    Hi all,

Getting frustrated reading how well your all doing...

We are camped out in the spare room, all our clothes and general stuff are in black bags and a couple of tatty drawer - the good news is that our own room is going to be finished (complete rebuild) end of next week, so I can chuck all our clothes on our new carpet and get sorting - the spare room is going to be a temporary kitchen the day after the clearout LOL. Such fun.....
Invite me round please, I am now having to pace myself, such is my craving for bare spaces and delight in throwing stuff out :o

You,d be more than welcome!!!! our house is like a giant tetris game with all of us moving bedrooms, each being revamped, and a new kitchen and ensuite thrown in for good measure

I have rolled my pants and tea towels, and got rid of 7 of my precious cookbook collection - as we speak I am eying the rest of the collection (approx 100) thinking 'do I need them, we have the interweb, which has millions of recipes' - am I brave enough........

  • I am struggling a little. I am currently doing jumpers/cardigans. Even after clearing out I still have 37 of these items which take up a lot of space. And I love them all. I am one of those people who feels the cold so you will rarely find me without a jumper, even in summer.

But come on, 37 jumpers and cardis? No-one needs that many surely. And I have thrown away some that I would have really liked to have kept but just dont have the space!

I know its against the principles but I think I need to do a second clearout, maybe in 6 months time to see if I still feel the same about things that I have kept.

Oh and sorry but I have kept my sports stuff in a plastic storage box in the bottom of the wardrobe because it works better that way. It seems a little OTT to try and do a kon-marie fold on my padded cycling shorts!! But everything else is looking lovely folded into little squares.

I am going to have a tea break then go back to it.

I know I will be walking past a couple of charity shops tomorrow so that gave me an incentive to spend the past hour or so sorting through two drawers I knew had loads of stuff that I never wear in: my jeans/trousers drawer and my jumpers drawer.

I now have 7 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of trousers and 11 jumpers (and a belt) in a bag for CS tomorrow.

Jumpers are all folded and filed which looks lovely. Couldn't work out how to do it in my trouser drawer as it is a deep drawer so lots of vertical space wasted, so they are still folded in piles.

Itching to do my t-shirts and underwear drawers now, but have to cook dinner.

I really need to fit all my cycling/sporty stuff in one drawer so I did manage to make neatish parcels out of my cycling shorts and longs, as they are so slippery I might resort to tying them loosely with ribbon to keep them from unfolding themselves though:rotfl:

    Hi folks
I've been reading this thread for a few days, now downloaded the book and read it tonight. I'd like to give it a try but when I suggested it to DD (aged 23, there's just us) she became quite upset and defensive. she is a bit of a hoarder :(
So my question is, will it work if I just do my stuff? Won't the communal areas stay cluttered? In which case is there much point trying?
Sorry if that sounds a bit lame, I'm confused :(

This is what I have been thinking as my daughters 25 and 20 have been laughing at my efforts. The 20 year old lives in squalor in her room and was quite horrible when I suggested that we tackle it. Aren't kids great!

Anyway, I thought about it and thought the communal areas are looking better. My bedroom is looking better. It is starting to rub off on OH and DS - a bit.

So if my daughter wants to live in a pit, let her. As long as she follows my rules for my spaces - bathroom, kitchen, living rooms and hall and stairs then I don't care. I can shut her door.

She will see the benefits and come on board at some point - especially if I start putting her clothes, shoes, phone, books etc in a bin bag if she doesn't put them in her room.:rotfl:

So in answer to your quandary - keep doing what you are doing. If it makes YOU feel better then it is worth it.

  • Don't think I'm going to manage much/any kondoing tonight how ever had a revalation today. Managed to choose a bracelet from my newly kondoed jewellery area this morning but have been looking at it on my wrist all day thinking, that's not giving me any joy. It survived the first sort but I do think there is value in kondo2 :o

Come to think of it I feel the same about the jumper I was wearing, I put it on cos it went with other items I always wear together, that'll be going too!!

    Have a good evening

Quote Grey Gueen : In the mornings when I open my socks and underwear drawer, and stare down at my lovely sushi-rolls of socks and knicks, and decide which ones I will wear that day, it's almost like choosing choccies from a box. I don't just wrench the drawer open a fraction and claw out the nearest pair, it's a considered choice.

This so true , I am doing exactly the same , I have also moved my underwear to two smaller drawers which hold the sushi rolls in a much neater fashion . I now have a large drawer which is completely empty :D. I won't mention it to DH he has to fill every orifice he sees :rotfl:
:D Modom! That last sentence is ripe for innuendo!

Today I nipped back home after work for 5 mins and hit the road again with a donation bag and had that off to a chazzer. Unshopping at its best, with only two bits of net curtaining in to replace them, and I have plans for those in a few days.

I also consigned one of the two tea-towels I have been wearing up to the ragging, and brought another one out of the storage drawstring bag. And took the opportunity to ranger-roll the others, because it's fun. I could feel MK wincing from the other side of the planet, but I promise I will only RR the microfibre and the tea towels that way.

Actually ran an iron over a few things, put them back on the rack to cool, then artfully folded them and slotted them into the relevent drawers. I still haven't got over the habit of admiring the neatly Kondo'd drawers, it seems to be bordering on a miracle.

I'm not naturally one of the tidy people, I have a lot of interests and a silly-small space to live in, but it's starting to come together. Can't wait to get more stuff outta here.

Was even talking decluttering with lovely hoarder Mum today, a woman who had a very unfortunate neglected and impoverished wartime childhood and who has issues about Enough, to put it mildly.

A couple of hours ago on the phone I said to her I guess you have to decide what you value most in life; Stuff or Time.

She came down firmly on the side of Time. She's in her seventies, I hope change is possible, we can but wait and see.

When you have finished I'll have her here.

I'm not surrendering the throwing out decisions. But anyone who wants to fold or roll is welcome. I'm making a pig's ear of it. :o. No looking at finished results with satisfaction here. :(.
  • I'm going Kondo Krazy.
I've started the kitchen and with only 2drawers and 1 large pantry left (full of non food stuff) I've nearly finished.
I don't like cooking so it was easy to get rid of stuff in there.
When I'm "Kondo-ing I've decided to think on the lines of " if god forbid something happened and I was no longer on this earth " and my children had to clear what I had would I be embarressed them seeing such an item. An item I don't love, want or need. So I've been ruthless but also in being so I'm going to replace a few items as I go along. Ie I keep buying cheap frying pans (all my saucepans are not non stick but are beautiful copper bottomed). My frying pan is a rusty mess and everything I cook gets stuck in the middle where I've scrubbed and scraped. So out that goes along with stuff I don't really need anymore. There's only me here now (and I love it) my own space and my own things. So I've decided to take out all my ornaments and display the ones I "love" and get rid of the ones I don't.
So as I'm kondo-ing I'm writing a list of things I need to replace. Not much so far so that's good.
Right back to more sorting... Then a lovely bath :-)
