Wow, mavvymoo, well done for that!
I had a LBM yesterday. I have been keeping my cotton hankies in a multi-pocket hanging thingy on the back of the boiler cupboard door (beside the airing cupboard, warm dry place off the hall).
Due to a terrible cold, it looks like I will be cycling through the entire hankie collection so have been using the opportunity creatively. Have put the freshly-laundered and ironed ones to the side, culling a couple of holey numbers as I went, and have decided to re-purpose the pockety thing for some of the stuff which clutters up the undersink cupboard and makes it such a nuisance.
Have now got my ranger-rolled microfibre clothes in there, the shoe cleaning stuff (in a sandwich bag to protect the pockety thing from polish) and several other small bits of misc hanging neatly and accessibly. Feeling pretty chuffed.
There are even 2 empty pockets in it, but I shall allow nature to take its course and something will decide it should live in there.
Haven't decided where I shall home the hankies but I am confident in the wonder of KM and that their perfect home will present itself.
Have also chosen July's book for our book group and it's one on my to-read shelf, so I shall have to read it and then it can be released.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I have a terrible habit of hoarding bookmarks for anything which I think is interesting/ will interest me in the future.
I am a bit like that with P!nterest.....lose hours there:Dcan someone explain why i have still kept that, when I haven't used it in 15 years?
Because it really is a very nasty pong..........now everything has blimmin feb reeze in it and I HATE IT:mad:Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Got home last night:) And glad to be home but a little disappointed that clutter that is 'not mine' still littering the place:mad: OH hasn't been sleeping whilst I have been in hospital and DD2 very immersed in exams so maybe I was asking too much?? I also thought 'well now you know how hard it is to run a home, hold down a FT job, and take on the declutter project!!!!'
Anyway..........just had a quite day at home re assessing the situation and tomorrow I will make a slow start AGAIN:D I have given myself until the end of August to complete this project so that is now about 15 weeks - 8 of them I will be more or less at home FT ( not sure if we will get away in August yet) so I am still hopeful I will reach the goal:)Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Finding a new home under all the STUFF!0 -
Have seen this book popping up on a few different sites lately and I've been decluttering so hope it could help accelerate the process. As I'm trying not to buy any books until I've read all the ones I have I wasn't sure then realised that getting it from the library is perfect - no purchase, so no broken rules plus it's money saving. Thanks for starting the post - it's good to get new ideas here.
I've not bought books for over a year, (to prevent my library from growing even bigger!) but I read about MK on the Net at Christmas, and was so inspired that I invested in the book.
It is the most life-changing book, since I read The Female Eunuch in the early 70s! :TWow mavvymoo, I am doing well but can't imagine being finished. Am not thinking about the attic and sheds yet!! The accessories you listed iqueen were what I was thinking, I don't really have any of those so can move on. What I am going to do is write a list of my komono because like you say it is different for everyone. DVDs and CDs done today, think cross stitch supplies will be next, used to do loads but haven't for a few years. It will be similar to books, quite difficult. I spent a long time enjoying them and buying supplies, since I was 14, Such a rebellious teen! Even though they are tidy and all in one drawer they are playing on my mind, funny the way inanimate objects give off vibes. Pens are callng out to me too, will do them soon:)
Basically, komono is everything else in your home, that has not been listed!
I've had a blissful couple of days, mainly doing my cross stitch goodies, but later on, I still have to do knitting (including a stash that somehow materialised!) sewing stuff, art stuff, and spinning fibres! Apart from some of the knitting stash nothing is likely to be discarded from my hobbies, as that is what will be occupying me post-Kondo... especially my spinning wheel. I might even get back to my weight-training! :jNeeds, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

