I agree - categories are all very well for stuff that is out in the open, but the under-sink, under-stairs, box room or spare room gloryholes have to be tackled on their own. Good luck, joeyjimbles!

Everything I read on here makes me feel so much better about my own discoveries, e.g. silver polish (3 different sorts) and around 20 cleaning cloths. I suppose that if I'd already Kondoed I would have known where the silver polish was and wouldn't have gone and bought some more. Twice. I can't account for the unused special (and entirely useless) gadget for cleaning Venetian blinds, though! I haven't had Venetian blinds since I moved nine years ago ...

Good luck everyone, I quickly looked at papers yesterday and moved some to drawers which will make future filing easier, but I think when I did that category a few weeks ago I did ok, and am happy to move on. Next is CDs and DVDs, they are already in folders and am tempted not to bother as they don't take up much room, but I feel I need to do things properly, then I can tick it off and KNOW it is complete! Think a lot of things give off negative energy and even though they may be tidy the vibes are still there.....well we will see if I feel more positive towards that cupboard once I am done:)
  • Yesterday I took advantage of the unintended shifting of bookcases in the loft to release the parts of a cabin bed that had been imprisoned there for 25 years.

Instead of relocating them to the garage to join the othef one that is coming to the end of its 5 year tenancy, I persuaded DH to put them straight into the car and to the recycling centre.

This has brought me great joy if only a little space as it was all stacked vertically. The bookcases will go back with the photos to await their rightful place in the queue.

Out of order kondoing can bring its own rewards as other posters have found.

Thank you all. I have been upstairs and done a quick sweep and unearthed many cardboard boxes that are now expectantly against a wall waiting for the [STRIKE]discarded rubbish[/STRIKE] erm items of undiscovered future joy for someone else. Oddly, this has made me feel better about it already, now if the courier would just come and take this parcel I could get started properly - don't they know I have joy to send out into the world?

I have nearly finished paperwork but bth luckily i did not find it difficult as I am only 29 and have had my house 5 years so there is not much. Plus all my banking is online.

I now have a box file (the small one you just stack it in rather than expanding) with my house and mortgage docs. I am also going to put instruction manuals in there for things which i feel I might refer to (ripping out the English section). I'm stapling the receipts to the manuals then will have one wallet with other recipes which need to be kept. Then I have one ring binder with the most recent bill for things like council tax, all my gas safety stuff, have kept all hmrc stuff for past few years etc..

I do mystery shopping for a bit of income and used to do a lot so had a photocopy paper box in the cupboard which I put all my assignments in as they need to be kept in case of queries and for tax purposes. At the end of the tax year the box goes in the loft and I get a new one. As I do so little now I think a box file will suffice so will get another and store on bookshelf freeing up space in the cupboard.

I really need to get cracking as the cupboard are driving me crazy with stuff everywhere and difficult to find what I want.

Just kondo'd a 6 bottle wine rack as it was annoying me in kitchen whilst making brekkie. It was rammed in a space under the counter with pan rack but I only drink spirits so they tended to get dusty. Decided to stick it in a cupboard where the rest if the drinks are and as I put it in the bottles slipped out the back and I couldn't believe how little room they took up stood up as opposed to on the rack so it's gone now! :)

Off work today so if I have time I will read the book then make a start on second category which I believe is books :)

    :) Morning all.

I have been decluttering my bookmarks list by deleting some and collating others into folders. Much easier to find things in there now. I have a terrible habit of hoarding bookmarks for anything which I think is interesting/ will interest me in the future.

I've come to the conclusion that there aren't enough hours in the day for things which interest me, and there's a constant in-flow of interesting stuff, so this is a futile way of holding onto some things.

VJsMum, like the bracelet, very nice, you must be so pleased. Ditto, VJsMum! :)

Virtual bookmarks - absolute proof that 'stuff increases to fill the space available'! :(

I need to get more RL stuff cleared out, before I tackle my bookmarks - at least they aren't underfoot!:rotfl:
Ok, Konverts, wish me luck. Today I start on the room of doom. Yes, I know that this goes against all the categorisation advice of our dimunitive leader however I have no idea what is even in there to have gathered items with their friends. So it will be a little konmari microcosm all of its own.
Knowing that the binmen come tomorrow, and that little has come out of the room in the last few months (years?), it is likely that recycling, chazzers and rag bags are about to become very full very quickly. If I'm not seen for a bit, will you come and look for me, please?

We will send out a search party, if you are not back by midnight! ;)

I have 3 rooms of varying Doom - the living room seriously cluttered over the past 5 years; the boxroom ditto over 10 years; and the front room... (whispers) ever since I moved in 26 years ago! :o

The front room is going to be left till last, as my reward for doing the rest of the house... no idea what's in there: it will be a voyage of discarding and joyful discovery! :j

I think you are right to go through them - even if you only find one for chucking (or none!) You will have closure on that category.

I am still being slowed down by my clothes category: although I have been through them at least 3 times, I am not happy with what I've kept. And it keeps nagging me.

Marie said to allow up to 6 months so don't worry it's not a race.

I've told hubby that it took years and years for me to accumulate all this stuff so it's going to take time to sort it.

Thank you clutterfree, very supportive :j - I am feeling better today. I had a sense of it being never-ending yesterday, but I WILL get there. So far the family has been approving, but reluctant to actually join in!

Today I have had delivery of a new chest of drawers (one of those tall thin ones with 6 drawers) which is going in my little office (don't worry, we're kondoing a bookshelf that was there before and is now nearly empty!).

I am going to use it for all my sewing and textile stuff, yarn etc. I will allow myself 1 box of fabric in the loft (for bigger pieces that I love), but all the fat quarters and everything else will go in these drawers. I think having just one place will be good as I will be able to see what I have (it's in about 5 different places around the house now!) and actually use it when I'm feeling crafty or need to sew on a button. Having one place will also help me declutter as I will not be able to constantly spill over into other boxes and spare corners!

I'm really excited to sort it all - I've been looking forward to this job. :)

However, working on the 'joy' principle, my home will (eventually) only hold my most joyful things, and they will show people why I'm truly happy. :j

This is so lovely iQueen; I would say I AM truly happy in my life, I am blessed with good health and family and friends and a job I love, and I want my house to catch up! Also, the only times I get unhappy are when I feel overwhelmed (by physical stuff or by my to-do list) and I'm really sure that having konmaried my home will help with avoiding overwhelm!

    Been investigating Amazon trade-in.
The different prices they offer really do seem a bit random.
Am trying very hard not to remember just how much I paid originally for some of them.

Well, just had my gift card from my trade in at Amazon. Four items were reassessed and upgraded ... Obviously I have high standards as my good is their like new! Got a few more pence for things than expected.

Craftyscholar in an earlier post I was opened up to the idea of you can't think about what you paid, think about the pleasure you have had and then how much the item really did cost once you take way VAT etc. i know with ebay, cash for clothes and car boots I am now over £100 letting things go that I won't miss, no longer use etc. this will be fab as I can use the money!

I have only touched the surface yet as I am reading the book whilst we finish dd room as her stuff is all in my room.i can then move things around and then I will have space to do my KD. Reading on here I want an area that I can collect the items into and due to real life sometimes getting in the way, can work on in my free time. I find I tend to have three pileswhilst doing dd room. Yes, no and don't know. No get moved asap so not tempted to rescue things. Then look again at yes pile again to check. The don't know pile is hardest. It's changing my mindset of 'this might come in handy' even though it might have been there for six years untouched!
Don’t put it down - put it away!
