The book has arrived for me at the library and is now sat on my bedside table ... I've been lurking here for weeks and really enjoyed reading about your Kondo escapades. So why am I so reluctant to start reading the book?
Any thoughts anyone?
I picked up my book from the library on Monday and I'm already almost half way through. The way she writes is very easy to read so it shouldn't take you away from other reading for too long.
I'd suggest you read the library book now and see where it takes you then perhaps buy your own copy or re-reserve it for October.Mavymoo - with you there! A piece that brings you great Joy is worth whatever it costs. About 10 years ago I treated myself to a very smart (and expensive!) Italian leather and suede jacket. It is worn regularly still as its a very simple style and I love it. I've worked out that if I divide the cost by the amount of wearings its been peanuts!
Perhaps if you get all the clothes you have that you really love together maybe a common thread/style will emerge?
I'm a great believer in cost per wear. That can work either way. So something really expensive that you love is well worth the money. Similarly if you buy something cheap and fashionable (perhaps Primark or from a supermarket) and it just lasts a season you've still had your money's worth.
I've read a bit more of the book. I'm curious about all the things she discards. Don't they have CSs or ebay in Japan? I'm all for binning things that are past it but what a waste.
Thanks for the heads up on image consultants. I've just googled in my area and that's something I'm definitely thinking about. I had my 'colours' done years ago but lost the swatches so I'd like it done again. icey, I'd suggest you keep browsing the CSs when you get the chance. I used to dress almost head to toe in black but used the CSs to experiment with colours.
More reading on the agenda today;).0 -
Morning Konverts
Nice to see so many readers/kondoers coming out of lurkdomWelcome to the bumpy road of MK
Ditto, from me, iQ.
I have also kondoed 2 husbands but the one I have now does bring me a lot of joy so I am lucky.I have kondoed people out of my life and the only regret is not having done it years ago :rotfl:People I cant kondo (family) for example. I keep at arms length and dont get involved in any small chat if I can avoid itAlso hiding if they knock on the door helps :rotfl:That was a joke but I have been known to do that when I am busy.
This is getting really scary! _pale_
I was also alluding to family, in that post, when I spoke of kondoing emotions.
This process of stripping down belongings leaves you wide open to look inside yourself and you are somehow compelled to deal with past and present all in one go. The comfort blanket of (stuff) has gone and its like you are in an open space with no cover at all.So you are either picked off by preditors or you outsmart them.
Thats what I feel I have done I am always one step ahead as I no longer have that guilty feeling of I really should like that person and making excuses for them as we have been friends a long time or familyas no I dont have to like that person might have to tolerate them but I have no attachment at all
It is so liberating, letting go of negative feelings towards other people. Such feelings are a pointless burden, sapping our energy.
You know you are free of a relationship, when you feel nothing at all.
When we start this process we think of it as a major declutter but it really isnt in any shape or form. Its a hard and rocky road but when you get there I am sure it will be worth all the blood sweat and tears as I did have a lot of those moments
I am not the same person I have changed which is why I am having so many problems with clothes as they are so personal to you. Unlike other things which are shared by everyone in the household.
I think I know who I am now or hoping I do but I am struggling with clothes as I dont want to make a mistake and end up being that women who I was but I am not anymore
Life has a habit of overwhelming us at times, and we are so busy running on the treadmill, that we don't notice that we are changing.
One day (if we're insightful) we eventually realise that our clothes no longer accurately reflect the person we are!
Our new style is likely to be a more confident and thoughtful version of our old one, unless we've had a personality transplant! So start experimenting - which is how we defined our old style!
iTwin just for you I may just keep a pair of jeans so you dont have to imagine me sitting at the keyboard with my T-shirt and jumper and jacket on :rotfl:and nothing else ! :rotfl:PHEW! That's a relief! _pale_
I know now that I would rather have one expensive item that filled me with joy everytime I looked at it rather than 5 that were a bit joyful :rotfl:But thats really all I knowAdvice very welcome before I chuck the bl**dy lot which is coming closer by the day

Maybe you could settle on one garment that you need to fill a major gap, and start looking for it. Reseach online from chains, to designers, to P1nterest and online blogs and mags. Maybe jot down a few notes, that resonate - type/s of garment, what it should go with, possible colours? (Remember how you and your mates drooled over mags etc? All part of the honing process)
When you have found some truly joyful ideas, print off a few pics, go out to the shops (all/any shops - not chazzers) and try on items like the pics, until you find the shape, the colour, the fit, the design, that generates that MK spark!
NOW, start searching the chazzers! :rotfl:Needs, NOT wants!

