The KonMarie method

I am pretty good at storing categories together. Most things have homes but when they get full I then create an overspill area:o.
So, for example, I keep my toiletries and make up in the bathroom cupboard but have a drawer in my bedroom for extra smellies mostly that I've been given as gifts (I suppose I could call that a sub category;)). I won't throw them away (unless they're the sort of gift you wouldn't want to keep:eek:) which is where :money: and KonMarie come head to head I suppose. So I'll tidy the bathroom cupboard and if that creates space then the bedroom items can move in! I know it's not the official way but I do know where they're all kept.
I read a bit more this afternoon and just had to actually do some tidying.
I went through a drawer where various papers are kept that I'm responsible for (DH has his filed away in the study). So my car now has it's full service history all in order in a folder. Expired insurance documents for home, buildings and car have gone and current ones easily accessible. I've discovered that I didn't put travel insurance away after last holiday so that's tracked down and returned. And a big pile of papers (flyers etc.) gone in the recycling.
Thanks for the kind welcome and advice:).0 -
Hope everyone is well
Welcome maman and any other new konverts I've missed
Just been had had the most joyful relaxing pedicure a proper one from a foot person with files and scalpels not a paint job if you know what I mean. I feel like I'm walking on air now and not a bit of hard skin or rough nail to be seen. I will definitely go again.
I know the DVDs aren't my domain but I've not kondoed any I've just tidied and sorted. I can see why Marie says put all like things together before you start I didn't actually do that but I got all of them out of one cupboard the other cupboard I tackled a couple of yeRs ago and typed lists up of what should have been in there plus I could see the bookcases in the lounge and hall from where I was working. Dh has a vast collection and buys regularly at the carboot sometimes he'll buy them "we possibly have it buy its a great film and it's so cheap I can give it away if it turns. Out we have it" or we can't find a film we think we have so he'll buy it again. So how many doubles (and sometimes triples) have I found during today's filmfest? that's right 68!!!!! No wonder our house is full to the Gill with stuff.
DH did have the good grace to look embarrassed At lunchtime when he saw the stack of DVDs I'll set aside, he took a few into work this afternoon to give away. The a more racks upstairs so I haven't finished yet. Then of course there's the whole do we actually want to watch all of the ones we have left and how long will it take to work through them all......
Won't be watching any tong hit that's for sure because I'm going to be taking my lovely hubby out for a meal, even if he's got the worst DVD hoarding tendencies of anyone, he still brings me emense joy even after 32 years so he's definitely a keeper.
Have a good evening all
I'm just off to clear the settee of DVDsSPC~12 ot 124

Welcome to the party, maman - it often is a party on here! Ditto Welcome
I knew you would feel the same, iTwin!
We get our clothes down to what we consider a reasonable amount, but keep getting drawn back. Probably, we need to just adjust our style a bit? Have you noticed that many women either stop developing their style when they first get married or when they hit middle-age (whenever that is - I'm stll twenty-something, in my head!)? In the old days, they became fixed there - remember the thin black pencilled eyebrows, black/ginger dyed hair and white winkle pickers... on 70 year-olds? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:YepI do remember sadly.Mostly they were sitting at the bar in the most grotty pub in the area .Trying to blag Brandy and Babychams off bus and taxi drivers that were in the pub between shifts
Today, women don't tend to remain totally fixed with their 'just married' style, but looking around, many get totally 'lost' style-wise, after they become mummies!
I was thinking pastel-coloured jeans - the ones I really can't get away with, yet! I have pastel coloured and do love a bit of OrangeOr, you may prefer the floaty, patterned, wide leg trousers that are currently popular. No dont like them as they seem to swamp me sadly I like the 'control' of jeans but risk breaking my neck, tripping in wide-leg things -I like bootleg or skinny leg they suit me best poor old soul, that I am! You are as young as you feel
BTW, the Mr M bruises are fading rainbows now, and the colours are bringing me joy!:rotfl:See I told you they would look pretty
Glad you are improving.
Have a browse on various fashion styles on P!nterest and find how your style might need tweaking - you may come up with some ideas for the 'missing pieces'?
I would also say I dress youngish but am aware of not looking like 'What ever happened to baby Jane' :rotfl:Which I think about if I think any thing looks a bit young for me.
Good news on the clothes revisit :rotfl:
Another 47 :eek: Items gone this afternoon and for the first time in history I have far less than my DH :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Who has been told in no uncertain terms he must re-visit his stuff;)
Including 23 T-shirts which no longer sparked an interest let alone joy :rotfl:
DH has just said that the T-shirt he is wearing doesnt bring him and joy and he will charity shop itBut his stripey socks bring him loads of joy
So he is getting there.
If I now put something on and I have one doubt about it in anyway it will be gone and I will be starting from scratch as well iTwin
If you think you have done clothes Think again ! You have been warned

