  • I have more wardrobe space than drawer space, and also a lot of my clothes are fairly formal for work purposes and so wouldn't really fold very well. I have underwear, nightwear and socks in drawers, and also my cardigans, neatly rolled, and my enormous collection of pashmina/scarves. I still hang up t-shirts - the wardrobes would be empty otherwise and as they are built-in, there's no option of Kondoing them! I also hang fleeces and shirts, although I only have a couple of those.

I haven't found things get creased, if they are rolled fairly firmly they seem to be ok. It's an absolute godsend for the scarves, I used to have them on hangers in the wardrobe and they were always falling off or getting tangled up. I'd been researching special scarf storage hangers before I discovered MK!

I have two drawers in the wardrobe full of my wool stash :o and at the moment, two empty drawers in the CoD - I think I may relegate jeans to one of those rather than hanging them.

I am so pleased because things that formerly used to get in the way like my onesie (essential for winter evenings in a cold house) and some specialist hobby clothing are now hung up rather than lurking in the big wardrobe drawer. I could definitely dispose of some more clothes but I'm waiting till I've finished other categories before I go back, as at the moment it all fits in ok.

Karen and Ivyleaf, yes, I agree, I also am finding it difficult to deal with folding/rolling some items.
i find smaller items like undies are fine, nightwear also fine.
am ok with t-shirts being rolled
BUT I can't cope with bulky fleeces, jumpers and leggings. They are just too bulky to fit comfortably into drawers. I've sorted and folded mine a few weeks ago but have already moved them to different drawers once and am still not happy they have found the right place! :(
    any suggestions welcome.

Use MK's 'folding and filing' method for suitable items - usually fine-knit items - tees, light sweaters, jersey trousers, leggings and dresses, which do not easily crease. Bulky items are often better hung, along with outerwear - coats, jackets, plus tailored suits, cotton dresses, floaty items etc.

'Folding and filing' is very useful for making full use of the height in drawers, leaving more, clear horizontal space.

Ultimately, its about finding what works most usefully for the storage you have.
    ;)

This komono was tackled because i got the toolkit out to try and fix the patio cleaner head for our Karch**. ...I do like mending things and on the basis that if it's already
broken I can't make it any worse, I happily tackle mini projects. :D

Don't limit yourself to mini-DIY! Challenges are good for increasing confidence and self-esteem. ;)

When my washing-machine drum stopped revolving, I diagnosed the problem with advice from helpful Internet pros, bought a set of appropriate carbon brushes for a tenner off eBay, and replaced the worn out ones... voila! Saved £80 + 'parts'. :T

iTwin just a spring chicken then really :) My friend has told me loads of stuff and always says 'Dont ever tell the kids that as they would be morified ' :rotfl:She has 3 kids the eldest being 6 years older than me and the youngest 6 months older than me :D They are just lucky to have a Mum who is so much younger than her years.

She has given me such good advice over the years. I am very grateful we met walking our dogs when they were both puppies and she wrote her phone number in the dirt on my car :rotfl:As we had made an impact on each other and both knew we would be great friends :)

GQ I love watching the Geese fly over we get loads here. My sense of direction is so bad I never know if they are flying in or out. So I always wish them a safe journey just incase they have 1000s of miles to go. If you stand and watch them for a long time its team work at is best. As the ones at the back who are having a bit of a rest will fly to the front to take over the lead and the front ones will slow down and join the back for their rest :)They are amazing and also fly at night which I find  just wish I had thier sense of direction as you cant get better :)

5 hours kondo'ed yesterday cleaning the chooks out as it was a big clean. house all scrubbed with old fashioned scrubbing brush you cant beat the old ways :D Broodys shut out for hours while it was drying and loads of 'Chunter' from them as they told me off for shutting them out ;) Not letting them have chicks as there is enough caged hens looking for homes so would prefer to home them than breeding my own chicks :D

Will revisit T-shirts today as I am really not joyful about them :( Folding is hard to start but does get easier and you do get to know where you have to fold so it doesnt crease. I have long T-shirts hanging as they do get creased. Thin jumpers I have folded but big thick jumpers I have in the loft :rotfl:as dont need them at the moment and will work on that one once they are in use again.

