Ooops! Bit more woo, mav! Just seen your post after mrs-moneypenny's! :rotfl:
Started to catch up with reading the posts and had to answer mrs-moneypenny. So, iTwin, you and I were on the same plane, yet again!Needs, NOT wants!

I think you've hit on a really key point there, iQueen and it's one that didn't register with me at first. Once you've Kondoed it, get it out of the house, not because you'll be tempted to take stuff back out of the bags, but you're not seeing the real benefit until it's gone. It was having my spare room full of stuff that made me feel I was getting nowhere. If you are saving it for eBay/boot sale - don't, either do it NOW (there's sure to be a boot sale on this weekend somewhere near you) or bite the bullet and accept that you're never going to get round to it.
When I could see the spare room floor for the first time in years, I really felt I was getting somewhere. Welcome allie23, you're already feeling the joy!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Fellow kondo'ers how do you store boots - especially long ones? I have lots of shoe cabinets that are all full with much loves shoes but struggle what to do with boots that don't fit. They were all shoved in a pile but I want something to put them in. Similar for mens ankle boots (e.g. cats or timberlands) that don't fit in the shoe drawers.
I want them to be as nice as everything else in the house - currently they are a blight on my kondo clean houseIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Re unjoyful toiletries etc
...you can repurpose some items (I'm of the opinion that soap is soap is soap in the main) so shampoo can become shower gel if it's not nice on your hair (or I used a small bottle of apple shampoo as washing up liquid), unjoyful smelling shower gel (for me that's ocean type scents) can be handwash - or I've even used them in the washing machine for clothes washing (small amounts only and I add them to a mug of water to ensure they are diluted ok) IT all helps to use it up and keep costs down. And if you have some fancy brands of stuff which you won't use, check out the prices on ebay - you could sell it and perhaps replace with cheaper yet more joyful stuff which you will use - and may even make a few £ extra along the way x
Bathroom toiletries (detergents!) that don't bring joy for the usual purposes, often make great bathroom cleaners - shampoo removes greasy residue (of course! :rotfl:) Carp toothpaste gently polishes things (jewellery etc) and should work on mild lime-scale - it's also antiseptic.
I know someone with 'posh' handwash dispensers, who always fills them with budget washing-up liquid - it kills bacteria. I use cheap hair conditioner on the wool that I spin, and hand-dye.Well another joyful day had by me and doing something I did find most unjoyful before kondo.
I had to take a friend to hospital...
But today I was so calm and just did it and didnt care
Had to share as the difference in me today was nothing short of amazing and it can only be down to one thing (and we know what that is ) So Wooo is all I can say

You're right, supersaver, this is becoming supernatural!
iTwin, I could have put my name to your hospital drive, without a single change! (Wooooooooooooooo!) That's exactly me - volunteer to drive somewhere, and then worry myself silly trying to think of a plausible excuse to back out, quell the anxiety, and then live with the guilt! Delays/traffic jams don't bother me a jot - (better late, than never), but the mere thought of frantic urban traffic... (Motorways? Love'em!)
A few years ago, I was house-sitting for someone, in a city that I am familiar with getting to, but had only visited the house once (and then had to ring for someone to come out and guide me!) This second time, after 150 miles, I got lost on a large housing estate, and spent 1.5 hours, trying to find the 2 mile route to the house, with map book and street map! :doh:all over the sandwiches I'd packed!
I drove outside the county for my friends' Civil Partnership 2 weeks ago, for the first time in 3 years... 9 miles up the road!
It took reading your post to show me that nothing should be spoiling my serenity, at all! :TNeeds, NOT wants!

I think I've reached the tipping point in my bedroom
well , reached it yesterday. I woke up this morning and rolled over , and grinned when I saw all the clear space. Wooo indeed
I have to be very careful with my energy levels, but it's very encouraging.:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -

I stand mine up in my wardrobe with inflatable boot trees from Eb@y onside them, to keep them nice.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Thanks floss, I don't have any space in the wardrobe now as there are shelves in the bottom and overflow stuff now neatly stored in them. Kondo as my enemy and friend lol. Inflatable boot trees sound interesting though - off to look them up...If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

I'm sure this has been done to death in over 250 pages, but given most of us don't live in one room, what order do you tackle the rest of the house in?
Clothes, books, paperwork, komono, sentimental items and photos. At what point do you tackle cleaning products, kitchen gibble, toys and games, DIY stuff?
Kitchen stuff is probably a big one for me...Bossymoo

I haven't finished tackling clothes yet.
I have already tackled some of my extensive book collection.
I've just done the cutlery storage and got a carrier bag full of stuff to go.
I'm getting annoyed with the amount of toiletries/cleaning products I have, so they are being tackled this afternoon. I'm hoping to finish sorting the clothes today too.
Completely wrong-according to the book, but I will feel better when these things are done. I will then endeavour to follow the right order-as written in the bible of order and joy.GE 36 *MFD may 2043
