    Morning all.
Left the pile of DVDs sitting in the hall (just to remind DH how much space 'extras' take up) while we were out last night I mentioned that it was strange some I know he's wouldn't have given away are missing so there must be some more elsewhere. He then recalled putting another large plastic crate of DVDs under the TV storage shelving! So I have more to search for today. I know I've sort of gone off on a tangent with DVDs at the mo and I'm still supposed to be doing paperwork but I think you'll agree that the space the DVD collection takes up is emmense so if I can help Dh along the way it will be a massive section of kondoing that he can do when he's ready. I've resigned myself to loosing this week doing the prep work for him on this section because he honestly wouldn't have the patience to even make a start so by weeding the duplicates I'm at least letting him have a bit of clearance and he may be persuaded to let some of the 'one watchers' go.

Have a good day all I'll be popping in during the day when I need a break from DVD shuffling.

  • These recent threads have inspired me to book my present from DH and D sis for my recent big birthday - a colour consultation! I have very few clothes but am not sure what colours really suit me as my hair turns greyer!!! Have ventured into a few different ones - to my normal grey black and navy recently. So to save money in future I am just about to book my present!! Wish me luck!!!

I too need to carry on kondoing and will do so at the weekend - too busy now!!

The book has arrived for me at the library and is now sat on my bedside table ... I've been lurking here for weeks and really enjoyed reading about your Kondo escapades. So why am I so reluctant to start reading the book?

I know that until DS starts nursery in Oct for 2 days a week i don't realistically have any time to do it properly, I currently struggle just to keep the house in a basic clean state let alone any of the monthly jobs that need doing.

Perhaps I should try to read the book but I feel a little resentful that I will lose my 30 mins of reading time before bed. This is the only time I get to myself as a SAHM with 2 small children. Maybe I need to buy the book and read it when I'm in the height frame of mind. Any thoughts anyone?

Give it a try for one or two nights - don't commit yourself to anything more than that. You may find that the magic of the book draws you in and that you WANT to devote your reading tme to this book, not another one. From there you'll move forward in the MK way at your own pace. If it doesn't resonate after two 30 minute reading sessions then return it to the library and try again another time later in the year . x

Further pondering has made me realise that I'm a little reluctant to start as the first port of call is clothes, as a SAHM I live in jeans and t-shirts. I was hugely happy to get into my 2011 pre children jeans a few weeks ago but then 2 of my 3 pairs died as the denim was so worn thin they split on the inside leg.

I feel that if I Kondo my clothes I will be left with literally the clothes I stand up in and I don't have the money to buy more. I'm rarely lucky in the CS and I loath trying to by clothes with children in tow - so will have to wait until Oct to go out in my own.

Does anyone have any insights on this? I'd like to start and achieve a kondo'd life / home etc but feel myself procrastinating :(

Colours that suit you go with your skin tone rather than your hair colour. If you already suit black, grey & navy then you will probably look good in the strong colours - royal blue, hot pinks, fuchsia, strong blue toned reds. The best thing to do is to try a colour you don't generally wear - if it makes you look 'washed out' avoid it. Years ago there was a book called 'Colour Me Beautiful' & there is good sound advice there on body shapes too. It does take a lot of the hassle out when buying clothes as once you find your colour range everything in your wardrobe matches or tones and you can still shop the CS!

PS: Kondo'd two leftover pieces of worktop on Freecycle - good lengths but DH was not keeping them JIC!

    Morning Konverts :D
Nice to see so many readers/kondoers coming out of lurkdom :D Welcome to the bumpy road of MK ;)

I have also kondoed 2 husbands but the one I have now does bring me a lot of joy so I am lucky.I have kondoed people out of my life and the only regret is not having done it years ago :rotfl:People I cant kondo (family) for example. I keep at arms length and dont get involved in any small chat if I can avoid it :D Also hiding if they knock on the door helps :rotfl:That was a joke but I have been known to do that when I am busy.

This process of stripping down belongings leaves you wide open to look inside yourself and you are somehow compelled to deal with past and present all in one go. The comfort blanket of (stuff) has gone and its like you are in an open space with no cover at all.So you are either picked off by preditors or you outsmart them.

Thats what I feel I have done I am always one step ahead as I no longer have that guilty feeling of I really should like that person and making excuses for them as we have been friends a long time or family :( as no I dont have to like that person might have to tolerate them but I have no attachment at all :)

When we start this process we think of it as a major declutter but it really isnt in any shape or form. Its a hard and rocky road but when you get there I am sure it will be worth all the blood sweat and tears as I did have a lot of those moments ;)

I am not the same person I have changed which is why I am having so many problems with clothes as they are so personal to you. Unlike other things which are shared by everyone in the household.

I think I know who I am now or hoping I do but I am struggling with clothes as I dont want to make a mistake and end up being that women who I was but I am not anymore :)

iTwin just for you I may just keep a pair of jeans so you dont have to imagine me sitting at the keyboard with my T-shirt and jumper and jacket on :rotfl:and nothing else ! :rotfl:

I know now that I would rather have one expensive item that filled me with joy everytime I looked at it rather than 5 that were a bit joyful :rotfl:But thats really all I know :) Advice very welcome before I chuck the bl**dy lot which is coming closer by the day :D

    Morning all,

Have been trying to catch up on this thread...can't say I've read every post but have scanned most of it!

I bought the book (electronic version!) after seeing this thread a few months back and have now started clearing my belongings!

Clothes were done Monday - 3 large boxes, two large ikea bags and several bin bags of clothes are off to the charity shop today! However I don't think my fianc! embraced this as much as I did - he's definitely got far more clothes than me now! I even cleared enough that we can get rid of a chest of drawers!

My next task is books, which I thought was going to be the hardest part for me but now I can't wait to get started!

If it wasn't for this thread I would have never started this! Thank you all!!

    Hi All,

Haven't posted in a long time but wanted to respond to this post.

The KonMarie system suggests you start with clothes because they are 'usually' one of the easier items to let go. From your post obviously this is not the case in your situation. I would be inclined to skip the clothes categories and start with some other category that you would be able to fit around your little ones, possibly toiletries, books or kitchenware. The main thing is to try to do a complete category at once. If this means splitting toiletries into smaller sub categories in order to fit it into your available time then so be it. You will still get there albeit at a slower pace than some.

In my case OH and I started some time ago and we managed to do clothes, books, paperwork and the kitchen (including food) but then real life got in the way and we stalled. Although most things have stayed clear and tidy we really need to start from scratch again as we are both finding clothes that no longer bring joy.

Today is the restart of KonMarie :j

Good luck Icey you will get there in the end

Mavymoo - with you there! A piece that brings you great Joy is worth whatever it costs. About 10 years ago I treated myself to a very smart (and expensive!) Italian leather and suede jacket. It is worn regularly still as its a very simple style and I love it. I've worked out that if I divide the cost by the amount of wearings its been peanuts!
Perhaps if you get all the clothes you have that you really love together maybe a common thread/style will emerge?
