The KonMarie method

Hi all,
Well 3 weeks ago I kondoed a baby out of my belly. He's a little gem but likes to sleep all day and stay awake all night.
We have been given tons of baby clothes as gifts and I've already taken loads back to the shops in exchange for vouchers. Some of the stuff was summery but won't fit til the winter etc. will be very mindful of what I'm buying the wee one. His drawers are fairly tidy but I've been relying on my mum to help with washing and ironing over the last few weeks because I've been so sleep deprived!
Hopefully over the coming weeks I will get more organised and can do some more kondoing.
I was able to kondo my maternity clothes upon my return home from the hospital and that brought me great joy!
I've got three weeks of catching up to do, which I will do over coming days while breastfeeding the little one.

I have done my clothes and books, but unable to move onto the other things at the moment.
My mum died and I am emptying a large 3 bed house but I am using the KM method.
I am refusing to bring anything back to my house unless I find it sparks joy, and surprisingly there is very little that does. I am enjoying the memories that things give but then saying goodbye to them and sending them on their way.
Previously I would have felt "obliged " to bring something like her favourite cut glass vase back here, because its a good vase/worth some money/will appreciate in value etc etc
Now I am content for it to go.
Thank you Marie Kondo.0 -
Congratulations, weesmiler and what a great start to life with your new baby to know you'll be keeping things simple and focusing on spending time with him rather than being in clutter!
Debsnewbudget, I wish I'd understood MK when I cleared my parents' house - so much stuff that I hung on to because I wasn't sure if I wanted it or not. It's hard because it's an emotional time but as you say, it's the memories, not the things. good luck with the clearance.
I've plateaued again but I'm quite happy with that, I know when the moment is right I will push on.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
First real day of the holidays and I spent it ...............in work!! Can gets lots done and sorted when the 'mad frogs' are not there
Kondoed some stuff left behind by a supply teacher who 'gifted' it.............non of it suitable so I have binned/recycled it. I have brought home a large bag of stuff to take to recycle centre - its staying in the boot and not coming in the house along with a bin bag of 'lost items' nobody is claiming and they will be going to CS tomorrow. I have some paperwork/admin/report writing to do ready for Sept and as soon as that is done I will back on the kondo mill with gusto
In the meantime I will do odd items I see as I go along and chuck in already bulging CS from things I K-swiped over the weekend

Congratulations weesmiler on the birth of your little one.
Ive just spent over an hour trying to give one of my dogs a hair cut. Most of that time was taken fiddling around with the hair cutting clippers before i decided i'd had enough and would rather take my chances by giving a trim with the scissors.
What a waste of money those clippers were... they are now in the bin. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
