Thank you Mavvy, I do keep thinking about it and will promise myself one once I've finished the quilting I'm working on.
Just had to do a quick dash outside as the heavens have just opened up on my almost dry washingSPC~12 ot 124

[STRIKE]Morning Konverts![/STRIKE]
Afternoon, Konverts! :rotfl:
I can understand why paperwork is such torture.
When I organised all the 'current' stuff (i.e. top of the piles!), back in January, it was easy! :rotfl: Now, tackling tons of paperwork (mostly carp!) is so slooooow!
The only joyful thing about p'work, yesterday, was that the majority was discarded. Filled my nearly empty recycle sack, for collection today, but filled another sack for burning. Sadly, I still have to kondo the brambles to reach the bonfire site, but need to change inner-tube (still!) on the wheelbarrow, to do that!Burning sacks are piling up in the shed!
It's very like those OPs, who had to move things to get to cupboards or drawers before doing what needed to be done - there's a chain of tasks before...
Still, I have caught up on the posts here! Will post my comments, then I'm 'back in'! It will be a major, visual triumph, when it's done! :j
maman: MK suggests appropriately sized boxes/containers as we are kondoing - particularly shoe-boxes. We are permitted to buy joyful storage, at the end of a category, (or after we've finished kondoing altogether), when we are certain that each category has a permanent home.
I only use one handbag, day-to-day. I don't often empty it, but I do weed out anything unnecessary each week.
VJsmum: Yep, I was a meticulous 'wifey' in the 60s - that's what I was raised to be. After marriage, that was my career, and I loved it. (Shame many women no longer seem to have the choice.) Even hand-washing, starching, and ironing my DH's pure cotton shirts, brought me joy - no washing machine until after my first DC was born! Having a defined purpose in life, and doing it well, was a source of self-esteem and pride, particularly when an older neighbour complimented me on how white I got my babies' nappies! :rotfl: If only life was that so simple today!
Yes, you are great company! Could do with a weekly meet-up, as we've only scratched the surface, even though we covered a helluva lot of ground! :rotfl:
yellowbear and mrs-moneypenny: Not worrying, really is that simple! We have to re-train ourselves to get back to the carefree attitude we had when younger. The great thing is we have some wisdom now, so we can avoid the scary careless attitude of our teenage children!
Vision of my 15 year-old DS2 careering down the steep, forested hill opposite my house, on his mountain bike, and coming home with a hole in his side, when he crash-landed on a spikey log! _pale_
" You could've died!"
"So?"
"Or you could've ended up paralysed, blinded, etc etc..."
"So?"
:mad::mad::mad:
My life, as a lone-parent, seemed to run from crisis to crises in the latter years, with the bailiff a regular visitor, he almost became a friend! I gradually came to think that permanent stress was normal! I'm so glad I've re-trained! :j
Occasional tables: these depend on your style, but FYI, glass ones give the impression of more space, if they suit the room. When the Room of Doom is kondoed, I want it to be a relaxing sitting-room, with my books, in an Art Deco style, so I shall be buying a couple of Eileen Gray-style tables.
I suggested to VJsmum that MK has missed a marketing trick, by not providing badges for Konverts! I told her that, when we met, I would be carrying my copy of The Bible! Luckily, I had described myself, because she has the kindle version and didn't recognise the hard-copy! :rotfl:
The only ironing that brings me joy is ironing seams on home-sewing, but I haven't room to do any for [STRIKE]several years[/STRIKE] a while - and I am avoiding making any space, until near the end of kondoing, or I'll never finish! :rotfl:
GQ: I agree with burning bridges (especially unjoyful ones), but do you burn them when you get to them, or after crossing them? :rotfl:
mav: '1, Your feet are never going to grow to the next size up'.
Oh, iTwin, I wish this was true!My feet are 2 sizes larger than the 11 pairs of shoes I had to discard!
They were another case of 'the rose candle'.
Had to laugh at the Wicked Witch! (Roast chicken on Sunday?;))
Bluefire: You'll have to make some ditsy old-fashioned overalls (with bias binding!) and some frilly 'hostess' pinafores, so you be authentic 50s! I'm planning on making frilly pinnies, so I can feel joyful doing chores (and thrill the postman, occasionally!) :rotfl:
Igamogan: I must admit, the scent of ironing white bed-linen is enjoyable, in many ways - I may just treat myself, occasionally, when I've finished kondoing (and can't find anything more joyful to do!)
TopQuark: Since your DH was so enthusiastic about getting rid of some of the hoard at Grandmere's property, you might be able to 'help' him understand that the hoard built up very slowly. If he can see the connection between the clutter/excess in your home, it might click!
Well, finally, on with the motley! :dance:Needs, NOT wants!

