Morning! :coffee: Soooo much to catch up on!
One more pair of undies out and some more papers into recycling/shredded over the weekend. Not a lot, but it was better than nothing at all.

Every little helps as Socrates (or was it Mr T?) said! :rotfl:

Paperwork is my biggest category so once this is done I should feel a lot better about progress, but there is still so much of it!

My biggest kondo definitely! I shall have most of my home back, when I get that category done! :D

As many others have mentioned, I am now thinking that my clothes need a second look even though I am removing the odd item or two as I come across them. I still have more than my storage space can cope with and whilst I have many things which spark joy, I am struggling to pair them with other items to create an outfit - a bit of a lesson in how not to shop there I think!

I've found that kondoing has changed my personal mindset, to such an extent that I didn't know who I am now! That makes clothes a really difficult category. I have now discovered my current style, and know what I'm aiming for, wardrobe-wise. I'm starting to build up from scratch! :)

Well done Oceanspirit, something is always better than nothing :)

Best wishes for health to GQ's mum and iQ. Thank you, allybee.

I will have to go through my clothes again soon...

Congratulations on the weight-loss! isn't it great discovering clothes that we expected to dump are now the right size, and can bring us joy again? :rotfl:
Been away for the weekend as I kondoed another birthday on Friday, took two wetsuit with us to donate to a seaside CS, read two books while away and left one at the hotel. Took four big bags and a box of books down the local CS this morning. Been out for a walk and a meal with Dh as its our wedding anni tomorrow went into town but didn't want anything ended up buying two books from the Cs for our summer hols but they will go back as soon as they are read.

Best wishes, mrs-mp. I hope your joyful celebrations have fired you up, to live the joy, daily! :T

    Hi all,

Well 3 weeks ago I kondoed a baby out of my belly. He's a little gem but likes to sleep all day and stay awake all night.

We have been given tons of baby clothes as gifts and I've already taken loads back to the shops in exchange for vouchers. Some of the stuff was summery but won't fit til the winter etc. will be very mindful of what I'm buying the wee one. His drawers are fairly tidy but I've been relying on my mum to help with washing and ironing over the last few weeks because I've been so sleep deprived!

Hopefully over the coming weeks I will get more organised and can do some more kondoing.

I was able to kondo my maternity clothes upon my return home from the hospital and that brought me great joy!

I've got three weeks of catching up to do, which I will do over coming days while breastfeeding the little one.

    Weesmiler xx

Congratulations on the birth of your Ds!

Great idea with the vouchers - should keep him clothed for longer than the gifts would have... very MSE! :D

With my five, I found it was easier to 'work nights' (!) and sleep when they did! :rotfl:

I also, slept with them for the first couple of months, so they had snacks, constantly on tap! Much less tiring for me and none lost any of their birth weight. :)

Strange concept that - that babies will lose their birth-weight and have to recover it... humans are the only mammals that don't allow their young to feed on demand 24/7. :undecided :(

Sorry, folks. I'm really not trying to turn this thread into a personal blog! Catching up with the posts, triggers so many ideas! :o

Me too :( I am going to re-visit clothes as I said before but havent got round to it yet:D I still have too much and some with no partners to go with :(I think its that I wear jeans nearly all the time and I have loads to go with them but in the summer you want to wear something summery and NOT the dreaded jeans again

Of course, I have the same problem, iTwin, as we might expect! I'm thinking, coloured jeans, for the summer, when my child-bearing hips have shrunk some more?

I am going to make a list of things that I am missing and also what colours and stick it in my bag so when I am on my chazzer shop rounds will look at my list :)Well thats the plan anyway.

Does anyone else have the same problem as me and just always pick out the same clothes over and over again. Its like you are drawn to the same old stuff (which does bring you joy) I have a Black TShirt which the minute its dry and off the line its back on me,and its almost like oh how did that get back on me :rotfl:Then I am cross with myself as I think cant you find anything else to bl**dy wear :rotfl: But I would love the same one in loads of colours then I could have a wardrobe of about 6 Tshirts only and be very joyful about it ;)

In fact going outside now to check my T which is on the bl**dy line again  and see what make it is and check out E*ay :rotfl:

Your earlier post about skipping along the shore-line, in your floaty dress, hair flowing, got me thinking.

I'm very conscious that kondoing has completely [STRIKE]xxxxxx[/STRIKE] messed up my head... in a good way! Focussing intently on items that bring joy, has made me turn that focus onto everything in my life, as you and others have noticed, too. Examining myself, my thinking, relations to others, my life in general etc, etc, and discarding Stuff that only related to the past me, has helped me to see who I am NOW, and who I still want to be.

This maybe why we find clothes constantly recalling us to the category.

I have some current admin to attend to, then I'm going back to clothes.

Yesterday, I re-visited that link about a minimal wardrobe (can't find the link on here, just now, but have it bookmarked.)

Looking at the outfits on there, I identified that I am, and always have been, Boho, in a fairly restrained way. Looking on P1nterest, I found gloriously exuberant Boho Older Women type boards. YES! That is me, NOW. And I'm going for it! I don't care about my age, my shape, my size, or what other people think! I am going to build a wardrobe of clothes that only bring me JOY!

So, after the necessary admin, I am going to empty my wardrobe and drawers, again.

