Yesterday I Kondoed my store cupboard - or SHTF cupboard, if you will. A couple of tins of ham were so out of date that i won't risk it - not keen on tinned ham in any case. i bought them to take to Glastonbury two years ago, never ate them and they've sat there ever since, so i won't replace. A couple of tins of fruit that were several years out of date were ditched -- they are probably fine, but not nice enough to risk. Tonight DS and i will eat a Frayed Bentoes chicken pie (kind of goes against my no carb, fresh food thing - but i don't want to waste it, i shall only eat a little) - it is only a couple (or three or four :o) months out of date. Other about to go out or just out of date things will be used up over the next week or two.
My store cupboard also has a shelf of random carp - 5 packs of curtain tie back hooks (never been out the packet - charity shop bound), three pencil cases (thought all pencil cases had left the building - probably bin), 5 sticks of prit (I think we can keep one), £35 in bagged up coins (i will take to the bank and put them in the holiday fund), two vases I'd forgotten I had (chazzer - I like flowers in jugs), a tub of batteries that had discharged everywhere (bin - I guess they died in storage, didn't think "new" batteries did that), Candles, torches and matches (winter emergency box - they can stay). Anyhoo the upshot is I have cleared a good deal of that shelf and now my halogen oven can live on it rather than on the counter top :TI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Yikes, I posted this at about 8 am but managed to put it in the wrong thread, I don't know how as this is the only thread I ever visit!
I keep wrapping paper and gift bags in a drawer under the bed - Christmas paper and cards are stored in the loft and retrieved at the appropriate time. Greetings cards are in a box that I won in a raffle, but you can buy them, it has file sections for each month so (in theory) you have appropriate cards ready at the right time. I think I need to Kondo the box as there are several cards I don't love enough to send!
I know we're not supposed to be thinking of storage but there are some clever ideas on this link - http://www.listotic.com/50-brilliant-storage-ideas/, some of them are quite MK-style, too.
Re handbags: inside each other, as MK suggests, in a plastic crate on top shelf of wardrobe. I don't change bags to suit my outfit, but every so often I like a change. They're all TKMaxx bargains. I do think a handbag is a vet personal thing - has to be the right size, shape and hold what you need it to.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Oh I am LOVING these! Tupperware and bakeware in the SCARY kitchen cupboard I have yet to tackle, the lids are the bain of my life!! This links are more about organisation than storage so you can TOTALLY have this one! :rotfl:Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!

I mentioned a little while back that MK's comments about keeping toiletry sachets for travels had really resonated with me. I've since been on a drive to use these up before returning to my ongoing purge of acrued toiletries (I haven't had to buy shower gel for years
)
One of the body lotions I opened today had separated and smelt funny, so that when in the bin. The one I opened to use in its place didn't smell particularly nice. Imagine how disappointed I would have been if I had indeed taken these away on a trip?
I think that there is a lot of wisdom in the sentiment that we should treat every day as special, instead of saving things for best.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Yes, I heard something similar before reading this book. Enjoy more of the small things in life, dinner with a friend, a bubble bath, a walk with the dog, cuddle with the cat, kids whatever. That way you aren't waiting for so long in between each joyful event, in the same way as we count the days until our next holiday. You can have joyful experiences a-plenty. There was another thread on MSE where the poem 'If I had my life to life over' by Erma Bombeck was quoted - I would urge you all to read this if you haven't before - I have this pinned up at work now for when I get my priorities wrong at times.....although I think in the case of this thread, perhaps the pink candle in the poem should be the wedding glasses he heee!

Tidied out the big garden green storage yesterday, VERY scary job. Got most of my plastic plant pots and some rusty old tools just pending moderator approval on Freecycle. Also, I have finally admitted that I can't cope with the extra flower bed I had dug over in my front garden, and I've regretfully filled it back over to go to grass, just planted some daisies, in the hope they will grow and spread along. Aspirations here unfortunately didn't match time or energy available to pursue this project....sign...so I've kondoe'd a flower bed. Feeling a bit of a failure with this but perhaps in the future.....
Mavvy Moo, well done on culling the ungrateful brats from your present list...although, maybe they just consider your gifts condoed!
I was contacted by someone from the past (after over a year of silence) last night that I really don't need to have any ongoing contact with. I replied to ask them to stop reminding me of past sad events in my life, which is the only reason they contact me, (presumably in a moment of self pity) and got a big woe is me sob story in return. The old me would have replied trying to reason with them and probably also got dragged into a long and very depressing phone call.
The new me has decided to just not reply and hope they fade out of my life......and if they don't I will give them a shove. Its time to be kind to myself now.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!

Two pairs of skinny jeans (black naturally)
1 pair heels (black of course)

8 pair of pants (black to match my bras)
1 bronzing powder and kabuki brush
1 Extra dimension eyeshadow (to make up for the pallette i kondo'd the other day)
3 pairs of reading glasses (i'm down to my last pair)

I think the unwanted presents thing is quite complicated, depending on who receives them.
I did return, to DD1, with her permission, an expensive garment that I would never have worn. She was a bit miffed, but the fact that it would have been her money wasted won the day and she replaced it with something I really needed. Since then she asks for a list of suggestions. She gets an RSPB diary every Christmas, which she loves, because anything she wants or needs, she already has.
If I receive gifts from friends, that I don't like/ need, I appreciate the thought, and discard them via the kondo methods, if I can't joyfully re-purpose them.
I've rarely bought Christmas/birthday presents for anyone outside my immediate family - it was hard enough to afford presents for my 5 children.
Buying for other people can be very difficult, unless we know their tastes intimately. So, I would prefer to be told, if something that I've spent time making/choosing is not joyful to them - I don't want to keep repeatedly making the same mistake, and I'm sure they don't want me to either.
Diplomacy is the key, but unfortunately, most people can't bring themselves to say anything!
The handbag, iTwin. I agree with the OPs, sell it and recoup some of the money. It sounds like the same model as my DD1 passed on to me - a bu88er to fiddle with all the straps and twist-fastener at the supermarket checkout! :rotfl:
That reminds me, I need to re-line the Jane Shilton grab-bag she passed on many years ago - still my absolute fave, but unusable because the lining has totally disintegrated!Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

H-E-L-P Has anyone any solutions for bigger bras - big girls just don't buy padded bras so ours don't stand up in the kondo way. Mine are underwired and lacy - so don't fold or roll up. Also a couple of huge sports bras........any ideas?0
