or put in the (recently Kondoed) Decorating Box. Don't know why that simple act is proving so hard today!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
I'll join you on a mins list as well if that's ok.
Day1 big bunch of dried teasel heads, given to local florist to finish drying and spray up ready for Christmas.
Congrats on kondoing the mortgage ocean spirit, it's a wonderful feeling.
Better go and get ready for work then I've got an afternoon at the hospital with mil so taking a book to read as later appts tent to run much later than advised time.SPC~12 ot 124

maman, I would have saved the bargello, too! I have done some nice Ehrmann tapestry cushion covers and they bring me joy. I like Aran ones too, but knitted ones tend to stretch, unless they are 100% wool, so they might have to wait until I have spun some! :rotfl:... and I'm now sitting reading some found magazines I'm throwing out. I've recently bought a magazine from T'scos, and the contents of the ones I'm ditching are so similar to the new one. The ones I found are from 1998/1999  and I can't think how they missed the cull when I threw out the 2006 ones last year.
Magazines should be my next job. I have this habit of storing them up because there's maybe a single recipe or product details in there that I want to save. Perhaps I need to set aside a bit of time regularly to go through them. Seems a bit decadent:o.
The two next in line jobs are: a drawer full of amazing komono that (mainly) DH has accumulated in our study. It's mostly small stationery items like pens, pencils, scissors, calculators, Blutack etc. It's a shallow under table drawer so may be too shallow for mushroom punnets:mad:. The other is my sideboard that has 'best' crockery but I'm sure there's more in it that could be on it's way.0