I have one of those t-shirts mav! Just yesterday, DH looked at me and said "you wear that a lot" :rotfl:
My style is a bit stuck at the moment. I'm too old to get away with what I was wearing in my 20s but too young to go for the middle aged look either. And there doesn't seem to be that much for in the middle, that isn't boring corporate wear which is SO not me. I did manage to find a beautiful tunic in Debenhams today, so maybe I'll just join iQueen and be a fabulous boho, regardless of whether it's appropriate0 -
Oh June I am so pleased to hear that its not just me
Mine is back folded and filed in the drawer and I am going to try not to wear it tommorow
Maybe thats the route I should try boho or the way I am kondoing clothes I will be hobo rather than boho :rotfl:
iTwin I need that link now this minute please :rotfl::rotfl:As I feel like kondoing everything I have got  and am very very tempted apart from my Black T-shirt my 2 leather jackets and my very joyful Cashmere Jaeger stripey jumper ;)that cost £3 :rotfl:The rest can go :rotfl:
And thats all I have to say on this matterI am sooooooo tempted to kondo the lot and s*d the expense

Congratulations, Weesmiler! when my dd's were newborns I had a small cardboard box next to the dressing table. Any clothes that were too small were immediately put in that box, and, once full, labelled for size and stored in the attic. It kept the flow going.
Whenever I kondo (it's my natural way of clearing up) I find that I 'ban' items from certain parts of the house, but they may not have a new home yet. I put the items out of the way, in temporary accomodation, and let the problem stew in the back of my mind. Then, out of nowhere, I will suddenly know what would be the perfect place for that item.
For instance, today dh and I cleared the garage. All 'house' items were banned from the garage and are now in my kitchen cupboard. They are not in the way, and when I have time and energy, I will put them in their proper place, or find a proper place for them. Patience and trusting my subconscious are a big part of clearing and filing for me.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -

You had me giggling again, iTwin! :rotfl:
I don't know about you starting from scratch... just remember to keep something to wear to the chazzer, when you start gap-filling! Otherwise, you'll be sitting at the computer, looking for eBargains, in the buff!
BTW, was the larger font for the benefit of your poor old iTwin? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Needs, NOT wants!

Everyone's too young to go for 'the middle-aged look'! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Forget young/old, fat/thin, apple/pear: just go for what makes you feel happy, and brings you joy! You ain't gonna look like Baby Jane - you've far too much good taste (you're on here!)
Seriously, I quite fancy the Mad Boho Look, but
a) can't find those amazing clothes in chazzers round here - at least not any larger than size 8!
b) my kids would probably cause me a load of grief, fighting their attempts to get me certified!
The Boho boards that I've looked at range from a cool white shirt, with jeans/leggings and heels/flats, to completely barmy and more cluttered than my house! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Off to get my tea!Needs, NOT wants!

If a tee sparks joy but has gone baggy round the bottom, run some elastic through the bottom hem and turn it into a 'bubble top'.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0