Thank you, of course you are right. It will go today. :T

That's a coincidence, I was talking to DD about the Female Eunach ( we were looking at Kondoing her F-me shoes :rotfl:) the other day. I recommended she read it, as a feminist it is surely a must (although Ms Greer herself has now said some of the ideas are a bit too much).
Bedroom will be glossed tonight, wardrobe painted and waxed tomorrow ready to move DS in. Hopefully we will reduce the volume of his stuff as we go. There is going to be a book case shuffle as we do that - as I have freed up one.
The shuffle will involve discarding some recipe books. I know these hav been discussed before but I had my own LBM about them the other day. Some of these are donkeys years old (why is it "donkeys" years???), habits change, tastes change, I have changed, I don't have to keep hold of them all "just in case" - just in case of what? I get a sudden urge to flamb! a banana or make a chocolate pizza? :rotfl: even if I do I am sure there's plenty of recipes around on t'internet and that ain't going anywhere. I will keep the "read for pleasure" books - Delia, Nigella, Jamie, Hugh etc as I really do get joy fromo them, but many of the others can go. I type fast so I will go through and type up the odd one or two much loved recipes from them and keep on my laptop - I copy and paste recipes from here into a file anyway.
The hardest one is the very scruffy hand written book, or where I've cut out and lasted stuff from magazines. But the truth is that I still only make about 6 dishes from there. I got much joy out of the anticipation of those recipes at the time,, but I probably have never made most of them. It is time to thank it and let it go.
I reckon that will clear a shelf..:TI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

I've just moved to Spain and in process of turning a holiday home into a home. Not a lot of storage space for the 73 boxes that are arriving in a few days  _pale_. 4 of those are extra storage - 2 narrow cupboards and 2 kitchen shelves - so am sure they will hold most of it. In the calm before the storm I have kondo's my 4 small kitchen drawers and 2 dresser drawers. Batteries are expensive out here so I used to bring some out with me. Located in 3 different places and let's just say I probably didn't need to pack the ones that are on their way
. All chargers are in a box, along with other 'IT stuff'. Needed to use the little paperclip thingy today to change SIM card. Opened up drawer, went in charger box and there it was :T. How clever was that
. Sort of magic really

This sounds so much like something I'd do....I read it out to DH to show him I'm not the only one - he made a quip about it probably being fermented enough to be drinkable by now then went on to wonder about fig wine and went off looking for recipes....bless him!
I've had a fantastic week (and it's only Wednesday) with CS's - I've been having real undecided dilemmas about what's left in my wardrobe, some items I've had for donkeys of years (no idea why the donkeys are so old VJ's). They're past their best but comfy and "will do" so they passed the 1st and 2nd cull but thanks to finding 5 new tops this week that are far more me, far newer (4/5 still having tags on) and them all sparking far more joy than anything else in the wardrobe, I grabbed them. DH found shirts that he liked too, 4 came in and 7 went out!!! Along with a few bits for DD2 a pair of trousers that fit like a dream and a handbag in the exact colour I'd been searching for, for 2/3 years, we totalled we'd spent £31.50 on 14 items that retailed (just the ones with tags on) for £285!! That gives me so much joy. The resulting black bag of stuff from the wardrobe that's not survived the 3rd cull will be added to the other pile for the bootfair.
I can now see that in order for me to be able to get this right I do need to spend some money where it matters - I've tried the "chuck it out" approach but on some items it's just not working. Some need replacing rather than outright discarding and it's ok, I'm allowed to do that. (who'd have thunk it!!!)"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Morning all
Hope everyone is well.
Not really kondoing but I gave away 3 bottles of nail varnish that didn't bring me joy and threw away a bra that A. Stabbed me under the arm & B. Detached its wire in the washer and nearly got stuck behind the drum! Thankfully I heard the noise and paused the machine I could just see tip of wire sticking out so managed to avert major damage.SPC~12 ot 124

I am finished but lucky for me I have never been a hoarder and did de-clutter quite often never like this to be fair :eek:So was most likely a bit ahead of some lovely Konverts here
When I start something I just want it done and out of the way so went at it pretty fast :rotfl:Sometimes DH couldnt keep up with the bin bags that were chucked his way to take out.
Still need to clean some areas as the minimal minimal minimal;)look Does show up any imperfections but it looks so much nicer and so bright.
As Grey Queen said you really dont want to buy anything and I have lost complete interest in 'things' in shops.Do not want to bring any clutter in.
My plan is now to paint a chair that I need in the bedroom and the new to me drawer unit in the lounge needed (not for storage) just to balance up the room.
I am really enjoying the new way of life and am finding the time to do things I never did before. I read a book I have had for about a year and finished it and its been donated already.
Will revisit clothes as I still have too many and do a third cull.
Also will jump on to the flylady thread and see if that works for me will have to read it carefully as I know it works for a lot of people and it should be miles easier for me now
Keep going all you will get there at some point
