(Steps back over the lower 'p'work wall', guiltily!) :o

Thanks for the reminder, Becky 2! ;)

As I came downstairs this morning, I thought , hmmm, must ask the gals (we're all wannabe rock-a-billies, aren't we? ;)) 'about the freezer'! All round the houses to get here! :o

We are all probably aware of guidance for, which shelves should be used for storing which foods, in the fridge. But, are there any similar 'rules' for the drawers in freezers?

I have 4 drawers: the top one is shallower, the 2 middle are full size, and the bottom one is not as deep (front to back), because of the motor, etc.

I have generally tried to store similar categories together, not always successfully. Any tips, suggestions, advice - most welcome. please. :o

  • Iqueen, our freezer is even smaller! - a shallow top drawer an ordinary-sized middle one and a half depth bottom one!
I try to keep all my frozen bread in the middle one and meats/ cooked leftovers and petit pois in the bottom. The top one gets overflow quiches and fish - when I can get them YS in MNS. I manage it much better since I now buy weekly rather than monthly!I keep thinking about getting another freezer for the garage but there are only the 2 of us so we can manage just fine!! Love the really organised freezer photos from a while ago but we don't have that much room or food!

maman, I think I remember a bit in the book where Marie had a client who was very decluttered but still feeling restless and stressy; the problem was a storage cupboard full of brightly lettered fruit type boxes with shouty writing on them, which were right in the client's face whenever she opened the door. It was better when they were switched out for something calmer.

I tend to prefer things in muted, natural shades with either no pattern or a subtle pattern. I have a bit of a thing for baskets, particularly red willow baskets, but restrain myself by keeping to a number, size and shape of ones in use, rather than just any random ones which catch my eye. Very small home, can't have unitaskers here.

Thanks for that GQ, I'm glad I didn't imagine it! 'My' box is from bananas but it fits the space really well. I think I'll use it for now and when all homes are finally fixed I'll either cover it or buy something.

Occasional tables: these depend on your style, but FYI, glass ones give the impression of more space, if they suit the room. When the Room of Doom is kondoed, I want it to be a relaxing sitting-room, with my books, in an Art Deco style, so I shall be buying a couple of Eileen Gray-style tables.

They are lovely tables but wouldn't suit my home which is a 100 year old Garden City copy of a Georgian cottage. I'll keep looking.

I have two freezers which sound very similar to yours. I try to stick to categories but sometimes it's a case of just squeezing things in where I can. I am pretty good at keeping an inventory so that helps. So I have 8 drawers. The slopey bottom ones I use for frozen veg. The other 6 are bread products. meat, fish (top), ready meals (shop bought like Indian/Chinese), ready meals (HM) and miscellaneous (top) like lemon slices, ice cream, grated cheese, ginger.

No kondoing done here as I've been out all day but have been thinking.;)

Have been back on the paperwork section again today..... (after a break of a couple of months!) Got rid of a lot, but still a long way to go! (although I can already appreciate the improvements made by the earlier KM session :D) Was very joyful getting rid of lots of letters relating to our mortgage (although I have kept the annual statements for now, as they are currently joyful!:D)

Also found 4 old phone boxes form phones we no longer have, hiding at the back of a cupboard....:o On the plus side, though, 2 of them look like great potential komono solutions for in drawers!:D:D (so are in a currently unused drawer which has other similar potential storage in and which will all be sorted accordingly at the end)

    :) Evening all.

Wow, what a lot has been going on today and I love that 50s frock. Red netting, oooh, that's a bit 'fast' innit? :rotfl:

Had an LBM moment in passing between work and going out again and realised that the basket, with the cotton lining, that I have on the side for keeping my hankies in could probably fit in the airing cupboard.

Now that the airing cupboard has been kondo'd, it was the work of about 10 secs to move two bags of linens to the top shelf and put the hankie basket in their place.:D It's making me happy to see it there (am going back to peek :o).

Which means one less thing out under my eyes. And I was making arrangements to visit with the folks and kid bruv reminded me of the packaging materials which a pal gave me to give to him a few weeks back and which I'd parked in the bike shed. Outta sight is so easily outta mind, have you noticed? Will be dragging them with me on public transport, bit of a faff but worth it to help him out.

My new-to-me bag is joyful and will mean that the so-so but not particularly joyful one can be re-donated. One in, one out.

The too-short top which was annoying me the other day is going through the wash as we speak and can be donated next week. Life's too short to fiddle with clothes, and I don't exactly have tanned-and-toned washboard abs which need to be on show, the exact opposite, in fact.

Just found a long forgotten tupperware box filled with excess cutlery...too good to chuck, so it will be going in the office kitchen, along with a few orphaned plates.

Also found the missing soup spoons from my everyday set which can go into the tidied drawer.

The office kitchen is now bulging with my cast offs. :-)

Well what a week. I have been covering for holidays at work so have been doing two peoples jobs and its been manic. Despite having very little time I have come home today to a reasonably tidy house. All thanks to you lot and your encouragement.

So instead of being frazzled rushing around tidying I am nicely fed and relaxed with a glass of wine. OK the carpet could do with a hoover but that can wait till tomorrow.

I am not complete finished kondoing but I have made so much progress. If anyone is finding it hard believe me its worth it in the end.

Wow! So much activity here, I'm just catching up.

Freezers - I have two: one has two sensible drawers (top one holds meat and fish, middle one holds fruit, ready meals and frozen desserts (HM or boughten) and over-flow from elsewhere, bottom titchy drawer holds HM soups (thank you to Clutterfree for stacking photos a few pages back). Freezer 2 has HM bread, crumble toppings and frozen herbs in the top (ice cream too when I forget about the diet), next drawer has frozen vegetables, below that is meat for the dogs, and below that again in a diddy space with a drop down front are things like bones for the dogs, frozen orange peels waiting till there are enough for marmalade and crushed chicken carcasses waiting to be done down for stock.

Boxes they seem to turn up when needed. My best ones held continuous-flow computer paper 25-odd years ago, were collected for packing when I moved house, and subsequently covered with joyful old wallpaper and lined with Kraft paper to hold all sorts of "stuff". They fit nicely four to a shelf on some plain pine storage shelves.

I replaced a large, dark wood coffee table with these - the old table sucked [STRIKE]joy[/STRIKE] light out of the room, these are lovely (until you need to move them as they weigh a ton :rotfl:).

:D Thought I'd give you a few laffs by showing you the unitaskers on unclutterer.com.

You know consumerism can go too far, don't you? Here's the proof.

What's the weirdest unitasker you've uncluttered from your life?
