Have just spent the last 3 hours listing items on ebay to try and get them out of here! The majority will then be CS'd if they don't sell (there are a couple of party dresses which I may relist closer to Xmas) Either way, that's a couple of large bags full of stuff which will heading out of here within the next week or so!
Have also priced up all kids stuff for the next nearly new sale (5 weeks time) Kids get the money from their stuff (toys/ books) and I get money from clothes/ equipment - any money I make (whether NNS or ebay) will be added to our Florida fund!
Has meant that it looks as though I've been lazy this morning when you look around, but hopefully the time and effort spent will reap some rewards
Still ploughing on with paperwork - recycled/ shredded/ filed a load more yesterday - am slowly getting there! Piles are now much reduced to just one box of stuff to do, so I can see some real progress:j Four kids, a BTL property, a business and a charity (for which I'm treasurer and trustee) - two cars and the usual house related stuff means I'm never going to get it down to a teeny amount but I have culled lots and it's more organised than it was. Just need OH to do his stuff now - he has WAY more than I ever did - and I manage paperwork for all 6 of us (and the business and charity) - his is 98% job related (interesting articles, useful information etc) - definitely one for him to tackle whilst he's between contracts!!
ETA: carrier bag of clothes of mine heading out later this week to the above mentioned charity - we've had a plea for some clothes for a mum of 6, so had another sort out of mineI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Are you Dutch Icey77 ? My kids have an Oma and Opa
Lurks back down ......
No, German decentmy Oma married (2nd husband) an English soldier and she and my mum came over to England in 1949 I think. My mum was 5 at the time.
I think Dutch and German languages share the same roots so many words are the same or similarWhether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
Hello again.
Did someone mention the dreaded kitchen corner cupboard? It is useful for things used once a year or rarely, e.g. Christmas decorations. Admittedly, the tree might be a but problematic.
Or kondoed long-term paperwork, e.g. wills, title deeds, insurance docs. The Gubbins you have to keep, but don't need to be referred to on a regular basis.
Or hiding OH's prezzies. Is he going to clean the kitchen cupboard? Heck as like ;-)0 -
I just wanted to add something to those of you who have had bad experiences in the CS with donations....as a long time volunteer for our local cat charity....
Most of the people working in those shops are volunteers - you may find in most cases they have a paid manager - unfortunately relying on volunteers can be a bit unpredictable and the shop needs one reliable and responsible member of staff to make sure it's opened up each day.
It can be a thankless task, and some volunteers will always be more joyous than others but just remember, they are human beings like us, they may be cheerful, moody or whatever, having a joyous or depressing day, but they are still there, giving up their time. They have to deal with Joe Public every day, people shoplifting from them, bartering over 5p, bags dumped outside the night before (pillaged, ripped open, beyond selling or sometimes just plain rubbish) - the CS has to pay to dispose of anything they can't sell too.
We can't expect them to be joyous all the time and THEY are NOT the people we are donating items or buying from to help. They are just the means to get the funds to the charity we want to support although it's likely many will have other links with the charity or a family member who is/has been benefiting from it.
I had some similar experiences and got very grumpy about it myself so when I accept donations (I only take them in for the cattery so mainly cat fud) I am always now sure to SHOW a donor my thanks (on behalf of the cats) - I want them to feel GOOD about donating (so they come back again with more!) And EVERY item of food is useful so it's easier to be genuinely grateful than if someone turns up with a load of stuff you know from past experience no one wants to buy.
Anyway, sermon over, I'm off to YouTube - I really don't recall the bit about socks sleeping or something like that ????
EDIT...this post was not aimed at any person or post on this thread it was merely that some of the comments reflected my own experiences and this is how I worked through them in my own head...I did not mean to cause any offense ref the pm I received. Joy to you all!Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
How does everyone store ties? OH's are driving me mad! We don't really have any drawer space for them, so the rolling them up method won't work.0

My DH has something like this:

His is attached to the 'wall' just inside the wardrobe.
I do take your point about working with volunteers Julie, but IMO if someone is going to volunteer for a public facing role then you become the face of that charity so there isn't a place for taking out grumpiness with the public.
Taking a break from sorting the endless craft bits. I'm working through a carrier bag of tangled ribbons, bias binding, tape, elastic, some thread and odd cards of buttons. Some of it's inherited but a lot of the mess is down to me.:o My plan when I've finished is to lay out all my craft bits including all knitting, sewing and embroidery to gauge what size home I need for it all and how it'll best be stored. This started from me moving out (for decorating) the bits that used to live in the sitting room under the sofa table, a bag behind one sofa and gathering other bits from all round the house. All that's going to have a home downstairs in future is enough for basic running repairs stored joyfully and any current projects. That's the plan;).0 -
Afternoon , Konverts!
I've kondoed almost the whole day with my solicitor! Crossing my fingers (YET again) that the wrangle's close to conclusion.
Nothing got to the tip or CS, as it was trapped in the car at the Parkn Ride, while I was either with the solicitor, waiting for typing to be done, going to the bank for statements, or killing time over lunchtime! Kondoed a visit to Mr M's and came straight home - just too wrung out, after all that legalese.
Never mind, no more appointments for a while, so I can concentrate, fully, on kondoing! :j
Did find a bit of un-MK joy, when I got home on the laptop!I had 'won' something on the Bay!
I've been looking for a sewing pattern for a baby's smocked dress from NB - like gold dust, with prices to match. I got an unused one, complete, for £3.50 inc p&p! Go me!
Don't worry, fellow Konverts - I have already kondoed my sewing and knitting patterns, but I'm sure I will find a sewing pattern that can go, in place of the new one!
silvasava: The Pr!ngles tubes work brilliantly, and one day I will knit/crochet covers to stick on them!
Luckily I have 2 Mr M's Grated Italian Cheese tubes that are larger than than the usual ones, for my DPNs - not sure he does that size anymore. On the other hand, Pr!ngles do shorter tubes now, as well! :rotfl:
I agree about all the carp that has taken root for so long that we had stopped noticing it. I'm still finding things that suddenly jump out at me. The sheer pleasure of discarding them, without a moment's thought! :j
smoosh: No ties in my home, but have seen a neat idea - clothes-hanger with a bar, shower-curtain rings clipped over the bar, ties /scarves through rings.
Enjoy your well-earned evening, everyone!Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

I totally agree. I volunteer my time for a large national charity( not in a retail outlet) and that is what we are always told..........we are the face of the charity and that is what the public remember.Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Thanks for the ideas everyone!
The study is almost finished! OH got home from work and I got him to sort out some of his paperwork, now we just need to sort his clothes out.
7 carrier bags of "stuff" in the bin and about another 10 full of books, games, dvds etc. ready for the charity shop :j The cupboards in the study are now organised and everything has been put into sections so that it's easy to find.
Having it organised makes me really want to work on decorating the room how I want it and getting new furniture, but since we'll probably be moving next summer (when I graduate :j ) it seems a bit pointless.0
