Thinking practically - it will get very dirty and leather bags are notoriously difficult to clean at the best of times.
.
I have to agree, I had a white queen mum style in my younger days:o I threw it away in the end as it got scuffed so quickly I spent more time cleaning it than I did taking it out.SPC~12 ot 124

Slightly off topic, but here,s a pic.
As for clothing, I work 6 hours a day for 3 days a week, so I treat my work clothes like a uniform, trousers = same pair for the 3 days, just clean top and pants (obs) I wear yoga pants round the house and change for 'public viewing'

I have lent my book to a work colleague, so read this thread to keep me going. But I am truly loosing the will with the paperwork. I am seriously thinking of moving on to another category to get things going again, and coming back to paperwork later.
I've had 2 goes at paperwork so far, and it's still 'in need'....it's a hard one. The only category I'm dreading more is photos. I have a blanket box full of them, both mine, and inherited.....I just love photos, and taking them, but have stopped printed any out over the last few years, because of how many I already have. How do others deal with the photo mountain? I really want to get my best ones out, on the walls, to enjoy.FurryBeastOz wrote: »I discovered a wonderful book (actually it was recommended by my therapist) 'Hardwiring Happiness' by Rick Hanson. Thanks, I love a good book recommendation, all downloaded on my Kindle (obviously, no clutter). Also, it keeps what I am reading more private, no one can nosey on my shelves - if they did, they would think I'm an avid gardener and chef, which couldn't be further from the truth, those books just look nice on the shelf :rotfl:
White handbag...hmmm...what were you doing looking at bags in the first place MavvyMoo...!!
I'm at work as usual, so my house is quietly festering away at home, the cats causing as much carnage as possible for me to clear up, but they bring me so much JOY. Big clean up is scheduled for Saturday....I've managed to move the CS pile to the car boot, where (standard procedure) it will be driven around for a week before being picked over by my sister and then finally reaching it's intended destination!! Our cat chazza has a fete coming up but not sure we have any posh gear coming our way! :rotfl::rotfl:Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!

What ARE you thinking of, iTwin? A white handbag? Although, I must admit, on the right occasion, in the right venue, with your grey and/or black clothes, it could look very stylish!
Oh, and the stilettos have to be winkle-pickers, too! I remember that in the 60s... it was a certain type of girl... even in the East Midlands!I wasn't allowed! :rotfl:
A white handbag would remind me of a 1950s family holiday in Jersey. My Mum let me use her wikid little square white, 'box' handbag. It held my 'jewellery' and my holiday savings of £2-10s-0d. Walking on the qauy, the bag slipped from under my arm, into the harbour! Gone, gone, gone!
As for the legal stuff, I'm like you. Even when this very thick envelope appeared on Friday, no banging heart, just curiosity. Reading through all carp in my cousin's 'Witness Statement' :rotfl: just a moment of annoyance. My solicitor soon put my mind at rest, so now it's just waiting Court papers to arrive. As long as my reputation and integrity are not besmirched, I don't give a damn anymore! :j

I should pay heed to your hurricane warning Iqueen! But sun is trying to peek through here so the optimist in me is hanging the washing out before I go on window cleaning duty. You may be in a position to say you told me so later.SPC~12 ot 124

Still persisting down here - DH has decided he wants Liver & Onions for tea and we need cat litter so will venture out later this afternoon as its forecast to be drying up....I hope.
iTwin - hmm white handbag - Just thinking out loud- does it go with at least 3 things in your wardrobe? How many times would you actually be able to use it. Would it bring you joy because its a 'want' or a 'need'. If its a 'want' its just another possesion to be Kondo'd later & regret how much you spent!
Use the money for something that will bring you joy through lovely memories perhaps????
Shredder given up the ghost & Ive got a mountain too - I'm afraid I'm just doing it folder by folder (teaspoons!) as there's so much from so many years - might be done by Christmas - then I can start on the photosI've decided its not worth keeping all the vistas & views of places as people only tend to look at photos with people in them so that should get rid of about 70pct!!

I need a joyful new bag as mine kills my back and the others are really not joyful to me.All good quality but bland :rotfl:I do like something a bit out there and just a tad OTT but thats just meYou can take the girl out of Essex but cant take Essex out of the girl :rotfl:

It's hard to say without seeing the bag mav but white/light bags in general don't do it for me. I was out with a friend last week and I'm sure she thought she looked good in her matching cream shoes, bag and trousers but to me it just said 'frump'. My DDs have coloured bags red and green which I always think look lovely with black especially for a lift in winter but although I've gazed at many I can't quite take the plunge. So it's black all the way for me but I did hang on to one brown one when kondoing bags.mrs-moneypenny wrote: »DH sort of cheated, he's taken 4 of the floor of shelf standing DVD racks out of the lounge and boxed them up elsewhere. I said that wasn't in the spirit of kondoing as its just moving stuff rather than kondoing unjoyful things.
I think there is a place for moving stuff unless you can truly get everything out like MK suggests and do it all at once. I feel I've achieved something if every category is moved to a home (even if a temporary home) rather than spread everywhere then I know the size of the job to be tackled. And with DVDs maybe he wants to enjoy each one before sending them on their way.springdreams wrote: »But I am truly losing the will with the paperwork. For me, getting it all in one place was a first step, then perhaps sorting into categories. Just doing that you'll probably discard some. Then move on to something else and if you find paperwork anywhere else move it in with the rest. Try and deal with all new paperwork quickly so the job doesn't get bigger. Mine's all sorted in folders now but I do what my PA used to do and keep loose bits in a drawer and file it when it needs doing/I have time.juliebunny wrote: »The only category I'm dreading more is photos. Mine were all over the house and I've just managed to get them all in one place. Some (a few:o) discarded as I went along. The rest are a project for the winter. I'm the eldest in our family and feel obliged to file and document all the photos of 'ancestors' I've inherited. For the others I'm really not sure so will be all ears for ideas.
I've emptied the final overhead cupboard in our bedroom today. Not sure if I explained but we have one of those 80s/90s overbed units which I can't wait to get rid of. When it's empty I can start leaning on DH to decorate. Final 3 boxes/bags are all haberdashery so ribbons and laces, buttons, pieces of felt etc etc. I want to keep but definitely needs pruning and proper storage as currently overflowing from carrier bags. It won't get sorted today but at least it's out and it's a start.0 -
Becky 2: I have been working on gradually controlling my stress for over a year. After living on adrenalin for the many years, two divorces, raising five children alone, nearly losing my house several times, etc, stress just seemed natural.
There were stressfull relationships, brown envelopes, equipment dying, expensive car repairs - I used every crisis to practise control.
In May I discovered happiness is a deliberate choice. I am now happy ALL the time. What is more I can now turn off stress, the instant I identify a stressfull situation!
So, practise, practise, practise. You can allow yourself to be stressed - or refuse to.
Thanks iQueen, for sharing your thoughts. How do you turn off stress? Don't feel that you have to share this unless you want to. I do my best to practice not to get stressed all the time but must try harder this week. However, this particular situation has really irritated me but I find talking about it with my OH helps.
Around 15 years ago I trained myself to become a positive person through practising gratitude. Perhaps I need to start doing this again. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
