Kiwisaver... I think if the coin didn't mean anything to me initially, then I'd have stuck with the original decision, but that's just me and I'm not very sentimental. Coins I've found don't tend to have much value 20 or 30 years on (my grandfather used to buy the sets for me from birth, their value tends to only be that on the coin), so unless it was something particularly special to me, I wouldn't worry.
I think it is a bit special though, once I realised that it wasn't just any old £2 coin and that I did save it obviously on purpose. It's a piece of my heritage, I don't live in the UK anymore and it's not taking up a huge amount of room in the grand scheme, so I have stored it away again in its box with a printout of info about it from the net.
I've been on the hunt this afternoon for a suitable rack to store baking tins and found a plate rack that is perfect for the job: it fits perfectly in one of my cupboards where I currently have vegetables and chopping boards - just need to find time to swap things around and rearrange everything. I might get another and have both shelves racked and then the chopping boards can all be stood upright as well. :TMortgage

Budget Closet Organization Tips: For Any Closet!: http://youtu.be/z1zd2vGBlA4
Not strictly MK well we arent following the book to the letter anyway.
Some good ideas though. Her hubbys closet at the end is like something I have .”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

Last night I read through the part about paperwork, and I realised that I had a big job to do there. I was thinking about buying a filing cabinet to store all the paperwork neatly, but realised that to be perfectly honest most of it could probably be ditched and I could just use one small file to keep what's necessary instead of the half a dozen lever arch files.
I mean, why on earth am I keeping tax assessments from 15 years ago? Why have I still got electricity/telephone/gas/oil bills from 10 years ago? I've got bank statements going back that far too!
I'm going to tackle the paperwork today.0 -
Hi Justamum. I've got a metal fireproof filing tin. It has a key and a carry handle. I've condensed everything into that box. Ie birth certificate, will, mortgage info along with NHS no, passport etc. I've also kept wage slips for a year and p60s for 5, along with share certs. I also condensed instructions for stuff like microwave. Its all in small holders that have the metal strips to hold them in. Ive had it years and its not that big but surprisingly holds everything important in colour coded files.
Its like having one drawer of a filing cabinet instead of a bulky one and its portable.
Edited just to say - My adult children have been told where it is and what's in there if anything happens to me..0 -
Hi All
I've been busy since my last post and now have a whole boot full of bags for the charity shop and a box of stuff to try and sell.
I've done my clothes, DH clothes, airing cupboard, ds clothes and dd undies. Had to swap to kitchen yesterday as ds is off school poorly so needed to be near him (I made him a bed on the sofa like I used to have when ill).
I've been spreading the word about samosa carrier bags. Dh said the ocado driver just stared at the three DH handed back! (Is it OTT to samosa carrier bags I'm not even keeping?) Ha ha.
Reading the book has proved a real lightbulb moment for me in giving myself permission to 're home things I had been keeping just in case. I have also tackled a few jobs that I had been wanting to do but not getting round to, Like descaling taps, cleaning oven and the stainless steel towel rail.
Ds(5 yrs) is feeling better today but still off school so I think coat/shoe cupboard will be tackled in between snuggling with him. He has batman pj's on complete with cape and a sticking up piece of hair on his crown, so cute
Happy Kondo'ing guys!

That sounds more sensible than a big piece of furniture which I was going to buy :rotfl: I'll have a look for one of those.
It looks like we might have to have a small bonfire this weekend to get rid of all the rubbish.0 -
Morning all.
Just taking a few mins waiting for the hall floor, which I've just scrubbed, to dry, then I shall apply the floor polish I found when Kondo-ing the undersink cupboard.
Yestereve, as I was putting my clothes away in my 5 drawer chest of drawers, I had a Thought. This is a very ordinary white melamine 5 drawer unit. Each drawer is exactly 5 inches deep, but the plimsoll line is, realistically 4.5 inches to allow the drawers to move smoothly. Which they now do, thanks to the magic of MK.
Howsomever, my flat is incredibly small, the bedroom being just a bit bigger then a standard double bed, and this c-of-d is getting in the way. So, I thought to measure the external measurements vs the internal capacity, and was astonished by the difference.
The unit isn't much wider than the intenal width of the drawers (2.5 inches) or its intenral depth (3.75 inches) but the height is shocking; to get 22.5 inches of internal storage space, I'm hosting a piece of furniture 45.5 inches tall - more than half the height is fresh air!
I'm kicking myself for not having established this before. There has got to be a bit of furniture out there, not necessarily a c-of-d, which has a smaller footprint but holds the equivalent amount of garments or more. Now I'm losing a mirror, I can go taller if necessary.
In case you're thinking I've lost the plot, I can only tell you that even if the replacement was 2-4 inches narrower, the improvement to the workability of my bedroom would be considerable.Starting today, and armed with a tape measure and notes, I shall commence hunting down the replacement at the chazzers.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I found this with all modern (ish) chests of drawers. In the end I bought a real old-fashioned, heavy c-o-d where the depth of the drawer front is about the same as the drawer internal depth. Apart from a small plinth to stop the bottom drawer dragging on the carpet it's all usable space.
In the DIY places all the drawers structures seem to have a depth of about 5cm - useless.
What about a tallboy? Would that serve your purpose? Or a bookshelf with baskets? Those cube things that can be stacked and added to? You could make fabric baskets for them - lids too.0 -
Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe, Pt 2 | How to Find and Embrace Your Style: http://youtu.be/pFFhEZLDiU4
I have always wanted to do this. I too wear a lot of black and white, with brighter coloured accessories.
Before I Kondoed my wardrobe
I had been buying some pale grey pieces that dont really suit me
so off to the CS they go.
She is very young so I will adapt to a more age appropriate
and size capsule wardrobe.
The videos are in three parts but this one tipped me over to try this.
I love the idea that everything will fit me and match.
I think I have enough for this winter to purge now.
Dont intent to buy any more clothes for a long while.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”
