So prioritise in order of descending annoyance:D? Lol
I think a lot of us have gone with that method, bossy! - and then gone back to the book (although I've only half done paper and will have to return to it in the hols)

Fellow kondo'ers how do you store boots - especially long ones? I have lots of shoe cabinets that are all full with much loves shoes but struggle what to do with boots that don't fit. They were all shoved in a pile but I want something to put them in. Similar for mens ankle boots (e.g. cats or timberlands) that don't fit in the shoe drawers.
I want them to be as nice as everything else in the house - currently they are a blight on my kondo clean house0 -
That's exactly what I'm doing, starting with the most annoying. I'm mixing in some easy wins too as it helps with motivation:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0

well , reached it yesterday. I woke up this morning and rolled over , and grinned when I saw all the clear space. Wooo indeed
I have to be very careful with my energy levels, but it's very encouraging.
Congratulations, dragonette! :T
I've not reached that point yet - still got a load of 'maybe' clothes in there, one medium box of (kitchen ) komono, and a bedside table (actually an empty Lloyd Loom laundry bin, complete with original plate glass top ).
I think I'll make an 'appointment' to do an off-load run on Monday, and take my own advice.
ps I'm a defective FlyLady, too - nothing like a bit of apparent authority, to make me dig my heels in and refuse to budge... it's an automatic reflex! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:I'm sure this has been done to death in over 250 pages, but given most of us don't live in one room, what order do you tackle the rest of the house in?
Clothes, books, paperwork, komono, sentimental items and photos. At what point do you tackle cleaning products, kitchen gibble, toys and games, DIY stuff?
Kitchen stuff is probably a big one for me...
Most Konverts, 'do' their bedroom at the same time, or straight after, kondoing their clothes. That's usually the largest amount of kondoing in there.
More importantly, it is good to have a tranquil room to retreat to and sleep in, at the end of the day - sets us up for whatever tomorrow is planning for us!It also helps to persistently gnaw away at our clutter-tolerance, as we emerge from a tranquil, organised, spacious bedroom, to the carp still outside it! :rotfl:
In most people's homes, the majority of stuff in the following categories might be spread around anywhere, which makes it hard to kondo 'by room'. It also distracts, our focus. Much better to get everything in one place to kondo. If this isn't an option, because of lack of space/time, then break the category into sub-categories, and collect each sub-c into one place for kondoing.
The kitchen is often dealt with as 'a room', because most utensils, ingredients, and equipment is in the one room.
It's a good idea to stick to the list - clothes, books, paperwork, because this concentration motivates, increases focus and hones decision-making. However, the 'annoyance factor' often interrupts, for odd moments... we see something, go in a drawer/cupboard, and we just can't stand the clutter any longer! Or, we notice one item that we've been completely blind to for years, and it has to go, NOW.
The great thing about categories is, that done properly, we don't have to do rooms - at the end, everything will have a home and be in it via kondoing! :jNeeds, NOT wants!

Brill, thanks.
Was just looking for craft stuff in the dresser drawer - kiddies have a scrapbooking project this summer - and came across some miscellaneous papers - some dating back to 2006 before we even moved to this house. A quick squish through each page told me I needed none of them. They've been put in a tub ready to take to work on Monday - they can go in the confidential waste... It will be a bit less to tackle when I come to do the rest of my papers - which I'm actually not too bad with - I only really have one concertina file and a few odds and sods lying around. Books also - had a massive cull in my decluttering frenzy after DH died. The children have lots of books, mostly stuff we still read (they are both still learning really), but I got rid of loads of grown up ones to the hospice bookshop.

You will be drowning in it for years yet.... It doesn't get any better as they get older...... Even my 15yo likes some lego (mincraft mini sets and the (expensive!) architecture pieces):D

I have two 'boot boxes' from B&M that hold one pair each (handy as I have 2 pairs of boots post Kondo-ing!) They fit onto a shelf in the wardrobe.
Can't see them on the B&M site atm, but the shoe version looks like this:I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
bossymoo, greent and everyone who is drowning in toys!
Toy rotation - depending on the level of toys, divide into 2-4 sets and place 1-3 in the loft, changing the set each 2-3 months.
Too many toys, make it difficult for children to sustain interest and concentrate - too much choice is distracting. Imaginative creativity is born of having to stretch the possibilities.Needs, NOT wants!

Oh, I am not quite there, yet, several niggles still niggling.
Today, before even leaving the flat, I discovered that the top I was a bit iffy about is a no-no, so have put that aside for the chazzer bag. I also pulled out another summer top, which was a hand-me-down from Mum and turned out to be very joyful, so pleased with that. This was one of a couple of summery things handed over in the winter so, apart from trying them to see if they'd fit, I haven't worn them.
Then I went to get hold of my rucksack and discovered that the Carte D'0r ice-cream tub, only a few weeks old, had a defective lid and had shed blackcurrants into the bag (I picked these yesterday evening).
How annoying, I will have to de-fruit and launder the bag now and wash and get that traitorous ice cream tub washed and into the recycing.
I also dug out my flipflops and found I still have some old tights lurking in a bag in the airing cupboard. Just when you think you're pure, RL proves otherwise.:rotfl:
Onwards and upwards, my lovelies.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
