What a brilliant way to start the morning! Made me remember DS1 who was given one of those Chinese things that are supposed to flower when you put them in water - after we'd done it he said 'is that it?' Totally underwhelmed
Bright sunny day here - maybe a trip to the tip and definitely a trip to the dentist. Abcess gone but tooth still sensitive so probably root canal treatment
Have a good day all xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I'm doing well with the decluttering.. Having had my gallbladder out last week so I though progress would be slow but to be honest I pleased with what's been accomplished. Dh has been a trooper too... Coming home from work and doing all the lifting

The train and the flower chat remind me there 'may' be a snow scene you add water to in my Christmas stash. Unless it's died in storage it will be used this year. Now I've seen the train I'm not expecting a huge excitement. Kinda like when we were povs when the kids were young and DH and me took a box of matches out into the back garden lit them and threw them up in the air making whooshing and banging noises. But ironically the girls still remember that as being one of the best (in their opinion) bonnie nights of their childhood. They actually told their younger brothers "it was one of those moments you had to be there to believe it as it could never be repeated" LOL I'm glad my girls were so easily pleasedSPC~12 ot 124

Old film cameras: my local art and photography students always want them for their projects. Some even want ancient film as it gives interesting effects when developed. Worth putting an advert in the local college.
Antique Christening robes. Try an auction, *bay, craftsy and etsy. Americans in particular seem to like old robes for their china dolls. Almost anything old sells well in the US, also Australia and NZ.
Half-used bottles of hair conditioner. Simply re-use as fabric conditioner with the laundry ( a generous glug ). Might as well make use of it rather than pouring down the drain. Shampoo works well as delicates hand-wash. I often do this when I'm travelling and only have a sink in the hotel to rinse out clothes. I will not pay hotel laundry prices!I liked the idea of re-gifting MIL's own cardie.
Wish I could do the same with my own shopaholic / hoarding Mum, but she has a phenomenal memory for everything she's bought, even if it is in a box at the top of the cupboard in the spare room. What is it about women of a certain age and the ruddy D*mart catalogue
SAD is horrible. I've used a big lightbox and a dawn/dusk simulation alarm clock for years ( both from Lumie, but lots more on the market now ). I've found the dawn simulation by far the best way to wake up in winter, thoroughly recommend. I have just started Vitamin D pills, so will see how those work.0 -

Re Matalan, it has been mentioned on the Christmas thread that the stock will be arriving over the weekend and put out in the shops sometime next week. Someone asked in their local store. HTH
Tomorrow I will be busy all day so going to try and do what I can today, better make a start I suppose.
Have a joyful day all
That was me too!
VJsmum: that train is hilarious! :rotfl: The sideboard is absolutely beautiful, I love furniture that's white with a wooden top.0 -
Beautiful job on the sideboard VJsmum! You're tempting me to do the same to mine. They're the Next Hartford range so good and sturdy pieces, but the darkness of them bugs me sometimes.
I was a sad Kondoer yesterday because my bin went out only half full. Run out of things to get rid of, the horror! :rotfl:0 -
Morning!
Loads of brilliant posts this morning - well done everyone!
Love the trains, VJsmum! Thanks for posting the pics. (I hope you've mentioned how late they were to DH!)Hmm, must checkout dinosaurs for my little GS.
The sideboard is beautiful!I'm planning to paint my 1940/50s one - it's very plain and it will look good white, I think. Matt emulsion has worked very well for me on furniture, in the past.
Over the years, uk-american, I have often thought about a S.A.D lamp, but after 8 years in the doldrums, I think I just need a well-lit and spacious home! I just may turn The Room of Doom into a cosy, lamp-lit nook, but I've yet to be convinced that I'd like it!
I heard last night that my SIL (50) has been diagnosed with lung cancer. In the dark for the time-being, so no point in trying to second-guess anything. He gave up smoking over 20 years ago.
Just goes to show that having everything and anything that money can buy, is no safeguard from major crises in life. I feel quite lucky to have had such crises scattered throughout my life - they certainly build resilience. Hopefully, DD1 and SIL will recognise that they can rely on my strenghth, to help them through.
So, today I am distracting myself with intense kondoing - especially as tomorrow is recycling and household waste collection!
Still maintaining my personal happiness (with the help of the odd slice of fruit cake!)

My children (31-47) are just the same, and never fail to surprise me with the small, simple pleasures they dredge up. Cheese and tomato sandwiches for every (apparently!) picnic in the local park, egg and bacon tea, cooked on a bricks and oven grid BBQ in the garden, being snuggled in the huge Shabitat bath sheet (still have it, and all five want to inherit it!) from the bathroom to the LR with a roaring coal fire, etc. Obviously, experiences last longer than possessions - unless it's original Shabitat!Needs, NOT wants!

Back already... firstly, hugs to iQueen - and anyone else who needs one!
I popped into Mr S for some bits and spotted a joyful dress. I grabbed it even though it was in the new in bit, because I've found the good ones go fast there and they don't seem to restock their clothes once sold.
Tried it on and it fits perfectly. And quality wise, I'd say it's equal to my JL dresses which cost much more. Only difference is this isn't lined, although the fabric is heavy enough that it's not really needed. Can always wear my own slip underneath if necessary though. Happy happy!0 -
Kondoed some catalogues and a cardboard box this morning - was about to kondo a pet brush - the kind with very fine needle like prongs. No good for my moggy 'cos her coat is too dense. LBM! It makes a great comb for getting the fluff, cottons & hair out of my carpet and cleaner sweeper brushes so now in its new home in my cleaning trug! Returned a magnifying mirror to TKM as it was only a 3x and not strong enough for my eyesight!! Changed for a 5x but bought a Stellar loaf tin as well - naughty naughty silva - but it will bring me joy when I make my tea loaves etc as its very sturdy and wont twist with the heat.
Off to see if the local council will take a small amount of shredded paper in the green bin.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