This is strange looking up colours and I decided that the Colour I like wearing at the moment is Orange and this is what I read
Orange “helps being social and it brings you out of being in your shell. It is the best colour for helping you adapt to change,”
So I am in the process of changing more than I thought :rotfl:How funny

iTwin I knew you were talking about familyWhich is why I worded it as I did.But that is exactly how I feel' Nothing ':rotfl:
Good ideas on the clothes etc and I am working on it as we speakBut I do feel I need help to move forward which is where the image consultant comes into it. I am very self critical as I was never really good, enough thin enough,I was clever enough but wasted it of course :rotfl:and was told this for years and in the end I believed it and still do to some degree
Demons still to deal with

Whenever I get rid of things, some that have been around for a long time, I have the feeling that I'm blossoming, like a pea shoot bursting from the ground.
Life may not be easy, but, for me, it's less stressful if I live it in 'direct contact', not hidden or head in the sand. When my problems are mine, the joy of conquering them is also mine (does this make sense to anyone?). I don't want to hide or be buried in clutter, old friendships, or nasty family relations. So, I kondo, and find that life is flowing again. Molehills are reduced to their proper size, because the mountains of clutter, the looming clouds of tax forms, etc. have been removed. (I seem to wax poetic at work - better get back to earning my money. New boss started last week, we're still testing waters both ways.)
What you say resonates with me. I like living in the open. I take responsibility for my life, actions, and omissions. Life does run more smoothly when the decks are cleared and everything is open and honest.
(Oops! Just hope your IT Manager is not watching your screen remotely and reading your posts - you skiver! :rotfl: )I call the comfort blanket a 'barricade'. I have been hiding behind it for years now I being the real person who,for whatever reason and it could be many, decided to build it and disappear:( I keep warning the family that once I emerge I will be a different person but some how I don't think they believe me!
I recognise that barricade!
I realised a couple of years ago that I hated the piles of clutter. Yes, they provided the perfect excuse to keep people out of my life, but they didn't prevent my being hurt.
Then I realised that I could have a tidy home, for my own comfort, without needing a damaging excuse to keep other people out! Kondoing is releasing me from the mental anguish of clutter and giving me the confidence to draw whatever boundaries I need, wherever I wish them to be. :rotfl:Hi grunnie I just put image consultants norfolk (my area) and there was loads but this lady stood out to me.
Firstly she has the same name as me :rotfl:
secondly everything on her page made so much sense and she said you need 15-25 items max  Which was the clincher for me :rotfl:She does Colour and body shape styles she comes to your home and goes though your wardrobe with you :eek: and fits things around your lifestyle and will also go shopping with you
Only had a brief chat with her so far so will be able to let you know more later when I speak to her again. Dont know the costs yet but TBH I dont care it will save me a fortune in bad buys and mistakes I think. and set me on that final road to freedom :T
So will update later and well done on your (nearly) fully Kondo'd life:D

OMG, it's really expensive! What qualifications do these people have? What accreditation? I'd be very worried about letting a stranger in, to [STRIKE]case[/STRIKE] poke around in my home!
Pop over here, mav - I'll give you a free opinion and body-shape advice, when we've filled the skip! :rotfl:Needs, NOT wants!

Lots of orange around at the moment too... even if described as 'tigerlily' or 'hibiscus' or whatever.
I've just change the 'accent colour' I use with my black work suits from red to orange and it feels fabulous!0 -
I've had nearly a week of bad energy crashes and being ill. My bedroom is a tip again ! Hmm , I think this means I need rid of more things !:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0

Second day of my school holidays here. I have done so many bits of reKondoing- it feels great. I decided to do the cleaning products as I was doing a bit of kitchen cleaning. I found 5 different oven cleaning products. Thought I had better clean the oven as it was manky.
I have reconnected the TV in daughters room to Vir*in box. It has only been disconnected for 10 months due to decorating/building. Had to ring the company as it wasn't working. Job done! This might not seem like Kondoing but I can chuck the box storing the V box, get rid of the old TV that doesn't work with anything and daughter can watch TV in her room. This means less stuff messing up the living room.
I don't know about you lovelies but now I am through the big stuff - clothes, books, paper etc, it is the little things mainly unfinished jobs that are getting done. I put 2 pictures up on the wall on the landing. This was after I had moved the dead shower screen and 2 old wardrobe doors- now waiting to go to the tip.
Sorry about long post - just feeling successful.:TDe cluttering Konvert.Getting there

Hi all,
Well 3 weeks ago I kondoed a baby out of my belly. He's a little gem but likes to sleep all day and stay awake all night.
We have been given tons of baby clothes as gifts and I've already taken loads back to the shops in exchange for vouchers. Some of the stuff was summery but won't fit til the winter etc. will be very mindful of what I'm buying the wee one. His drawers are fairly tidy but I've been relying on my mum to help with washing and ironing over the last few weeks because I've been so sleep deprived!
Hopefully over the coming weeks I will get more organised and can do some more kondoing.
I was able to kondo my maternity clothes upon my return home from the hospital and that brought me great joy!
I've got three weeks of catching up to do, which I will do over coming days while breastfeeding the little one.
Weesmiler xx