Mrs MP You would really suit the 50s style dress
It would be perfect for you. Get the sewing machine out I am sure you can make one (or know someone who could)
Mav x
Ooooo! And don't forget to make the net underskirt, too, mrs-moneypenny!
Wish I still had the figure for those dresses, I made loads, including a lovely one, that was out of white cotton border-print with large brown roses. (About 1/11 a yd, off the market!)
Hmm, maybe I'll have to trawl the Net, for attractive Vogue matron styles?
NO! Not. NOW. iQueen. Later - after the kondoing!

16, Leggings or tights you have to keep hitching up
Or that are so thin on the bum your pants are clearly visible (cringe...)
I think you have done the right thing clearing out the left overs. Our local WI divides all the left overs from their annual jumble sale at the end of the day between the volunteers favourite charities, everyone gets a few bags each to donate. I used to get loads of blankets for the cat charity from them, now when I turn up they say 'oh you're the cat lady aren't you'!!
2 bags to the cs - Isabelle Hospice now have a shop in the car park of our Tescos, next to my Dr surgery too, so easy to drop stuff off. I wanted it to go to the cat charity as my priority, but I wanted it out of the boot of my car more....Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
That's a lovely joyful photo bluefire.SPC~12 ot 124

I've just realised I deviate from KonMarie's advice  . I don't put my tank tops in colour order; instead, I alternate between light and dark colours, so that I can tell the dark ones apart

Thank you all for your support this week when I have been off, I find this thread very motivating. Sadly back at work next week but at least this week I have managed to catch up on those tasks that I have wanted to do for ages, particularly phone calls. Having had chance to catch up with myself means I now feel more relaxed. The house is looking neater too. OH has promised to tidy up in the garage on Sunday as well which will make a big difference.
Today our windows and window frames got cleaned by our window cleaner, it's over a year ago since he was here last. It's such a joy looking out of clean windows.
This bank holiday weekend I am planning to do a freezer list so that we can start getting better at meal planning and using up ingredients from our food cupboard. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

If it still looks like it needs ironing it goes in the chazza bag but generally now I'm pretty good at judging what needs ironing pre purchase so just don't buy it.
I know people who leave their washing in the machine for hours/overnight, then move to an ever increasing ironing mountain and then go shopping for new stuff cos they can't find anything or the kids have grown out of it by the time they get to it!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I'm the same. Honestly can't remember the last time I ironed anything. When I kondo my kitchen cupboards it will be interesting to see if an iron shows up:rotfl: if so it can go straight to the charity shop! Not sure if they take them actually, and mine must be pretty old:DWhen life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0 -
Taking a break :coffee:
Great idea, Siebrie! MK, is not always right about storing!
Fabulous photo, Bluefire, you and DH look brilliant! There's hope for me yet, apart from my age... I would probably look like like one of those women who never moved on from her youth, especially with 50s make-up; and, of course, I would have to dye my hair raven black, too! And, (mav), wear white winkle-picker stilettos! OMG! Shudder. Maybe I'd better stick to Boho! :rotfl:
I was just checking out some Boho clothes, and the sizing is all over the place these days! Apparently, my bust makes me a16 , but my hips are... er some sizes bigger!
All my life I have been exactly an old UK size (hips 2 inches bigger than bust, but for 15 years, hips one size bigger than bust.
My old Inspire jeans 22 (approx15 yrs-old) fit perfectly, (waist and hips). The ones I bought early this year (22) are a size too big and I have to wear with a belt. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!
Obviously, this change is designed to make women think they are smaller than the reality, and keep them buying Stuff! (otherewise they might stop buying, in the hope of losing wieght!) No wonder we have an obesity problem! Most women don't bother with the scales, if they can still get into their usual size. So, many are buying the same size tag, but larger clothes, without realising they are getting fatter!
Ah well, at least, with my Boho style, I can patch the inner leg of my Inspire jeans - they are actually made of vertical strips of different blue-coloured denims, so no will notice they are patched! :j (They only escaped the Kull, in exchange for gardening duties! Now, they get a second life! My favourite jeans of all!)
(Wanders back to p'work, wondering if I really want to start wearing clag on my face again, in order to look authentic, while wearing a rock-a-billy dress... ) Hmmm. Decides to get needle and thread for the jeans... blushes with shame, as steps over p'work! :rotfl:Needs, NOT wants!
