    Morning all

Paid stuff getting in the way of much kondoing, yesterday a pair of knickers with lose elastic got rag bagged and I sorted out the 'manuals' in the kitchen drawer disgarding half, having read one and realising that the blender sticks could have gone in the DW all these years.

Mavvymoo, very well done to you. I am not as far down the line but was invited to one of those paint pottery evening this week and declined as I don't want another random item in my house.

Having sorted out my craft stuff I am now enjoying using it.
I have finally finished a machine patchwork quilt which is looking good on the spare bed.
I am busy making birthday cards to be donated to the chapel birthday scheme, and whilst doing that I am pondering exactly what to do with a selection of lovely fabric samples (Cath K, etc) - I love my bits of fabric!
    Happy, happy :)

I goggled it of course and that seemed the most likely explanation ;)

Morning, just picked my online shop up from the supermarket and whilst unloading the car decided to clear out the glove box, and then my door, and then the boot! Not really a category but is now looking better, which is good as it is being serviced next week. Probably still a few things could go out of it, it is only little! Decided I really don't need all the large fabric shopping bags which take up half the boot, being in Wales good to have one with me but don't think I need 10, especially as I get my shopping delivered or collect it.
Should now go and do some paid work but km is more appealing so am thinking will do stationery for an hour or so.

This sounds so much like something I'd do....I read it out to DH to show him I'm not the only one - he made a quip about it probably being fermented enough to be drinkable by now then went on to wonder about fig wine and went off looking for recipes....bless him!
I discussed it with OH too and we were wondering if we actually knew what 'fig' was supposed to smell like - it doesn't smell like a fresh fig nor a fig roll (yep, we had one to compare). It has gone now, bottle cleaned and put in the recycling.
I replaced it on the shelf with a full bottle of Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia bath stuff which I was 'saving for best'. And that got me thinking, sometimes my 'best' baths are the ones that I sneak in the middle of the day after a particularly chilling dog walk, or just to have a little relax. Or maybe they could all be 'best baths' if I loved the stuff I poured in them. Anyway, I resolutely opened the seal on the bottle as I put it on the shelf and it will be used.
And this morning, I chucked out the shower gel that OH bought and hated, DS1 used once and hated, and I used up despite hating it because it wasn't very MSE to just chuck it. There was only a squeeze left in it, so I cleaned the shower floor with it and sent it on its way. Replaced that with a full 1L bottle of delicious Lavander Savon de Marseille (regular TKMaxx bargain bought with survey vouchers) which fills me with joy as its already scenting the en suite. Little changes but happy ones.

That's a coincidence, I was talking to DD about the Female Eunach ( we were looking at Kondoing her F-me shoes :rotfl:) the other day. I recommended she read it, as a feminist it is surely a must (although Ms Greer herself has now said some of the ideas are a bit too much).

Germaine did have some extreme ideas that didn't appeal to me! ;)

My copy of the book is buried in The Room of Doom, boxed from when I moved to this area in 1986! Sadly, if it had ever been unpacked my 3 girls might have got to read it. Well, they are strong Alpha females, so maybe I did something right as a Mum? :undecided

Bedroom will be glossed tonight, wardrobe painted and waxed tomorrow ready to move DS in. Hopefully we will reduce the volume of his stuff as we go. There is going to be a book case shuffle as we do that - as I have freed up one.

The shuffle will involve discarding some recipe books. I know these hav been discussed before but I had my own LBM about them the other day. Some of these are donkeys years old (why is it "donkeys" years???), habits change, tastes change, I have changed, I don't have to keep hold of them all "just in case" - just in case of what? I get a sudden urge to flamb! a banana or make a chocolate pizza? :rotfl: even if I do I am sure there's plenty of recipes around on t'internet and that ain't going anywhere. I will keep the "read for pleasure" books - Delia, Nigella, Jamie, Hugh etc as I really do get joy fromo them, but many of the others can go. I type fast so I will go through and type up the odd one or two much loved recipes from them and keep on my laptop - I copy and paste recipes from here into a file anyway.

I was brought up with this phrase, and was told that it is because donkeys live a very long time!