Clothes are a vital part of showing the world who we are. So, I'm going to pick out ONLY the half a dozen garments that bring me so much joy that I never want to part with them. (Of course, they will eventually wear out, but I'll deal with that when it happens! ;))

I shall add in whatever other, slightly less joyful, ones I need for decency's sake. :rotfl: Then, I shall look out for the rest of my wardrobe in Chazzers or eBay, until every item brings me the full complement of joy.

No wonder I keep getting drawn back to my clothes - I'm not that woman any more!

FYI, I may not be quite so daring as many of the boho women on P*nterest, but I will be me.

NB Kondoing will not allow me to go for cluttered Boho, you'll be glad to know! :rotfl:

Hope no one minds me arriving late at the party.:)

I ordered the KonMarie book from the library and it arrived yesterday. So far I've just read a couple of chapters.

I've also lurked on here and YouTube for a while and I've Kondoed my drawers of jumpers and tops, my underwear and my scarves. All have stayed in perfect order in the months since I did them.

Now that it's the end of term I'm likely to have a bit more time.

In the book she says it's essential to have a mass tidy up all at once and I shouldn't have focused on specific locations. What's the general view on that?

    Hi
My general view on that depends what mood I'm in.. Sometimes I'm like, 'yes, this is the way forward' other times I'm more, 'but now I'm doing clothes the rest of the room looks a mess- pans it's much more apparent now the clothes are done.' So I'm a bit torn really. Part of me thinks it's logical and I'm partly spurred on to get the rest done so that it's all tidy and organised and part of me thinks if I do it a room at a time it makes it more bite size, manageable chunks but then I seem to go over things more than I need to. Hoping that makes sense...

    Welcome maman!

Realised this morning that I hadn't "done" the shoes lurking in the bottom of my wardrobe.

Two pairs of shoes, two pairs of sandals and a bag Kondoed to the hospice shop :j Footwear that was barely worn, so I'd hung on to it, but all uncomfortable for my feet now, so no point keeping any longer. The bag was pewter-coloured faux leather with a "gold" chain shoulder strap. Actually much nicer than it sounds, but it's "evening-y" and I just don't use it.

Now I have to lug the hoover upstairs to clean the bottom of the wardrobe :(

in general, I think the point she makes of gathering things together in categories and then deciding what to keep, is what makes this work. When I realised exactly how many bars of soap I'd got, for example, it was easy to donate most of them.

However, some things are too big - there's no way I could get all my books in one place without several hours of heavy lifting! So I did those genre by genre. Also some areas - in my case the under-stairs cupboard *shudder* and under the sink - were just full of random stuff and much easier to deal with as a discrete task.

You'll see above that some of us deal with the things that are annoying us most. We all take from this what works for us, so don't worry if you stray off-piste. The most important thing is the 'joy' question - it's when I lose sight of that, that I find I'm keeping things for the wrong reason.
Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.

Welcome to the party, maman - it often is a party on here! :rotfl::coffee:

Generally, everyone starts off with clothes, per MK.

This is easy and can be broken down into bite-size chunks depending on time and interruptions.

When we start, we are whatever we are.

As we move on through the categories, many tend to re-visit clothes, because of the woo factor - we are changing ourselves and thinking, as well as our homes!

Most feel it necessary to 'do' the bedroom, where most clothes are kept - it seems a natural progression, as well as providing a welcome sanctuary, while the rest of the house can become cluttered with Stuff being sorted, and sacks/boxes to go.

Sticking to categories (which can be broken down into as many sub-categories as necessary) hones our decision-making, speeding it up and developing our confidence.

Doing 'rooms' has 'built-in disaster', because we can't focus properly: we are constantly distracted by all the random stuff and so we end up overwhelmed - like plate-spinning.

By concentrating on one task (category, or even cleaning the windows), we can maintain focus and get it done. We don't lose motivation, because each category is a limited, defined task. Sorting a room is many tasks.

The MK method works, because each category motivates us for the next, whereas 'rooms' just wear us out till we give up!

Most of us find ourselves going on excursions... we suddenly need to tackle a particular cupboard, the shoes in the hall, the kitchenalia, or just that damned vase that his mother gave us! Don't worry - just do it. Then get back to the MK list! :D

    Good luck!

I knew you would feel the same, iTwin!

We get our clothes down to what we consider a reasonable amount, but keep getting drawn back. Probably, we need to just adjust our style a bit? Have you noticed that many women either stop developing their style when they first get married or when they hit middle-age (whenever that is - I'm stll twenty-something, in my head!)? In the old days, they became fixed there - remember the thin black pencilled eyebrows, black/ginger dyed hair and white winkle pickers... on 70 year-olds? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Today, women don't tend to remain totally fixed with their 'just married' style, but looking around, many get totally 'lost' style-wise, after they become mummies!

I was thinking pastel-coloured jeans - the ones I really can't get away with, yet! Or, you may prefer the floaty, patterned, wide leg trousers that are currently popular. I like the 'control' of jeans but risk breaking my neck, tripping in wide-leg things - poor old soul, that I am! BTW, the Mr M bruises are fading rainbows now, and the colours are bringing me joy!:rotfl:

Have a browse on various fashion styles on P!nterest and find how your style might need tweaking - you may come up with some ideas for the 'missing pieces'? ;)
