Shame we missed each other at the beer festival mavvy, we are planning to go next year so maybe we'll meet up then. You weren't on the train Saturday afternoon, near the guy who got shocked and threw his beer all over the guy opposite when the train blew it's whistle next to us were you? (I was the one giving newspaper away to soak it all up off the floor and seats)

Going to start saving plastic cress boxes as I've just realised they will be ideal for the electronic cables drawer.

G (my OH) picked up a great tip for storing electric cables, and believe me, he has a lot to store. Use toilet roll or kitchen roll cardboard tubes, coil the cable up, tuck it into the tube, leaving the plug end at the top. Then you can store the tubes vertically in a drawer or box. It allows you to store loads of cables and to easily see what one you're looking for.

Well done Lola that is an amazing total. I haven't counted mine so far and now regret it but too late now.

Huge bag of books to museum for selling this pm but D sis took about 7 to read first! Also got rid of six knitted items - but came home with more wool!!

Going to have a quick dash around upstairs to see if I can find anything else to kondo to ch shop tomorrow morning when it is my shift.

I kondo'd my jewellery a few years ago and now have a huge jewellery box with not a lot in it- just a few very special bits and pieces. The box has lovely memories of an old flame - probably 40 years' ago! but I may look for something smaller that would also bring joy.

Catch up later - this thread moves so quickly!

Shereen - I'd picked up that tip from somewhere too. It's so good as you can mark the tubes with what the cable is for. Great when so many look alike from different electronic gadgets!
I've just been repurposing a tray that 3 Portobello mushrooms were in for some of my 'puter bits and I've used some ice cream containers to sort all the various spare batteries ;)

I've liberated 3 small cosmetics bags. The sort you get in a gift set. Pretty ones, but surplus nonetheless. I only tend to use them when travelling and I've kept my favourite ones.

Also ditched some out of date teeth whitening gel. Bought when trying to make myself feel better. There's nothing wrong with my teeth lol. Other bits I want to keep have been put in my smallest suitcase- we go away in a few weeks and it will all be needed then, so it may as well be in one place.

I'm a bit unsure what to do next, really. Actually- when I did my shoes, I forgot I had some boots in the top of my wardrobe- might lift those down tomorrow- and anything else lurking up there to see what's what...

Any small make up bags and any little sample packs of perfume etc etc can always be packed together and donated to Operation Christmas Child/Samaritans Purse. They will be distributed to teenagers in shoe boxes. I start sorting bits and pieces out from now. So if you feel the urge that you have to buy something that catches your eye think of how you can bring joy to someone else.

I have an ongoing bag for Op CC which the local person comes and collects from me whenever I email her (probably about 4x a year) - I give them unwanted washbags/ make up bags from gifts with purchases/ gift sets, hotel soap bars and body lotions, lots of stationery from my kondo-ing :D - pens, pencils, crayons, colouring pencils - and spare pencil sharpeners (although I'm not sure if they're allowed those?), stickers (my children often get random ones which they're not fussed on), old colouring books (even part used is ok), little toys from magazines/ party bags/ mcdonalds (all unwanted in my house but am sure they can bring joy elsewhere!) etc :D

11 sets of Sylvanian Families and 3 Thomas trains sold on fleabay - children v pleased as they are getting the loot! I have also sold a couple of items of clothing on there, so am also pleased! :D:T

Bit depressed tonight, walked into the house and it was a total mess, I hadn't washed up or tidied the kitchen last night cos I was feeling exhausted, and one of the cats had left me a little present...feels like I'm a long way from my goal at the moment....:(

Also, the spare room has loads of bits of stuff out that has surfaced during sorting and really doesn't fit anywhere...what to do with those?

juliebunny, we've all been at this stage I think, don't despair. Keep going and it'll start to take shape, if there's too much stuff in the spare room then maybe try and skip to one of those categories so you can clear a bit, OR maybe you've lost sight of the 'joy' principle and have kept stuff you don't really want? I remember thinking I would never find homes for it all, and then it began to fall into place. If there's stuff waiting for donation, try and get rid of that to make space.

What's amazed me (and I'm nowhere near finished) is that areas I have Kondoed have STAYED TIDY! That is a first for me, usually I'm back filling up the clear areas again within weeks. When I feel fed up, I go and look at my knicker drawer, and marvel. :rotfl:
