Did cookery books and the bookcase shuffle
Have typed up 10 recipes, ditched about the same number of books plus loads of magazines and pull outs. Three shelves now condensed to two and a bookcase removed from a lounge, never to be replaced :T
OH sorted some of his railway books which were on the same shelfI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Feeling the overwhelm this evening - sewing stuff EVERYWHERE and struggling to see the wood for the trees! I'm worried I won't be able to get rid of enough. My office seems to be MORE cluttered now, because I am getting stuff into piles (keep, discard, pile for recycling) and although I'm doing ok with getting stuff out of the house, it doesn't feel any less cluttered right now.
I'm also struggling with a few larger / more valuable items I feel I should ebay, not because I want the money but for environmental reasons I feel guilty if they don't get reused. I'm not convinced charity shop would want / take them, but I can't bear the idea of them going to landfill. HOwever - and this is the real problem - I'm working really hard with work deadlines right now and don't have time to ebay them, so they're sitting around cluttering up the place!0 -
Morning all.
Been feeling rather wan so kondo'd myself off to bed before 9 pm last night and now feel a bit brighter. Today is the last working day of this week for me and I hope to get back in control of the homestead, as I have been too tired to do much.
sushistar, is it possible to talk to your intended charity shop(s) and ask if they think they can sell these items? Perhaps drop in with photos on your phone and ask to speak to the manager? I've also had success with freegling items which chazzers wouldn't have wanted, such a a non-working printer advertised as for spare-or-repair, which had people after it like mad. Just a thought, anyway.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

If you don't care about getting any money, how about freegle or facebook free, for sale, wanted pages? It's amazing what goes on there!x

My daughter sent me this article http://www.stylist.co.uk/life/how-a-tidying-up-book-transformed-the-way-i-live-de-cluttering-tidying-up-guru-marie-kondo-lifestyle .
I don't know if she will be converted but if she is I know her OH will be like mine, totally oblivious and determined to hold on to as much stuff as possible!0 -
Sushistar I feel your pain - yesterday I had to take urgent action in the spare room as I couldn't get to the shelf for something I needed. I keep putting off doing fabric, sewing stuff etc but I realised yesterday that I have THREE empty drawers in the bedroom so I'm hoping I can start sorting some of it into there.
I have decided that I need to completely discard each category before I start the next one, including getting the stuff out of the house. People like Mavvymoo make me want to get on with it faster but I don't think I have that capacity! I'm so envious - will I ever have the whole house done?
I agree, if you don't want money for the large items then Freegle, Freecycle, eBay or Streetlife will find them a home, furniture nearly always goes.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -

I wear them doing housework (my less fave ones get used when I'm cleaning the bathroom in case of bleach splashes!), when I'm cooking and my fave ones I wear when baking. Tbh I put one on as soon as I'm dressed in case I spill make up on me or breakfast!
Perhaps I'm just a mucky pup! :rotfl:
If you knocked on my front door, I'd say you've a 90% chance of me opening the door wearing my apron!
Clutterfree-love your drawer,I am inspired and will do that today.Like you I always wear an apron over my clothes ,it saves an awful lot of tidy clothing.
Will have to do the drawer as I managed to kondo the paper shredder with overuse a few days ago :rotfl:-was sorting out my late DH paperwork.
It is a year since DH died and I was hanging on to paperwork in case I had an official request . About 6 months ago I remembered an insurance policy, phoned ,sent in a letter-good result.
Still off work but not really fit enough to do much yet, though did manage to see a solicitor yesterday and discussed probable forthcoming compensation(from accident causing me to be off work). Also talked about a will and power of attorney,to make life easier for my'children' -not planning on going anywhere yet but after having the accident it makes you realise how quickly things change.
Central heating boiler stopped working the other day,I phoned several heating engineers-one said he would call in 6 weeks!!-I read the instruction book and sorted it.As the airing cupboard is now empty that will be kondoed before going back in.
Have a good day all

Sushi star, I took a big bag of fabric off cuts that re too small to make garments with but too big to throw away down to my local high school they have an art and textile dept and run a shabby chic club after school where students make brooches, cushions etc too sell for school funds. In the primary I work at the reception class have recently been doing the 3 bears and made bands from cardboard boxes with fabric glued on for blankets. If you ring schools in your local area I'm sure some would be delighted to take some of the surplus stash from you and you would be giving someone else the opputinity to learn to love crafting.
I've put things on freecycle that I didn't think the CSs would want and they've all gone.SPC~12 ot 124
