Newb and lurker here. I've just requested the book from the library - they don't have it. The young librarian who filled out the form and explained it wasn't his decision whether it was bought in or not, said he could also do with having a read at it!
Fingers crossed they get in it because I just can't afford to buy it right now.0 -

A while back I decided to embrace the grey and was cultivating a bit of a Mallen Streak (That probably shows my age more than the grey hair).
After a couple of weeks my OH commented that it made me look old. Well,as I love him and valued his opinion I told him to get stuffed
A couple of months later , whilst visiting my Sister , my Brother- in- law after a few drinks points at my hair and tells me “You need to sort that out”:eek:
I have to admit I was so shocked that I caved in and dyed it again.
It should be mentioned that both gentlemen have a substantial amount of grey hair.
I don't often post but the grey hair thing really gets me going!
I have enjoyed grey for many years, have no feeling that it makes me look old - for heaven's sake I am! And - to recount a story I have told before - when I lived in France I was asked one day by a very chic - and much younger - French woman where I got my hair dyed. I said I didn't - it was natural. She was somewhat disappointed at that.
I think it is much more important that my hair looks in excellent condition - I don't use any conditioner or spray or anything chemical - and haven't for many years. Just a good cut and wash once a week with a little use of a hot brush.
Be proud of the grey and ignore the hypocritical men - or women - who try to put you down!0 -

I was whooping for joy, until I read the next bit!
Luckily, I don't have the DH or BIL problem - I've kondoed 2 husbands, one of whom is a very subtle control-freak.
If a grey-haired man implied that I should dye mine, I'd tell him to expletive dye his own! :mad:Needs, NOT wants!

It's not a thick skin Judi - it is feeling happy with yourself and to hell with anyone who tries to put you down. If they need to do that they are invariably unhappy with themselves an try to derive some sort of pleasure in thinking they can make other people feel like they do - sad really.0 -
Well said, in both your posts, littleowl!

Your library can order an inter-library loan. (Hooray!) But, other libraries may still have waiting lists. (Boo!)Needs, NOT wants!

I'm :eek: at some of these grey hair comments from men - how dare they!!! I'm not at that point in my life yet, but this is sexist and ageist and just plain nasty. Grey hair is a crown of wisdom, anyhow
Busy busy today, but managed to get some stuff I had already kondoed out of the house - 2 boxes of books, and a big bag of clothes to charity. Returned some bits I had borrowed to a relative too.
Am also excited because suddenly, after years of struggling with it, I seem to be able to keep on top of the laundry. Before I would wash it, dry it, and then it would lie in a clear but crumpled heap for days (weeks:o). Now I wash it, dry it, and FOLD IT AND PUT IT AWAY. This has lasted since I read the book - nearly 3 weeks - so I'm hoping I'll keep it up! I think it's because folding and putting away in the beautiful tidy un-squashed drawers is a joy rather than a chore.0 -
CKgeordie that made me :rotfl:
Sorry ladies I seem to have started a furore with the grey hair
Thing is, I was spending time and money every 6 weeks on something that wasn't giving me joy (having it dyed) so I kondoed it. I might find, once all the colour has grown out and been chopped off, that I don't like the grey either. In which case I'll dye it again. But that will be my decision, and OH will have to put up with that. After all, it's only hair!
Thanks all for your thoughts

As am having a quiet day today due to feeling ill (don't do paid work on Fridays, normally go to the allotment), I thought I'd get to grips with the dreaded paperw*rk.
I've had the folders and the mag holders down off the top of my wall unit, vac'd the cobwebs behind them, although it's not many months since that was last done, then damp-dusted the top.
I have done the worst of the paperwork first, which was to organise the pension stuff. I'd been slinging it all in together, but have now divided it into pension statements, stuff relating to a former pension which was brought into this one, and general leaflets and general correspondence. These sub-categories all sit neatly in a mag holder labelled Pensions, so any new stuff of this nature can quickly be homed.
You'll be delighted to hear that the current prediction of one of these 'gold plated local government pensions' is a £27 per week payout. Be still, my beating heart...............:rotfl:
Still got some more to sort out, but need to relax on the interwebs for a while first, paperwork is a hard category, isn't it?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Well, the hair discussion has set me thinking. I really object to those sort of comments as they are so sexist and can make some women feel insecure at an awkward time for us.
Because I have (thanks to MK) retuned to 'happy mode' I am considering having my long hair cut off. I've proved a point: it is possible for some older women to grow their hair long!Trouble is it, it makes hoovering a harder job!
If I go ahead, I may splash out and have blonde highlights, because these are easier for me to manage myself, they make the grey more interesting, and look less obvious as they grow out.
As I went to bed, late last night (convinced that we were heading for a rather interesting political bun-fight today - how wrong I was! :eek: ) I decided to say thank you to the things that had made my day so uplifting...
My new Happiness:
My still messy home;
My warm bed;
MK;
The late burst of sunshine;
The little unidentified bird's, peep-peeping, which had been constant through the day, in my unkondoed garden;
The lovely home-made chicken stew and dumplings for dinner;
The tiny twinkly star that had found its way onto the carpet next to my bed...
Then I fell asleep, and slept for 8 hours! :happyhearNeeds, NOT wants!
