bossymoo, greent and everyone who is drowning in toys!

Toy rotation - depending on the level of toys, divide into 2-4 sets and place 1-3 in the loft, changing the set each 2-3 months.

Too many toys, make it difficult for children to sustain interest and concentrate - too much choice is distracting. Imaginative creativity is born of having to stretch the possibilities. :D

I didn't say that I was drowning in toys - just Lego! :D My 9yo's room consists of books (100s of them - an avid reader), pens, paper, glue, scissors, some board games and Lego - his imagination is not limited by the Lego - he creates so many things from his imagination using lego. He rarely keeps a set built as per the instructions, instead dismantling it and using it to create imaginative pieces. He often does craft activity homework in Lego.

Personally I'm not - and have never been - a fan of toy rotation, although I appreciate it works for others. :D Pehaps my children just don't have as much of an excess of toys as others? I handed down from number 1 to 4 and culled duplicates and often asked for money (for their bank accounts)/ clothes for the youngest 2 as they had plenty of toys from numbers 1 & 2 :D:D When all 4 were of a toy/equipment age the house seemed to have stuff everywhere but toys and books nowadays are mainly confined to their bedrooms, other than 1 box of things in the playroom/ den/ family room (multipurpose, depending which age of person is using it!) (ooh - forgot theoutdoor/ beach/ garden toys which are stored in a chest in the garage):D

You will be drowning in it for years yet.... It doesn't get any better as they get older...... Even my 15yo likes some lego (mincraft mini sets and the (expensive!) architecture pieces):D :D

My 29 year old still has his Lego Technic Space Shuttle - and still dismantles it just to rebuild it every now and then. Luckily its in his home and not mine, so no fear of Lego under bare feet!

A couple of observations from my Kondo journey:

    - I was going to mend some of the dogs' toys until I gathered them all together from all over the house and realised just how many toys they have: there are only two of them but they have what turned out to be a big big basketful. So no mending, and some less-suitable ones to be donated to a local dogs rescue. :T

    - having done my clothes some time ago, I was able to get dressed and blinged-up for a trip to the theatre in just 15 minutes thanks to KonMarie-tidy wardrobe and drawers! Even better, there were no heaps of rejected clothes strewn over the bed when I came home. :T

I now have five and a half bin-bags of shredded paperwork, and still masses to work through. Arrrrghhhhhhh! I'm sure it breeds inside the folders.

Books are family, but some of them are presenting themselves to my mind as wanting to move on, so when I can get to the shelves for all the boxes of papers and general komono in front of them I'll process their divorces :rotfl:

Kondo'ed an old mascara, my last one, as I never wear it (can't stand the feeling of it on my lashes). I also decided to stop buying moisturiser for my face and use my handcream instead: so far I haven't frightened any small children (or horses :rotfl:) and the wrinkle-count is unchanged.

I find tidying by gathering all the things of the same sort together (rather than working room-by-room) one sees the amount of stuff (like dog toys!) in stock and the power of finding the joy-spark is on full strength.

    Hi Konverts
iTwin are you sure you do not have a long lost sister ? Lurking about on these forums :rotfl:How uncanny that you feel the same about driving as I did :o
Well all I can say is I really didnt worry about it at all didnt even think about it beforehand at all  Just got in the car and did it without even caring about it at all :rotfl:And whats more had a right laugh about my friend hanging on to the door handle as we went round corners at the last minute as I had nearly missed the turning :) Where as before it would have made me even more panicky and worried ;)

I cant find addresses either iTwin I had to go and pick something up once and in the end parked outside the village at the village hall and walked miles to find the house in the dark :rotfl:Which was better than driving to try and find the house :D(and it was raining )

Well had my sleep and didnt wake up till 11.45am :rotfl:So the storm took its toll but it was fantastic to watch :)

GreyQueen I used to do that when I had patio doors I ran out and chucked a load of washing up liquid over them when it was raining hard :) Always worked well for me ;)

Glad everyone is getting on ok with the kondo clear and you will get there. When I got a way though it.I would find myself being pulled to the next area which was quite odd but worked for me. Go with your gut instinct I would say when you get to the komono and odds and sods.

DHs back from Wales everything sorted and all put where it should be :) So easy to do that now thanks to kondo :D

Haven't had a chance to Kondo anything today and am missing it too much. I did a bulk shop today (which involved several shops to get the right things rather than charging through the supermarket, grabbing everything in sight!) Managed to come home with only necessary items: bulk items like rice and specialist items like coconut oil (as it's a fraction of the price in the cash & carry where I get the rice.) Anyway, the point is that I didn't just buy a load of rubbish just for the sake of it. Not even in the Pound shop!! Even went to my favourite charity shops and, out of half a dozen shops I bought one set of cereal bowls - totally necessary and, as they're covered in big jazzy poppies, they definitely sparked joy!
So - having got the shopping bug out of my system, tomorrow I re-start Kondoing - wish me luck!
    Looking ahead

Well that's me finally finished Kondoing my clothes. This has included my shoes, bags and also toiletries as the first few drawers in my chest of drawers was full of toiletries.

Tomorrow afternoon I plan to do a sort of 'spring clean' of my bedroom by pulling the bed out and hovering under it; washing windows etc.

This has taken me a few days but I have noticed a major change in the way I am thinking about clothes. In the book Marie Kondo talked about a client of hers who wanted to declutter to feel more feminine. With me I want to feel more creative. It's been so much easier getting dressed each morning with this in mind, not to mention the fact that there is much less clothes in there now - it's like I can now see the wood for the trees.

I will start on books on Sunday probably but I have so many all over the house it will take me a while to get them sorted.

My 7 weeks of summer starts here...........so thats 7 weeks to finish kondoing my house. I have promised myself that this would be the last holiday I spend clearing clutter.............I am am a bit under pressure though as I had hoped to be much further on. After the initial blast I had dropped off my schedule mainly due to a bout of illness and work commitments............but I determined to get back on track:)