I fold T-shirts like they do in the posh shops but smaller and then slot them in like a load of standing up CDs and in colour order going from Black at the back to White at the front.:) Took me ages to get quick at it as I dont think I am a natural folder (if there is such a thing)

Glad the word 'chunter' is used in other parts of the country I had never heard it until I moved here. Never heard it said in Essex ;)

Loading up the boot with bags for the chazzzer :T

Mostly stuff from DD that she has grown smaller than, or doesn't like, doesn't suit, plus myriads of books and dvd's. Plus the five tops I kondoedd yesterday, before I change my mind ;). Don't think I will, had a bit of a LBM this morning when getting dressed. "Why can't I find anything I want to wear?"

A " because it's all in the laundry"
Q " but it didn't all come on holiday - the work stuff didn't, so where is it"
A "in the laundry, ironing pile or stuff to be put away"
    Q"so why haven't I done that"
A "You didn't feel a need to as you have so much other stuff"
"But I don't like the other stuff......"

Good morning everyone. Nothing happening very fast around here, done all I am doing to clothes etc until the change of seasons (which I hope won't happen for ages and ages:D). My bedroom is a tip, full of komono, I have made a tentative start on the magazines and periodicals, which are only kept in 2 places. I cannot trust my memory to yield up stuff that I have read and could use at some point (when to prune my honeysuckles or when to take cuttings of this or that, so have kept lots of Gardener's World mags, but I suppose that everything I might need is just an Internet search away. They do bring me joy, but storage is a nightmare and I am not going to purchase special storage, so a quick re-read and out they must go. Then my priorities for now will be general bedroom sorting and back to Kondoing the weeds in my garden. Please wave any spare energy in this direction, after a busy social few days mine is a bit low:(

We also chunter (or sometimes chunner) here in Shropshire too:D

One more pair of undies out and some more papers into recycling/shredded over the weekend. Not a lot, but it was better than nothing at all.

Paperwork is my biggest category so once this is done I should feel a lot better about progress, but there is still so much of it!

As many others have mentioned, I am now thinking that my clothes need a second look even though I am removing the odd item or two as I come across them. I still have more than my storage space can cope with and whilst I have many things which spark joy, I am struggling to pair them with other items to create an outfit - a bit of a lesson in how not to shop there I think!

So, guess what my Kondo plan is for this week? Yep, more paperwork...

Well done Oceanspirit, something is always better than nothing :)

Catching up on the forum took a wee while - it moves faster than a speeding bullet!
Best wishes for health to GQ's mum and iQ.
Mavvymoo, your phone adventures have kept me well entertained whilst catching up!
Hello to all the new folks - hope you're enjoying the journey.

I am still on paperwork - I've been doing it in short blasts and I have a box for shredding and a box for recycling set up near permanently it seems.
I hope to do some more this evening and then clear two bags of recycling to the bins downstairs.
I will have to go through my clothes again soon - close to 2 stone lost and some clothes are getting a bit silly. I have to wear a belt with my jeans to keep them up! I do have a couple of pairs that were too small so I need to try these and see if they fit. If they do then the big jeans will be thanked and removed.
When I did my wardrobe earlier this year I kept a few items in the hope that I would be able to resurrect them and I'm so pleased that I'll be able to wear them again soon. There are two skirts and a dress that I particularly love and couldn't bear to part with when I first did my wardrobe (in spite of clearing a lot more out). I'm pleased I didn't get rid of these items and that I've kept to my healthy eating so that they'll soon be in regular circulation in my wardrobe.
    Have a great week everyone.

Afternoon all, finally caught up with the chat. Some very inspiring posts. We've been busy the last few weeks, kondoing clothes, cuddly toys etc from the boys bedroom as we're getting new furniture next week. Hubby is finishing off the decoration today.
Not read the book yet, so just going off what I've read on forums etc, going to working on boxes of bits and bobs in our bedroom so I can access the cupboards and drawers adequately

And then I will steel myself to get the downstairs ones done!