The hardest one is the very scruffy hand written book, or where I've cut out and lasted stuff from magazines. But the truth is that I still only make about 6 dishes from there. I got much joy out of the anticipation of those recipes at the time,, but I probably have never made most of them. It is time to thank it and let it go.

Half a dozen of my cookery books are my favourites: inherited from my late mother and grandmother. They are the ones that I use most, they don't harp on about so-called 'healthy eating etc', they are a boon in tight financial times, and they chime well with my 'eat real food, cooking from scratch' ethos! Even with their broken spines, and splattered pages - they are going nowhere! :rotfl:

    I reckon that will clear a shelf..:T

I am finished but lucky for me I have never been a hoarder and did de-clutter quite often never like this to be fair :eek:So was most likely a bit ahead of some lovely Konverts here :)
When I start something I just want it done and out of the way so went at it pretty fast :rotfl:Sometimes DH couldnt keep up with the bin bags that were chucked his way to take out.

You are my hero, and I realise that my home is far more cluttered than yours, but I'm definitely getting inspiration from your single-minded focus! Thanks, Mav. :A

Still need to clean some areas as the minimal minimal minimal;)look Does show up any imperfections but it looks so much nicer and so bright.
As Grey Queen said you really dont want to buy anything and I have lost complete interest in 'things' in shops.Do not want to bring any clutter in.

My plan is now to paint a chair that I need in the bedroom and the new to me drawer unit in the lounge needed (not for storage) just to balance up the room.

I am really enjoying the new way of life and am finding the time to do things I never did before. I read a book I have had for about a year and finished it and its been donated already.

Will revisit clothes as I still have too many and do a third cull.

Also will jump on to the flylady thread and see if that works for me will have to read it carefully as I know it works for a lot of people and it should be miles easier for me now :)
Keep going all you will get there at some point

    Mav x

Mav, I tried the Fly Lady method, years ago when she first started, but she didn't do anything for me - too regimented! :o

I think she is good for people who do not know how to clean and organise their time. I started out as a chambermaid in 'posh' hotels, so I can clean, on the other hand I don't take to being preached at! :( And rigid routines automatically cause me to rebel: I shall never be 'shining' my sink every night! :rotfl:

Ha Ha! My car is empty, except for an umbrella, and has been since the children grew up and left home! :T

Also in Wales! I carry one of those fold-up snap-fastened bags in my handbag, for emergency use - thin, flat, strong and takes very little space. I have another 3 in my regular shopping tote. Love them! ;)

I've also got a thick hessian one, which is strong, but not foldable, and far too bulky! Hmm, think that might have to join my containers for using in kondo storage... Ah! wrapping paper can be sored in it!

My Mum recently had a really nasty brain haemorrhage (not that you get nice ones...) and following surgery she was in a London hospital for 8 weeks, she's now home and recovery is slow and steady. She's having a lot of cognitive issues and goes from the past to the present to the down right bizarre in seconds, all normal for the type of brain mauling they had to do to stop the bleed.....in between one of those "rationally I know my parents are dead but I think they need a cup of tea as they must be very thirsty sitting in the airport for so long" conversations and a very strange "the faceless man with blue pyjamas has 8 cold hands" she asked my why I had a basket for my ironing.....I was waiting for a really strange conversation but she turned and said - "if you have a basket to put the ironing in, you have a home for the basket to live, and if it's got a home, as soon as you place it there, it becomes invisible"......and she's right, I often ignored the ironing basket full to the brim of clothes as it was shoved in the cupboard....I had to move it to get the hoover out but I still ignored it.....So I ditched it - I now iron as it comes in off the line and it goes straight on a hanger and into the appropriate room.

There's sense in the old girl yet :)

That's a brilliant insight Pooky. Not sure I'm quite ready to Kondo mine yet - not that it gives me any joy, but OH often puts the washing on in herculean spurts so there will be 4 or 5 loads done in quick succession, but he's more reticent about the ironing. But I do see her point and must resolve getting him to only putstuff that needs ironing in it, rather than everything that came off the line.
Glad to hear that she's recovering.

I do hope your Mum makes a good recovery. How confusing for her, if she says something disjointed, but doesn't realise it.

I need my laundry basket to cart grubby stuff downstairs to the machine and clean stuff back up. BUT, I do not need the second basket, (I can only just manage to carry the one, so the second can go! ;)
