The KonMarie method

Morning all, yesterday I cleaned all the spider poo from the conservatory, and washed the windows in there.
The two triffids  I have kondoed to around half their size! It now looks much brighter. My folding screen has had the material taken back off to clean and scrubbed the frame ,I need to find a way to re attach the material as I had stapled it to the frame originally, but made it difficult to take off to clean.:(
Kondoed some silver twigs with lights wrapped around them, and a very large glass vase which was in the garage.
I must agree that when out shopping I also find myself thinking twice about buying, and usually now don't!
No real Kondoing happening at the moment, but I am trying to get back into the swing of things, so some cleaning has happened at least!
I do know that I have a couple of duff DVDs that I replaced but never through out the duff ones :wall:, so as the bins are now empty I may get rid of those!
I do have a lot of DVDs but I watch them all - so not sure what to do about that!Must use my stash up!0 -
Thanks knitwitch I had been thinking along those lines, will investigate how much I need (nips to draw for tape measure) the fabric has come clean a couple of rust marks from the staples but I can alter the material so it won't be there.
Had sisters over as birthday for one of them it was nice to sit in conservatory, and knowing everywhere is clean and tidy.
Still trying to persuade dd2 to let me at her bedroom:rotfl:Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Evening All - iqueen thanks for the Pringles tube tip for storing needles - mine are in an old plastic roll that's falling apart & DH can supply me with a tube almost every evening if I'd let him lol!
He had a leaflet from Screwthingy yesterday with a voucher for a free boot tidy so I had to take advantage didn't I? In fact it will do nicely at the bottom of the wardrobe in the spare room to hold my packaging supplies - much neater than carrier bags. I also managed to Kondo a rug from the spare bedroom at the weekend - it was elderly and no longer sparked Joy. I'm finding now that I've got things that just always been 'there' and I've got so used to them Ino longer noticed them & now I'm realising just how much 'stuff' is totally superfluousSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I needed to clear a shelf in the airing cupboard for actually airing stuff on it
so took the opportunity to evaluate stuff.
Kondo'd 1 hot water bottle and an odd stopper. Moved things around and thought about them carefully - huge tablecloth and 12 matching napkins came out, as did the spare shower curtain. I kept the tablecloths and runners my grandma and great great aunts made - they do give me joy even if they spend most of their time safely away from motorbike parts, warhammer models and the cat's claws. I folded them neatly into a shoebox and stood it on it's side at the back of the cupboard, with another on top on it for sanitary towels & tampons. The beach towels are rolled up & standing up next to them, with the spare bath mat in the corner - all visible but not in the way of the hand & bath towels or the flannels.0 -
Morning all.
Was offline for over 24 hours as feeling a bit wan and have to use a pooter at work, so thought I'd rest while at home. But I was thinking of you all, as I decided to kondo a little paperwork and got rid of some bits and put some necessary keepers away so that they don't get to clog up the workaday filing box.
silvasava, you wanna watch those Screwf*x cataglogues, they are the crack cocaine of the catalogue world, full of seductive items for the handy and practical among us. Mum had to stop having them in the house as they were leading to unplanned and probably mostly unnecessary purchases. I quite like leafing through them, myself.
I use cardboard boxes to separate the undies and socks etc in the drawer. Not terribly elegant, and I wouldn't be adverse to replacing them with something else, as and when it presents itself very cheaply in the charity shop, but can wait patiently for that.
PWD, snap! I too had a plumber in yesterday evening to change out a couple of taps. Tradesman in a kondo'd kitchen and undersink cupboard? Nooooooo probs whatsoever.Next Friday I will have a gas engineer in all day, and will have to empty the bottom of the tank cupboard. Which contains the following; plastic step stool, cleaning bowl, brush & pan, pair flipflops. Which will take about 10 seconds to relocate and about another 10 seconds to remove and roll the runner rug in the hall, plus about 3 seconds to take the pockety pouch thingy off the inside of the tank cupboard door.
All of which is fast and easy to do, and fast and easy to put back. I do love simplicity, don't you?!:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Knitwitch so sorry to hear about your mum. Losing my mum prompted me to have a massive refocus on my priorities in life which I have stood by to this day.
Sorting out her home and affairs was not joyful but having very little storage space in my house I was fairly ruthless and I have no regrets on that these years later.
tibawo, so sad to hear about your sister's dog. People without pets can underestimate the grieving process for an animal but it's very real.
Just about caught up now, after my very joyous holiday with my bestie lurker friend MW so many pearls of wisdom and inspiration here.
My home has been joyfully neglected over the sunny days but as someoneon here said, weirdly Winter doesn't seem such a fright when you have some projects lined up!
Spent an hour Sunday evening looking for a hot water bottle I keep for my neighbours cat who sleeps in my old rabbit hutch in the garden (lined with one inch thick polystyrene, straw and a gorgeous car boot bargain blanket. )
This resulted in some impromptu sorting out, chucking out, CS piling, putting all my ski socks into one place (so many, for just one pair of fee!) as I searched various places but still haven't found the flipping thing so that's my mission for the weekend!
The YouTube link - AWESOME! I can listen to it at work as long as I'm discrete - but actually, I'm wondering if I plug it in at night before bedtime it will go into my subconscious like hypnosis! :rotfl:Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
Mavvymoo What a bargain for £2.50!!
Look at this and gloat
http://www.johnlewis.com/nydj-straight-leg-jeans-indigo/p333829It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
About to delve back into the study, wish me luck!0

I haven't, I really need to get a copy though! I've read a lot about it on various blogs and things
That's what got me interested so I ordered the book at local library. It's a bit far fetched in places but I found it motivating. I think most of us adapt her ideas though even if it's only because not all drawers are a uniform size;).Had sisters over as birthday for one of them it was nice to sit in conservatory, and knowing everywhere is clean and tidy.
I'm determined to finish mine before Saturday as we have visitors. Will probably sit in our pristine sitting room:D but it would be good to have the choice and I'll know it's clean and tidy which is what matters.A_Frayed_Knot wrote: »Mine too, have all my threads, ribbon, buttons, motifs, diamontes etc etc are all out and covering the spare bed, can so much come out of a couple of boxes? Just pulled them all out and are in front of me now, so time to start konding.
That's my job for today.:)0
